Police arrested newlyweds after killing a man for a thrill. A Pennsylvania couple who had just been married three weeks carried out a murder by luring a man with a Craigslist advertisement. The couple had planned to kill in the past, but had been unsuccessful at finding a victim until now.

Elytte and Miranda Barbour ages 22 and 18 killed 42-year-old Troy LaFerrara on November 11. Miranda had used Craigslist in the past to make money by offering non-sexual companionship for men. They used an ad promising companionship for money to arrange a meeting with Miranda.

Barbour drove to a mall on November 11 with her husband hiding under a blanket in the backseat of their SUV. On Miranda’s signal Elytte wrapped a cord around the victim’s neck while she proceeded to stab him 20 times.

Troy LaFerrara’s body was discovered November 12 in an alley of a small town located approximately 100 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The couple had recently moved to Selinsgrove, a town nearby.

Miranda and Elytte both face criminal homicide charges but Miranda was charged Wednesday and continually changed her story about the murder. Miranda admitted to meeting the man in Selinsgrove and then driving him to Sunbury. After parking, Miranda claimed that the victim groped her and she then grabbed a knife from between the seats, but only after the man put his hand around her throat.

She told police that after killing LaFerrara, she went to purchase cleaning supplies to wash blood out of the car and then picked up her husband. She then took her husband to a strip club to celebrate his 22nd birthday.

According to Elytte Barbour it was he who bought the cleaning products, which was verified with surveillance footage from the department store. Police ended up arresting the newlyweds after it became clear that both husband and wife took part in the murder.

Barbour said that he supported the “companionship” services his wife offered because there was no sex involved. She kept ads on several websites as a business venture that would earn her between $50 and $850 for casual social activities with men. Barbour also told police “She is not a prostitute. What she does is meet men who have broken marriages or have no one in their lives and she meets with them and has delightful conversation.”

Police are investigating the possibility of other victims particularly the deceased father of Miranda’s 18-month-old child. The couple had been living in North Carolina prior to moving to Pennsylvania.

Elytte Barbour told The Daily Item that his wife was not a “cold killer” but that he knew nothing about what his wife did until she surrendered to state police Tuesday morning.

Initially, Miranda claimed to be alone, but her story evolved with further questioning. Her husband was arrested Friday night.

When Elytte walked into the courtroom he shrugged his shoulders and smiled at reporters. He is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, criminal conspiracy, and possession of instruments of crime. He was able to tell police the location of the stab wounds on LaFerrara’s body and where they had dumped the victim.

Since police arrested the newlyweds Elytte has been sent to Columbia County Prison and his wife to Northumberland County Prison. Each are being held without bail.
