When we were kids we read stories and watched movies where the characters lived happily ever after, but in the world of entertainment the term “happily ever after” does not exist. Celebrities get together and quickly fall apart. Some couples last longer than others but eventually crumble. The latest couple to enter spiltsville is former Lizzie Mcguire star Hilary Duff and her former NHL star husband, Michael Comrie. The couple decided to call it quits after three years of marriage. The couple married in Santa Barbara, California on August 2010. Comrie and Duff are parents to their 21- month-old son Luca Cruz.
According to NY Daily News a rep stated that the two have decided mutually on an amicable separation,” a rep for the actress. The rep also states “They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other’s lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time.”
Some celebrity couples in entertainment have had a bitter spilt. Take Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen for example. In 2011 they got divorced and during that time Sheen called Richards a traitor. In Comrie and Duff’s case according to a source that told People magazine. “There was no major incident – no big event between the two of them. They really did drift apart.” The source also stated “In the end, they realized at this time, they work better as friends.”
During a 2009 interview, Duff had nothing but praises when talking about Comrie. “He’s generous, caring and sunny. We just laugh our heads off.” She also made comments on Comrie being a father to his son. “He’s so patient and loving and involved. He’s all the things that I knew that he would be.”
So, how did a Disney star and a Pittsburg Penguins hockey player cross paths? According to People Magazine they first met when they both visited a resort in Idaho and began dating in 2009. The magazine also mentions that Comrie proposed in Hawaii during their romantic getaway.
In a blink of an eye celebrity relationships come and go. Which celebrity couple had the shortest lasting relationship? According to Marie Claire in 1919 the marriage between two actors Rudolph Valentino and Jean Acker only lasted six hours. The magazine states Acker quickly regretted the decision and locked him out of their honeymoon suite. The quick flush of love may be nothing more than a moment to escape for what is known or even unknown.
Love is amazing, but this evidence proves that it may not last forever, especially in the entertainment industry. Actors and musicians fall fast in love and fall even faster out of love. It seems to be a reoccurring standard when living under the lens of cameras. Duff and Comrie gave no indication of ill-strife during their marriage. Here’s hoping they maintain their parental solidarity to raise their son and continually avoid waves. Some of us can not wait to see who hooks-up and who breaks up. What do you think? Which celebrity couple will be next on the chopping block?
