The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has made the decision to expel Reverends James J. Collins and John P. Paul from the ministry after investigation into 40-year-old accusations of the two men sexually abusing minors. The two men were placed on leave in 2013, Collins in May and Paul in December.
According to Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, there were separate investigations conducted and neither of the men held to the ministry’s standards. However, after the district attorney reviewed the case, the decision was made that no charges will be pressed against them.
The reverends have an opportunity to appeal to the Vatican, but if they choose not to do so they will be removed from the Catholic Church.
