After news broke about Robin Thicke and wife Paula Patton’s split, the Blurred Lines singer is hoping to work toward a reconciliation. The pair announced their breakup Monday after eight years of marriage. “I’m just trying to get her back, man,” Thicke told TMZ.
Following the news of their split, Thicke and Patton issued out a mutual statement, stating that even though they still loved each, they had decided to mutually separate. However, sources have said the decision to stay together or break up was ultimately up to Patton. Thicke met the Jumping the Broom actress at the age of 14. The lovebirds first laid eyes on each other at an under-21 club on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. They began dating at 16 and married in 2005. They have one son together, Julian Fuego Thicke, born Apr. 6, 2010.
The couple’s relationship was once before in the spotlight after a cheating scandal surfaced. In 2013, 20-year-old Lana Scolaro accused Thicke of cheating on his wife with her. “I don’t think he cared what she thought. I was with him the whole night!” she told Life & Style.
The 36-year-old was also spotted with an unidentified woman at Club 79 in Paris Sat, Jan. 18 after a show at the Parisian hotspot. Patton was not in attendance. The two were photographed together several times. In one photo, the woman seemed to be touching his cheek as she whispered something in his ear. In another, the woman wraps her arms around Thicke as they hit the dance floor.
In hopes of reconciling with his wife, Thicke has canceled multiple shows in order to spend more time working on their relationship. He took to his website to thank his fans for their understanding and support. “I want to thank everyone for the well wishes these last few days. My fans mean everything to me,” he wrote.
Thicke was in the spotlight for his controversial music video for Blurred Lines. The singer was surrounded by dancing, nude models throughout the video. However, the performance didn’t seem to shake the Baggage Claim actress. “I watched that video and I was a little bit jealous and then I wanted to jump his bones. I was like, ‘I want to take you down right now.’ That’s how I know it’s a hit,” Patton said in an interview.
The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards performance with Miley Cyrus also caused a stir with critics. Many fans thought Patton would be appalled with Cyrus for grinding all over her husband, but instead, she chose to express her support. During a sit-down with E! News, Patton said Thicke’s actions on stage didn’t affect their relationship in the least.
The couple was last photographed together at this year’s Grammy Awards Jan. 26. The two seemed to be in good spirits, and even exchanged a few kisses on the red carpet. Patton has been all smiles since the news of their separation first broke. The split up didn’t come as a surprise, but hopefully, Thicke and his wife can work toward a reconciliation soon.
