Paul Walker Back In the Public Eye

Paul Walker is back in the public eye after a petition was filed by his mother Cheryl Ann so that she can become the legal guardian of her granddaughter, Meadow Rain. The 15-year-old daughter of the late actor has been staying with her grandmother since August 2012 and is currently living with both Cheryl Ann and her mother Rebecca Jo Soteros. Meadow inherited the actor’s $16 million estate and Cheryl Ann believes that the teenager needs extra protection, especially since the Fast and Furious star wanted his daughter to live with his mother.

A temporary guardianship hearing with regard to Paul Walker’s daughter is scheduled on March 27 and the permanent custody will be pronounced on April 30, which brought the actor’s name back into the public eye. Court documents specify that the late actor stated in his will that his desire was to leave his daughter in the custody of his mother, but the petition does not explain whether the child’s mother has accepted the terms and wishes to grant custody to Cheryl Ann Walker. The legal request also mentions that since Meadow will inherit a large sum of money,  Cheryl Ann should “be appointed as the guardian of the person and of the estate.”

Troubled Parent

In a petition filed on March 18, the Fast and Furious star’s mother stated that the 15-year-old’s mother “has a drinking problem,” which is why “parental custody would be detrimental to the minor.”

Meadow grew up with her mother in Hawaii, but moved with her grandmother in August 2012 and then lived a year with Walker. The girl continues to live with Cheryl Ann, but her mother, Rebecca, joined them. While Soteros is depicted in the petition as a person with a drinking problem, the girl’s grandmother is portrayed as a “loving and responsible person.” Cheryl Ann’s advantage, apart from her son’s will in which he stated that his daughter should stay with her grandmother, is that she is a registered nurse and she raised all of her four children.

According to the actor’s will, his father is the executor of his estate, but if, for certain reasons, he cannot or he does not want to fulfill this role, his mother becomes the personal representative of the estate. In light of the petition and the upcoming guardianship, Paul Walker’s name is back into the public until April 30, when the permanent custody will be offered either to the star’s mother or to Soteros.

No Sign of Pilchard-Gosnell

Before the tragic accident, which abruptly ended the life of the Fast and Furious star, he had been in a relationship with Jasmine Pilchard-Gosnell for seven years. Reports show that the actor’s girlfriend almost collapsed when she heard about Walker’s death and still struggles to cope with his demise. However, she tries to be strong for the 15-year-old girl, since sources say that the couple had serious plans which included starting a family of their own.

Pilchard-Gosnell has not been included in the will and none of the current issues involve her, although she took the role of stepmother to the star’s daughter.

Even if Paul Walker is back into the public eye, the permanent custody hearing is scheduled until April 30, 2014. Perhaps following this event his family will be able to carry on with their lives.
