Batman v Superman Started Filming in Detroit

Warner Bros. Pictures have announced that Batman v Superman has started filming in Detroit. The film, titled The Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill, who is once again playing Superman, Ben Affleck will fill the cape of Batman and Jesse Eisenberg is to be the bad and bald Lex Luthor.

The studio also confirmed the new title along with casting information stating that Gal Gadot will be appearing as Wonder Woman, Jeremy Irons will be replacing Michael Caine as Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s butler and confidant. Holly Hunter will be appearing
in an, as yet, un-named role created for her.

Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams and Diane Lane are returning from the 2013 Man of Steel film to reprise their roles. Zack Snyder is directing.

This latest superhero “crossover” film has been plagued with fan’s petitioning the studios to replace Ben Affleck as Batman since the announcement was made in the late summer of 2013. Twitter exploded with fan’s of Christopher Nolan’s bleaker choice of Christian Bale as the Dark Knight tweeting their dismay at Snyder’s, and the studio’s, choice of the Argo star.

There was almost as much of an outcry when it was announced that Jesse Eisenberg would be playing super villain Lex Luthor. Back when Christopher Reeve was playing Superman, film heavyweight Gene Hackman, complete with bald head, played the “heavyweight” nemesis of the superhero.

The star of Zombieland and The Social Network has made a career out of playing bumbling, social inepts whom the audience get behind. The idea that he could play the arch villain and number one enemy of the man from Krypton did not fit into fan’s ideas of the perfect foil for Superman. With the news that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has started filming in Detroit, the fan’s displeasure at the casting choices has pretty much become a moot point.

Zack Snyder directed the first of the Superman film remakes and with his resume consisting of 300, Dawn of the Dead and Sucker Punch, to name a few, the 48 year-old director, producer and screenwriter has made an impressive name for himself in action and science fiction films. Although there were many who did not particularly care for the direction that Snyder took the first Superman film, his version looked spectacular.

The Batman v Superman film is said to be a pre-runner, or origin film, for the upcoming, and as yet untitled, Justice League movie. Snyder has been signed up to direct this film and apparently the vast majority of the cast from this latest superhero movie will reprise their roles.

While filming has reportedly commenced in Detroit, Michigan there are quite a number of other filming locations in the United States that will include several areas in Illinois. Outside the U.S., the South Pacific and Africa will also be used as locations for the movie.

Since the initial backlash from fans upset at the choice of Affleck as the caped crusader, there have been many who have supported the decision. The Avengers director Joss Whedon gave the actor his vote of support saying that Affleck had the “chops” to pull it off.

Zack Snyder also went to bat for Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Time has allowed fans to come to terms with the choices that were made in casting. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has started filming in Detroit so unless something disastrous happens, the cast is now pretty much set in stone. The film is set to premiere on May 6, 2016.
