Beyonce and Jay Z ‘Run’ Trailer

Beyonce and Jay Z

Beyonce and husband Jay Z surprised fans, Saturday, May 17, 2014 when they released their movie style trailer Run, for the coming tour, On The Run. Few are able to pull off the things that Mr. and Mrs. Carter seems to effortlessly achieve and once again the pair proves why they are the king and queen of Hip Hop. Directed by Melina Matsoukas, (Pretty Hurts video), the almost four-minute trailer was star-studded with cameos by Sean Penn (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Gangster Squad), Jake Gyllenhaal, Don Cheadle, Blake Lively, Guillermo Diaz, Emmy Rossum, Rashida Jones and Kidada Jones.

The stunning trailer is packed with car crashes, gunfire and explosions, no doubt costing more than most independent film releases. Cosmopolitan stated that the trailer was “pretty much the greatest three minutes of cinema ever committed to YouTube.” Beyonce and Jay Z are no strangers to playing a criminal couple, coming together back in 2003 with the 03 Bonnie and Clyde video, which inevitably lead to their relationship. It looks like the Run trailer is a continuation of the successful 03 Bonnie and Clyde video, playing stylish outlaws, in the opening scene Jay Z realizes that he should have listened to Sean Penn’s character from the 2003 video.

In the 03 Bonnie and Clyde video Jay Z plays a small time gangster who decided to take his love interested, played by Beyonce on the journey to raise his status in the criminal world. This is where fans first see Mr. Carter under the guidance of Sean Penn, playing a big time gangster. The opening of the trailer sees Jay Z sitting with Sean Penn as they discuss the conversation from a past meeting. Throughout the Run trailer Beyonce and Jay Z realizes that they are in a lot of trouble after deciding to rob a bank. Not only trying to avoid the cops, but also stay out of the sights of even bigger and meaner gangsters.

In the under four-minute trailers fans see their dark world at its glamorous moments and at its more dangerous moments, with Beyoncé running from a cop played by Emmy Rossum (Shameless, Beautiful Creatures) or bloodied and bruised. To the couple also having to contend with shady characters like the obviously unstable criminal played by Jake Gyllenhaal (Prisoners) or the anger crime boss played by Guillermo Diaz (Scandal). Blake Lively (Savages, Gossip Girl) portrays the concern best friend of Beyoncé, while Don Cheadle (House of Lies, Iron Man 3) in a heated game of poker with Jay Z is undecided friend or foe. Sister Rashida and Kidada Jones, daughters of music mogul Quincy Jones, accompany Mrs. Carter in an obvious police lineup towards the end.

Set to the music of Part II (On The Run) featuring the pair and F**k With Me You Know I Got It, featuring Rick Ross. Although, the masterpiece will not be coming to theaters anytime soon, the couple definitely could pull over a feature film if they were planning to. With the trailer ending with the word, “Coming Never,” fans never know, especially since the Beyonce and Jay Z love surprises. With their upcoming concert predicted to do extremely well the King and Queen could be making their movie debut together soon. But for now fans will just have to enjoy the Run trailer with the talented Beyonce and Jay Z better known as Mr. and Mrs. Carter.
