Casey Kasem Disappearance Raises Concern About Elder Abuse

Casey KasemCasey Kasem, the voice of radio, was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease last year, and the disappearance of the 82-year-old raises concerns that he may be the victim of elder abuse. It appears his wife has moved him out of Los Angels without telling anyone, and now his kids are demanding to know where he is. Last Monday conservatorship was given to Kasem’s daughter temporarily, and is in place until June 20, 2014, when a hearing will be held to determine if it will become permanent. Also on Monday another judge ordered that an investigation is to be launched into finding out where the legendary star is. The children decided to take action when they found they were unable to see their father, which is an agreement they had with their step mother. Kerri Kasem has since received conservatorship and made her fathers caregiver. This same petition was denied last year when Julie Kasem and her husband petitioned the court, stating that their father was being kept from his daughters, and was being isolated from friends as well. This time they won, however now their father is missing. Kerri’s attorney stated that the family thinks he has been removed from Los Angels and placed in an Indian reservation somewhere in Washington state.

The fighting within the family of Casey Kasem raises the chilling concern of elder abuse, according to the children, and his disappearance only reinforces this. Mickey Rooney who passed away last month, also accused his step son of refusing him his food and medicine. Unfortunately with the progression of the disease Kasem is unable to say whether abuse is a part of this scenario or not. A judge has ordered that the radio Disk Jockey (DJ) be located by adult protective services. During the court proceedings Kasem’s wife Jean, represented by her lawyer, Craig Marcus, stated that she has the right to do whatever she wants with her husband. He also said that he did not know where he was however, he believes he is no longer in the United States.

Kasem’s daughter believes that her step mother fled the country with her father, knowing she was going to win in court. Her Facebook page reveals her thoughts, and asks for prayers for her father’s safety. Her attorney stated that the family was concerned about his well-being as well as his safety. Casey Kasem going missing has shocked his fans, and none more than those from his hometown of Detroit Michigan. He was known for his voice work and radio show, American Top 40. He was also the voice of the lovable Shaggy in the Scooby Doo cartoon series, and also had some lesser known comedic talent.

Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia that gets worse over time, and affects the person’s behavior and how they think, and slowly takes away their memory. It progresses differently in each person and symptoms can include being confused in familiar places, and having difficulty doing simple tasks that require multiple steps, such as getting dressed. The disappearance of Casey Kasem and the removal from family and friends at a time when he is not able to speak for himself , is making the family wonder if going missing is just the beginning of their problems, and if they should be concerned that their elderly father is being abused.

You start your article with Mr. Kasem having Parkinson’s disease and end it with Alzheimer’s. These are different health problems. Which is it, Parkinson’s or Alzheimers.
