For those out there who are fans of that classic slice of life television show Boy Meets World, the announcement you have been waiting for is finally here. Girl Meets World, The spin-off series to the popular Disney Channel show from the 90s has had its premier dated for June 27.
Fans will remember the story centered around Cory Matthews, a young boy in middle school who was doing his best just to live his life and have a good time along the road. When Cory meets Topanga Lawrence, the two do not see eye to eye for quite some time. Only through an entire series (pun intended) of ups and downs and drama all around do they finally decide to be together and later on get married. Boy Meets World had a respectable seven season run on the ABC from 1993 to 2000. It now has reruns being shown regularly on ABC Family.
The next generation show, Girl Meets World, will tell the story from the point of Cory and Topanga’s 13-year-old daughter, Riley Matthews, as she starts her journey through life in the halls of her middle school, where her father is the history teacher. Just the same as how Cory had his best friend Shawn, Riley will go through her journey with her friend Maya. At home, Riley deals with her mother and her father, as well as her little brother Auggie Matthews.
The Girl Meets World cast is filled with some great new faces and it also features a lot of old faces from its predecessor. The Matthews family will feature Ben Savage making his return as an adult Cory Matthews, Danielle Fishel will resume her role as Cory’s wife Topanga, and Rider Strong will keep his role as Cory’s best friend Shawn Hunter. Other faces that will be returning to people’s television screens are William Daniels as Mr. Feeney, Lee Norris as Minkus, and the actors who portrayed Cory Matthews’ dad and mom, William Russ and Betsy Randle. Riley will be portrayed by Rowan Blanchard and her little brother Auggie is being played by August Maturo. All of the old stars that came together to make a great show in the 90s will reunite once again in order help make a new show become just as good or maybe even better. Fans will be hit with multiple cases of heavy nostalgia when Girl Meets World make its way to television set all over on June 27.
The new show’s pilot episode is scheduled to make its television debut at 9:45 pm on June 27. This time slot is only temporary. After the initial airing, Girl Meets World will take its regular spot in the Disney channel lineup at 8:30 pm on July 11. Prior to the premier of the new spin off show, there will be a Boy Meets World marathon airing on the Disney Channel on May 15 to help get the fans jazzed for the television premier of the new show, where they will be able to see all of their favorite cast members from the old show in a more mature way than how they were featured back in the 1990s. Stay tuned to the Disney channel and don’t be the one that misses the return of the most iconic couples to ever grace television airwaves.
