Jennifer Lopez and Maksim Chmerkovskiy Might Be a Couple

Entertainer Jennifer Lopez does seem to move along from her relationships quite fast. Her two-year romantic connection to dancer Casper Smart has just ended, but rumors persist that she is now seeing Russian heartthrob, Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Tabloids have published pictures of the two canoodling in a nightclub, expressing that things are growing hot and heavy between them. Although proof of their relationship seems to be growing daily, both have somewhat denied it.

On Tuesday, TMZ cameras caught up with Chmerkovskiy in New York City. The 34-year-old professional dancer, best known from his stint on Dancing with the Stars, was asked outright about the pictures that have been making the rounds on the internet. In one of the images, he and Lopez, 44, are seen dancing very closely at a nightclub located in Connecticut. He jokingly replied that the owner of TMZ, Harvey Levin, knew the truth about the relationship between him and Lopez.

“It’s going good,” he said of their connection, without implicitly expressing whether it was platonic or romantic. When asked if Lopez was “the one,” Chmerkovskiy simply laughed off the question.

Just last week, Lopez appeared on The Wendy Williams Show to promote her latest album, A.K.A. She was asked whether she was single, with Williams clearly stating that she meant it, in a way, that expressed if Lopez was “intimate with anybody at this time.” Lopez responded assuredly that she was single.

“I have been for a couple of months.” It was the first time the public learned that she and Smart, 27, had split up long before the statement was released. She also admitted that she feels more comfortable when she is in a relationship.

“Love to me is like… the healing energy of the world,” she said. “It’s something to me that I always cherish. It’s so important to me.”

Both Lopez and Chmerkovskiy have been in other notable relationships. Before she began dating Smart, Lopez was married to Latin crooner Marc Anthony for almost eight years, beginning back in 2004. She and Anthony also have two children from their union. They separated in July of 2011, with the divorce being finalized just last week.

Chmerkovskiy was previously engaged to another Dancing with the Stars professional, Karina Smirnoff. Following their split in 2013, he began dating supermodel Kate Upton. That relationship ended before the start of the New Year although sources claim that they attempted to reconcile in mid-2014.

The romantic relationship between Jennifer Lopez and Maksim Chmerkovskiy might be a rumor, but their separate professional lives are heating up. On Monday, it was confirmed that Lopez will be returning to the judges’ panel on American Idol for its upcoming 14th season. Fellow judges, singers Harry Connick, Jr. and Keith Urban, will also be coming back. The new season airs in January of 2015.

As for Chmerkovskiy, he recently completed a run as a guest judge for the Indian version of Dancing with the Stars. There is still no definitive statement on Chmerkovskiy returning to the American version of the show that made him famous. He teased back in May that he might not be participating for the new season following his big win in early 2014. In an interesting connection, both Lopez and Chmerkovskiy have performed together in the past, most recently during the 2013 American Music Awards.
