On Tuesday night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy’s guests were the fantastic comedian and actor Tyler Perry and actor Miles Teller! His musical guest was the amazing singer, Lucinda Williams. Also, Jimmy Fallon challenged Tyler Perry to a game in which they raced jumping drones. Who won? Read on to find out!
Jimmy Fallon welcomed his audience to the Tonight Show and then went right into his monologue. “Two weeks after the White House fence jumper entered in to the White House, there are stories out that he made it all the way to the East Room. Biden said ‘I never made it even as far as the umbrella stand.'”
“You know those e-cigarettes?” Fallon asked the audience. “Tobacco companies have now put warnings on them that say the nicotine in them is dangerous.” Then, he mentioned other, joke warnings that supposedly are on e-cigarettes.
“Hashtag the Panda made a guest appearance on Dancing With the Stars,” Fallon said. The judges all had very complimentary things to say about him. Len called him “77” though.
“The FDA has begun warning consumers against supplements they order by the mail,” he said, using sound effects like a slide whistle sound.
“Before we get started, we have a big announcement. We’re going to Phoenix, Arizona and will do a live show following the Super Bowl, and then — we’re going to spend a week in Los Angeles, everybody! We’re taking it there again, for the first time,” Fallon said.
“For the first time now,” announcer Steve Higgins said. Jennifer Garner will be on Wednesday and Derek Jeter on Thursday, with music from 5 Seconds of Summer.
“He gives a fantastic performance in Gone Girl, Tyler Perry is here! We’re going to race jumping drones. Actor Miles Terry will be here — and our musical guest is Lucinda Perry.”
“Tonight we’re taking a look at the Pros & Cons of being a Nude Art Model. Pro: Getting a standing ovation at the end of the class. Con: When you’re putting your robe back on.”
“Pro: Showing up and taking off all your clothes. Con: Apologizing to the English 101 class you took your clothes off in front of.”
The first guest of the evening on the Tonight Show was Tyler Perry. Jimmy Fallon said “Please welcome one of our favorites, Tyler Perry, ladies and gentlemen!”
“I request bigger chairs for bigger guys. I need a lawn chair,” Tyler said.
“I heard great news. Is this true? You’re expecting a baby?”
“Yeah, yeah. It’s great,” Tyler said. Fallon recommended that he gets an app that tell him how big the baby is at different days of development.
Perry told Fallon “You gotta read, man!”
“We both celebrated a birthday recently, didn’t we?” Jimmy Fallon asked him. “I turned 40 and you turned 45.”
Perry related to Jimmy Fallon that Stevie Wonder sang at his birthday party, and Fallon said he sang for him on the Tonight Show, also.
“It’s so great, I don’t know how the hell I got in it!” Tyler said about Gone Girl.
“Affleck said you out-Cochrane Johnny Cochrane,” Fallon said.
At one point in the conversation, Tyler Perry was taking about “nuance” in the movie. Fallon asked him about knowing about nuances, and he said, in Medea’s voice, “Hell, no; I don’t know nuances!”
Tyler Perry plays Affleck’s lawyer in Gone Girl.
“Every time you’re on the show, you know I like to challenge you to games,” Fallon said. He held up a photo of Tyler standing by a huge airplane that he flew by remote control When they get back from a break, they will be both racing jumping drones.
After a commercial break, Jimmy Fallon said “Today, we’re going to use these iPads and race jumping drones.” Fallon told Perry the complicated course, and they got ready to race. Tyler got his jumping drone to jump through a hoop and go through a tunnel for faster than Jimmy was able to do. Tyler finished the race long before Fallon, who actually did not finish at all. He gave up, knowing when he was beaten.
After another commercial break, Jimmy Fallon welcomed his second guest to the Tonight Show, actor Miles Teller. He has been in movies like Now and Divergent. “It’s wonderful to see you again!” Fallon said.
“I want to ask you — you remember your first audition?” Jimmy asked Teller.
“Yeah, I do — oh, my mom asked me to tell you ‘Happy Birthday.’ My first audition was for the play ‘Little Red Riding Hood.’ The only part for a guy was the wolf. I lost out to my cousin. I didn’t come watch it,” Miles Teller said.
“Things have gone well for you, though,” Jimmy said. “You were in Divergent –“
“Yes — the first time I was on was when I was That Awkward Moment.”
“In Whiplash, you play a young drummer. That has to be really you playing,” Fallon said.
“Yes, it was. You have a picture right there?” he asked, as Fallon held up a photo of a young Miles at a drum set.
“My house was always like a sort of controlled chaos. I think my mother wanted a kind of Partridge Family,” Miles said.
“I watched this film and I couldn’t believe it,” Fallon asked, wondering if a stunt double had been used for the drum playing scenes; but, no, Miles played them.
“I was mesmorized by the whole film,” Fallon said. He mentioned that the teacher “gets right up in your face and curses at you, yells at you.’
“It’s kind of like Full Metal Jacket at Julliard,” Miles said. “People want that instant gratification. The guy who plays the teacher in the movie says that ‘Good job’ are two of the most harmful words in the English language.”
Then, Jimmy Fallon played a video clip from Whiplash. Miles jammed out on the drums. Fallon asked him “Would you mind playing some for us with The Roots?” Miles agreed, and he went over to play. He was really, really good!
When The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon came back from another commercial break, Jimmy Fallon introduced his musical guest Lucinda Williams. Lucinda wore a black leather jacket and sang the song Protection. She sounded terrific and the electric guitar players were jammin’ out. The Roots also joined in. After she was done singing, Jimmy Fallon walked over with her album and held it up for the audience and cameras to see.
Except for thanking all of his guests, that marked the conclusion of the Tonight Show. It had a great line-up of guests, like Tyler Perry from the Madea franchise and Gone Girl; actor Miles Teller from Whiplash; and, Jimmy Fallon’s musical guest, Lucinda Williams. Check out tomorrow night’s show when the fun continues with Fallon and his guests, like Ben Affleck’s wife, the fantastic actress, Jennifer Garner!
