Vanessa Williams has become engaged to accountant Jim Skrip, whom she has been in a relationship with for almost two years. The actress revealed her big news during an interview with Queen Latifah, in an episode that will be aired this coming Tuesday.
The announcement was made following a joke Latifah made concerning the brightness of the diamond located on the former Miss America’s ring finger, of which she quipped was blinding and distracted her from asking questions. Williams wasted no time in admitting that she was, in fact, engaged. She told the talk show host that the proposal had happened a few weeks prior to the interview, gushing that she had been on the receiving end of many blessings in the past while. The actress is currently touring the country for the Broadway revival of A Trip to Bountiful, in which she plays main character Jessie Mae Watts. Although she and Skrip were both born in the United States, they met while Williams was on vacation in Egypt with her daughter. Back in February, she gave the comment that sometimes people must travel across the world to find that one person, even if that person only lives six hours away from you in reality. The comment was referring to the fact that the couple are not only from the same country to begin with, but the same state; Williams was born in Millwood, New York and Skrip in Buffalo. The comment marked one of the rare times that the actress spoke of her new romance, which she had been keeping exclusively under wraps since it began in order to maintain both individuals privacy and keep the media attention at bay.
If the planned nuptials go forward as planned, this will be the 51-year-old’s third marriage. Her first took place from 1987-1997, when she was married to former manager Ramon Harvey. The pair have three children together–Jillian Hervey, Devin Hervey, and Melanie Hervey. Their oldest daughter has earned a name of her own in the entertainment industry, having released a single with popular musical duo Lion Babe. The track was released in 2012. The New York native’s second husband was former professional basketball player and Canadian television personality Rick Fox, whom she was married to from 1999-2004. She has one child with Fox, a girl named Sasha Gabriella.
Williams being set to marry an accountant is said to be slightly ironic by some, due to her previous run-in with the federal government in terms of tax problems. Just last month, the Lost Without You singer made media headlines when The Smoking Gun website reported that the IRS was demanding she pay her dues of nearly $370,000, which was reportedly accumulated in unpaid taxes since her 2011 tax return. The situation reportedly has yet to be resolved, and the former Desperate Housewives star has not given any public statement regarding the matter.
It remains to be seen whether or not Vanessa Williams will become a bride for the third time after becoming engaged to boyfriend Jim Skrip. Although the actress remains adamant that this is the man for her and that she sees this marriage as being the one to stay permanent, only time will tell. The pair have yet to announce a date for the wedding.
