Rob Ford Era Done as John Tory Elected Mayor of Toronto

Rob Ford

Rob Ford has seen his mayoral era come to an end after four years, as John Tory was elected mayor of Toronto by promising to build consensus and restore functionality to the city after Ford’s tumultuous tenure. The former mayor has admitted to widespread drug use, as well as a number of other questionable activities while in office.

John Tory, who is a former businessman and Canadian TV personality, defeated Ford’s older brother, Doug, who stepped into the mayoral race after his brother was diagnosed with cancer.

Tory’s victory brings an end to the turmoil under the scandal-plagued former mayor, whose admission of drug use, allegations of public drunkenness, and a stint in rehab made him worldwide fodder for late-night talk shows and cast an awkward spotlight on Canada’s largest city.
