‘Sons of Anarchy’: Cat Is Out of the Bag [Review]

Sons of Anarchy
Sons of Anarchy continued its final season swan song on FX with another tense episode that aired Tuesday, October 21, entitled “Greensleeves,” which was Episode 7 of Season 7 of the critically acclaimed but award anemic drama series. There is much left to be resolved before Sons of Anarchy takes its final bow. However, this episode definitely made inroads into the unresolved issues that will soon be revealed. The cat is officially out of the bag in terms of the biggest secret left to tell in the town of Charming. However, the story is far from over as the Sons of Anarchy races toward its final conclusion.

At the end of last week’s episode, loyal SAMCRO member, Theo Rossi’s Juice, found himself facing the consequences and his fate appeared sealed. However, it turns out Juice was able to strike a deal with Jax to be restored to the club’s good graces. Meanwhile, Gemma Teller Morrow, who is played by Katey Sagal of Married With Children fame, found herself facing the potential consequences of her actions (i.e. murdering her daughter-in-law with a carving fork!) and the toll it has taken cannot be escaped.

Gemma feared for her life in this episode as it was discovered that Juice is still alive, but jailed after shooting at police and engaging in a high-speed chase. Juice is the only one who knows the truth about Gemma’s deeds and Tara’s murder, at least he was until this episode. Turns out, it was all part of a plan concocted by Jax (Charlie Hunnam) and Juice to get the fugitive biker locked up in prison, so he can exact revenge on Henry Lin (Kenneth Choi), whom Jax still believes murdered Maggie Siff’s Tara. Jax is still under this mistaken impression, however, because Juice has kept Gemma’s tragic secret, even in the face of death.

As the cat is now out of the bag on Sons of Anarchy, Gemma made preparations to meet her maker as she feared the inevitable confrontation that would occur once Jax learned the truth. When Jax sent two MC members to collect Gemma and escort her to the cabin in the woods, she was sure that the big bad wolf would be there to greet her. Imagine her relief when she learned that Jax and the MC needed her help with a “family matter” that involved detoxing a strung out mother and witness to wrongdoings that could benefit the club. However, before leaving for the cabin, the tormented grandmother broke down and confessed all about Tara’s death to youngest grandson, Thomas. Unfortunately, her older grandson, Abel, overheard her confession and is old enough to understand his grandmother’s actions. Hell hath no fury like a son scorned. There will be comeuppance in Gemma’s future from both father and son once the truth is revealed.

Speaking of junkies and club matters, “Greensleeves” turned out to be a bad news pimp, blackmailer, and drug dealer with a motley crew. Jax disposed of the sleazy peddler soon after he obtained the information he wanted. In the process, it appeared they recruited a member of “Greensleeves” crew for their own questionable adult entertainment enterprise. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Yet, it is all in a day’s work for the Sons of Anarchy.

In other Sons of Anarchy developments, main MC member Bobby Munson (Mark Boone Junior), who has a nice set of pipes as we learned in this episode, was run off the road while en route to check on Gemma’s safety. Moreover, he was used to send a message to the club via his extracted eyeball complete with video. Meanwhile, Nero, who is played by NYPD Blue‘s Jimmy Smits, has decided to cash in his chips and leave the gang life behind. He wanted Jax to buy him out of Diosa and Gemma to accompany him to pursue a quieter life together. Despite the anvils from last week’s episode, it appears Nero has not connected the dots after all regarding Gemma’s involvement in Tara’s death, or has he and this is part of his exit strategy? The viewers should remember when Jax and Tara planned for their exit strategy. Unfortunately, fans already know how that turned out.

Now that the cat is out of the bag on Sons of Anarchy, how will the truth about Gemma’s actions and Dr. Knowles’ demise be revealed as Sons of Anarchy races toward its finish line? Will Juice make it right with the club by killing Lin or will Sheriff Jarry, who is portrayed by Annabeth Gish of X-Files fame, and Unser (Dayton Callie) manage to turn the loyal biker in order to learn the truth? Regardless of the questions posed, the story is far from over as the Sons of Anarchy barrels toward its final conclusion. Watch and learn how the truth is revealed as the final episodes of the hit cable series are broadcast at 10 p.m. EST on Tuesdays on FX.
