Carol Ann Susi Loses Battle to Cancer

Carol Ann Susi

Carol Ann Susi, an American actress best known for her unseen role as Mrs. Wolowitz on Fox’s The Big Bang Theory, lost her battle to an aggressive form of cancer today. She was 62 years old. Producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro, and Bill Prady released a statement with Warner Brothers confirming her passing. The producers praised her “immense talent and comedic timing.”

While invisible for the majority of The Big Bang Theory’s eight seasons, Susi’s character, Mrs. Wolowitz, made a singular roof-top appearance during Howard’s wedding in season 5. While she did have a central role in the current season’s storyline, some have noted Melissa Ranch’s uncanny ability to sound similar to the Brooklyn-born star. No plans have been announced on how the show will continue without her.

Susi’s roles on television have been numerous with episodes on CSI: NY, Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty, That 70s Show, The King of Queens, The Drew Carey Show, Just Shoot Me!, ER, and Married with Children. She leaves behind her brother Michael, and his wife, Connie. Fans of Susi’s work have already begun pouring out their condolences.
