Chicago Man Killed, Four Others Hurt in Shootings Over Weekend


A Chicago man was killed and four others hurt in city shootings over the weekend. A teenager, aged 18, was shot to death and four other men were injured in five separate shootings across Chicago from Saturday night into Sunday morning, stated Illinois law enforcement. The teen was declared dead after he was shot at 5:09 p.m. Saturday evening in the neighborhood of Burnside, which is located on the South Side, explained police. The shooting occurred near the 800 block of East 87th Street, according to a Chicago Police Department spokesperson.

The victim was killed after being struck in the side of the head. He was found on the sidewalk, noted the spokesperson, and was declared dead at the scene of the crime. Law enforcement declared the shooting was related to gang activity. At 4:32 a.m. Sunday morning, a man, aged 33, was discovered shot around the 12200 block of Halsted Street in the area of Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side. There was also a man, aged 23, who was found shot in the 1600 block of Elston Avenue in the Northern Branch region of the industrial area on the upper North Side.

The 33-year-old man was reportedly advanced upon by another male who began to shoot him, according to a Chicago police news affairs spokesperson. The victim ended up being hit in each of his legs and also in his stomach. He was rushed to the nearby Advocate Medical Center where he is listed in serious but stable condition. The police spokesperson noted that as of Sunday afternoon, Chicago police did not have anyone in custody, but South Area investigators were looking into the crime.

The 23-year-old man apparently walked into West Suburban Hospital on his own accord. According to reports, he was suffering from gunshots to his left ankle and also his right thigh. Hospital reports state that he is in fair condition. The man was allegedly shot by an individual riding inside a black SUV. At the present time, the Chicago police had no one in custody and North Area investigators were looking at the crime.

Another victim, a 28-year-old man, was hurt around 11:40 p.m. Saturday night in the neighborhood of South Austin. The victim was riding in an automobile traveling west on Chicago Avenue, close to the 800 block of Latrobe Avenue, when he stated that he heard gunshots and felt pain in his body. He had been hit in his right thigh and was rushed to Suburban Medical Center, where he has been listed as being in stable condition.

About a mile away, another teenager, 19, was shot at 11:55 p.m. Saturday night, also in the South Austin region, stated the spokesperson. This victim was located around the 400 block of Laramie Street when two men reportedly walked up to him and shot him, he told the police. He was hit in the buttocks and also had a minor wound to his right leg. He was rushed to Suburban Medical Center by several friends where his condition was listed as stable. These reported shootings added to another vicious weekend for Chicago, even though the Windy City only had one death due to the violence.
