An earthquake hit in the ocean just 79 kilometers off of the Chile coast, West Northwest of the coastal city of Iquique. It had a magnitude of 5.0, one of the largest to shake the country in recent weeks. With an epicenter at a depth of 19 kilometers under the water, the damage on land was not as significant as a quake of this size might have caused. No tsunami warning has been issued in conjunction with the seismic event.
