Florida police charged a man with murder on Sunday after the body of his mother was discovered slouched over a couch, with arrows protruding from the dead woman’s head. According to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office news release and the arrest report, 42-year-old Michael Watkins murdered his mother, 65-year-old Gloria Watkins, with a bow and arrow inside of the Avon Lane home they shared in Mary Esther, Florida.
Deputies were called to the Florida home at 2:48 a.m. on Sunday morning by the next-door neighbors of the Watkins’, who reported that there was somebody in their front yard yelling at somebody else and toppling over their Christmas decorations. Upon arriving at the neighbors’ home for what they believed to be a simple criminal mischief case, the callers told them that they believed the man in their yard was their neighbor, Michael Watkins, and that while waiting for the authorities to arrive, they had heard him arguing with somebody.
As Deputy Brandon Jennings approached the Watkins home, he saw the body of Gloria Watkins inside and called for back-up. While Jennings was waiting for additional deputies to arrive at the scene, Michael Watkins came out of the house. Jennings observed that he was wearing a sheath in his waistband and that the sheath was holding a large knife, and ordered him to get down on the ground. Michael initially did as he was told, but then stood up and entered his home, where he picked up a small dog and came back out of the house.
According to the Okaloosa County, Florida, arrest report, Michael Watkins pointed at his mother and remarked, “You see, that’s death.” He admitted to killing his mother, saying that she was going to murder him. There is no indication of how or why Gloria Watkins was going to murder her son. Deputies ordered Michael to drop to the ground repeatedly. Although he did eventually comply with the repeated requests by deputies and laid on the ground, he then got to his feet and took the knife out of the sheath in his waistband. Michael did lay down the knife, but he fought deputies who were trying to handcuff him, forcing them to employ a stun gun two times in order to subdue him.
During his interview with Okaloosa County deputies, Michael Watkins was asked if he knew why he was in police custody, to which he responded, “Yeah, I shot my f***ing mom.” After detailing how he first used a handgun to shoot his mother in the head, then shot her in the head with a bow and arrow before stabbing her, the Florida man admitted that he felt no remorse for doing so. Watkins also offered two more reasons for the murder of Gloria Watkins, saying that she had stolen diamonds from him and had caused his father to develop cancer.
Michael Watkins faces charges of resisting arrest without the use of violence and first degree premeditated murder. He is currently in jail. There is no indication of whether or not Michael has retained legal counsel. An autopsy will be conducted on Gloria Watkins.

I’ve been complaining about police and judicial corruption in pinellas county and the use of aggravated stalking by under cover officers to harm the public and every aspect of life. To include using obedience to authority to encourage the public and professionals to harm for authority because they can use police status to deter any detection of a crime. And there are no account-abilities due to under cover police status. When my brother worked in Tampa he made a new friend at his job who also loved hunting. On a bow and arrow hunting trip the ‘newer friend’ shot a Bow and Arrow at my brother’s head twice!
