An accident at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) caused one apprentice worker to be killed and another seriously injured. BHEL is an engineering and manufacturing company owned by the Indian government. The accident took place in a facility in the Mendak district of Telangana, India. A report given by police indicated that two workers were struck by heavy machinery falling from above. The man who was killed was in training, though the report did not indicate how long he had been on the job.
No details have been released about how the accident happened or what the machinery involved was. Several workers, upset about the incident, have begun to hold a dharna protest at the BHEL location, saying that they are demanding justice. It is unclear yet whether those protestors believe that the accident was preventable, or what specific form of justice they are requesting. Police are conducting an investigation into the accident, and are expected to give more details as the specifics of the incident are discovered.
