Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 Highlights

Every year in January multiple groups of gamers come together to put on the event, Awesome Games Done Quick. The 2015 rendition of the event recently finished and was quite the success. Over the course of seven days the community raised more than $1.5 million dollars in donations for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Now that the event is over, the catalog of video games awaits viewers to explore and enjoy.

There were many highlights this year from Awesome Games Done Quick. Twitch plays pokemon was an event that has now passed, but many remember it still. The event was one for the whole community and as such many became involved in it. Now the opposite has happened. Instead of Twitch playing pokemon, pokemon played twitch.

The extra difficult Mario game some in the U.S. are unfamiliar with had an excellent run, Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels looks like the original, except much harder. This run goes to show how enjoyable a run can be when the player is talkative and excited about the game being played. The week-long event certainly had a lot of games, but this run is sure to surprise with such excellent use of knowledge and skill.

The Nintendo Gamecube had a game that might sound silly out of context, but that does not change how good of a game it is. Super Monkey Ball is a game that requires a specific understanding of balance. This speedrun is done on Master difficulty and is so elegant it makes the game look easy, which it is not.

Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 had tons of different types of video games. Viewers could watch old school platformers they grew up with or maybe something more new and unexpected. What viewers need to remember is that some games are more suited for speedruns than others. Games that have randomly generated dungeons are very dangerous when it comes to speedruns. Additionally, games that end when you die (Roguelike) are very difficult to speedrun, one small mistake can ruin the entire run. Rogue Legacy is one game that can get rather crazy, but had quite the run this time.

The classic Super Mario Bros. 3 had two runs at Awesome Games Done Quick this year. One that took less than an hour and was legitimate, the other took less than five minutes and was a massive glitch manipulation. Many glitch runs happen right after the runner finishes the legit one, which is also the case here.

The week-long speedrunning event Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 is finished, the next event will be in the summer and is Summer Games Done Quick. With more than $1.5 million raised for the betterment of society, it goes to show how much can be accomplished when people with commons goals and interests come together. The event had a lot going on and as a result, has a massive amount of highlights. These videos were only a few of the sights, others include a three-hour run of Final Fantasy VII, the first three dungeons of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time blindfolded and even a proposal in the middle of a speedrun.
