‘The Fantastic Four’ trailer was released today and it appears to be out of this world. Literally, the plot will not take place on earth. The trailer does not have the same feel as the previous two movies in 2005 and 2007, perhaps a younger feeling.
‘The Fantastic Four’ movie reboot will not have any of the former cast because it is a reboot. The new cast includes Michael B. Jordan as the human torch, Kate Mara from “House of Cards” as The Invisible Woman, Miles Teller from “Divergent” as Mr. Fantastic, Jamie Bell as the thing, and Toby Kebell, a chimpanzee from ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,’ as the antagonist, Doom.
In effort to veer away from comic books, Trank has made a new story line, whereas comic book readers usually know the plot of the story, they will know just as much as everyone else.
‘The Fantastic Four’ has been described as having a darker feel to it. It has already been said that the movie will not be based on old ‘Fantastic Four’ comics. The movie is said to take place in an alternate and dangerous universe, this is where their physical form is altered drastically and they have to face former friend Dr. Doom in effort to save Earth.
The actress Kate Mara playing Sue Storm and her secret identity, The Invisible Woman, said to The Dissolve, “I’ve never been a fan of comics, I’ve never actually read one. I was going to for this movie but the director said it wasn’t necessary” she goes on to say that the director, advised not to read any comic books but she adds that she is a fan of comic book movies.
The director, Josh Trank, has written a few movies but only directed one movie which was ‘The Chronicle.’ Trank is now embarking on a quest that is ‘The Fantastic Four,’ not to be confused with ‘Fantastic Four,’ from 2005 and 2007 both directed by Tim Story.
‘The Fantastic Four’ is said to be a darker than the previous two. This movies is like Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy with his ‘Interstellar’ movie; the plot of ‘The Fantastic Four’ seems strangely similar to that of ‘Interstellar.’ Nolan seems to be leading the way as far as epic movies go. That is exactly what Trank is going for, epic.
The 2005 and 2007 movies were both produced by Fox as well as the new ‘The Fantastic Four.’ This movie, as it may be a happy accident, put the word ‘the’ in its title to differentiate between the old and the new. Ostensibly following the lead of the ‘The Amazing Spider Man’ in which they put a “the” in the beginning.
Trank suggests the film will be “very grounded” perhaps the movie will not be out of this world. Rumors have been floating around that the villain Dr. Doom might undergo a gender switch from man to a woman, from Dr. Doom to Dr. Doom, again following the lead of someone else; specifically, Jason Aaron, comic book writer, wrote that Thor would be receiving a sex change from a man into a woman.
The similarities are just that, coincidence, happy accident, rumor, or Trank is playing follow the leader. Either way ‘The Fantastic Four’ will be in theaters August 6 for people in the U.K. and August 7 for people in the U.S.. So far, From the trailer, Trank seems to be doing a good job of making ‘The Fantastic Four’ epic and out of this world.
