As you take on the task of making your dreams a reality, you are bound to face some form of adversity. You will fail, again and again. Nearly all successful people will tell you that “making it” is no easy feat – they all faced adversity in their lives. It is worth it, however, if you are able to persevere and overcome adversity when it strikes. Unfortunately, powering through hard times is not easy either. So, here are three easy-to-implement tips to help you stay motivated in the face of adversity.

Write your down you dreams

It is so much easier to stay motivated when the going gets rough if you have some sort of reference to keep you on track. If you have an affinity for writing, jot down the dreams you are working towards and post them everywhere. Tack them to your bulletin board at home, your office cubicle, your bathroom mirror, and even your steering wheel. If you are a more visual person, consider crafting a vision board. The point is that those with beautiful minds need to keep their dreams at the forefront of their mind. That way, when your are faced with adversity and hard times hit, you will remember why you do what you do. Steve Maraboli, a life coach and best-selling author, said, “If you have a goal, write it down. If you do not write it down, you do not have a goal – you have a wish.”

Remember to recharge

Working constantly and never taking a break does nothing for the soul but suck it dry. Then, when adversity does hit, you have no reservoir of good vibes to bank on. You end up exhausted and ready to quit at the slightest hint of friction. You can prevent this completely just by remembering to recharge yourself every so often. Take time to do what makes your soul sing. Do yoga, paint something, or smash pumpkins. In the face of adversity, you want to make sure your soul is healthy enough to handle the pressure. Author of Great Think, Laila Gifty Akita, stated, “Stay strong in spirit, be patient and you will overcome any situation.”

I am willing to bet my life on the fact that there is at least one person in your life who cares about you deeply. So, when you need to overcome adversity – go to them. A great way to stay motivated is to simply connect with another soul that has your best interest in mind. To clear you adversity-stricken mind, grab coffee, workout, or veg out on the couch with movies and a bottle of wine. The connection does not have to be in any extravagant setting, the point is to allow another soul to support you while you struggle to support yourself. Rachel Naomi Remen, a pioneer of integrative medicine said, “The most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention… A loving silence often has far more power to heal and to connect than the most well-intentioned words.”

At the end of the day, just remember that whatever adversity you face is temporary. No storm lasts forever. Adversity can be overcome by sticking to these three simple, yet powerful notions. Hunker down and be encouraged, knowing that you will be okay one day. All adversity can come to end.
