Everybody Loves Raymond

Thursday, April 23, Everybody Loves Raymond cast and fans suffered a great loss when Sawyer Sweeten chose to take his own life. Sweeten has been on the show with his twin brother since he was only a year old, and played, Geoffrey Barone.

A grieving Ray Romano, said that he was terribly sad and shocked when he heard of Sawyer’s death. He continued, saying he was a sweet, wonderful kid who had a lot of energy on the set. Romano said his heart breaks for him and his loved ones in the wake of his death.

Patricia Heaton, played Sawyer’s mom on Everybody Loves Raymond, talked about how funny Sawyer was to be around and he was extremely smart and has left this world far too soon. The Sweeten family is suffering unimaginable pain. Patricia urged parents to hug their children tightly and keep Sawyer and his family in their prayers.

Brad Garrett, another cast member of Everybody Loves Raymond, said he had been devastated by the news of Sawyer’s death. He said the Sweeten family was their family too for the nine years they worked on the set together. They watched him grow up. Garrett sends out his love and condolences go out to the Sweeten family.

The creator of Everybody Loves Raymond, Phil Rosenthal, said that the cast loved Sawyer and knew him well, as a little boy. Sawyer, Sullivan and Madylin, his biological siblings were a charming, elemental part of our television family. They made us laugh and reminded them of their own children. He spoke for the cast saying, that Sawyer’s death is a terrible tragedy that makes the cast all incredibly sad and their hearts go out to the Sawyer family.

Doris Roberts, Sawyer’s on screen grandmother, got on Facebook Thursday night to pay remembrance to Sawyer. She said she mourns him with great sadness, having learned that he died at his family’s Texas home. He was a sweet, young man and he will be dearly missed. Then she reminds fans to tell their families how much they are loved, check-in and touch base with ones that have been far away for a while.  Get back in touch with family members who have been separated from the family.

Everybody Loves Raymond ran for nine years, from 1996-2005 on CBS. The show centered on a sports writer, Ray Romano, his older brother and his parents. Sawyer and his twin brother, Sullivan, were ten when the show’s run came to an end.

Sawyer’s older sister, Madylin, confirmed that her brother had committed suicide. She was devastated to learn that her brother had taken his own life buy shooting himself on the front porch of the family home. Sawyer was home visiting family and it was just a few weeks away from his 20th birthday. She has asked for privacy for her family and for fans to reach out to their own loved ones.

Sawyer Storm Sweeten was born May 12, 1995 in Brownwood, Texas. His parents were Timothy Sweeten, former Elizabeth Millsap and other siblings, as told in the online biographies.
