Train Collides With Car and Kills 1 in Bessemer


Authorities in Bessemer, Alabama are investigating a fatal car wreck after an Amtrak train collided with the vehicle and killed a person. The identity of the driver of the car is unknown and also the circumstances leading to the crash have not been announced yet.

The crash took place on Carolina Avenue and 16th Street South at 2:38 pm and the train finally came to a stop after four blocks. While none of the passengers aboard the train were injured, details about the passengers on the car is still incoming. Police confirmed that one person in the car was killed during the accident.

Amtrak representatives were present, but Deputy Police Chief Mike Roper told that the passengers were still on onboard the Amtrak and had not been moved yet. The police, meanwhile, have cordoned off the area.

This fatality follows the news of another accident where a couple in a BMW was hit by a train while crossing the tracks in Elmwood Park, New Jersey on April 19. The couple was not injured, but they were ticketed for ignoring a railroad crossing.
