The Billboard Music Awards 2015 show tonight, live from the MGM Grand in Los Vegas, was hosted by Ludacris and Chrissy Teigen, and Taylor Swift’s video, Bad Blood, premiered. Taylor Swift and One Direction were two of the biggest winners tonight. The awards show was full of great musical performances, by Mariah Carey, Hozier, Van Halen, Nicki Minaj and many others. Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea sang Pretty Girls, also.
The Billboard Music Awards show opened up with the premiere of Bad Blood. It was pretty amazing, and starred a lot of famous celebrities and musical artists, like Lena Dunham, Jessica Alba, Ellie Goulding and Selena Gomez. The women in the Bad Blood video appeared to be super spies, with specialized skills aimed at producing death and destruction. The video, reportedly about Swift’s friendship with Katy Perry, looked more like the trailer for an action-packed thriller, and it must have cost quite a lot of money to make.
Then, Taylor Swift introduced “the mighty Van Halen!” Van Halen was the first live musical artist to perform tonight on the BillBoard Music Awards show. They did the song Panama, with the incomparable David Lee Roth, the original singer of the song.
Ludacris and Chrissy Teigen were funny and entertaining hosts of the Billboard Music Awards show. Ludicris told Chrissy “This is my second year of hosting, and they’ve been paying me in alcohol the whole time.”
The Billboard Music Awards show’s first award that was presented was for Top Duo or Group. It was presented by Lily Aldridge and Charli XCX and it was won by One Direction. They all walked onto the stage, to the cheers and screams of their loyal (mostly female, by the sound of it) fans.
After a commercial break, when the Billboard Music Awards show came back on, the award for Top Billboard 200 album was presented by Laverne Cox and Tracee Ellis Ross. The Billboard award went to 1989, by Taylor Swift, the biggest-selling album of the year.
Next, Chrissy Teigen introduced Fallout Boy, joined by Wiz Khalifa, singing “the praises of Uma Thurman,” as Chrissy put it, in Fallout Boy’s hit, Uma Thurman. The female dancers on stage, all costumed to resemble Uma Thurman, were a nice touch to the awesome performance.
Following another commercial break, on the Billboard Music Awards show, Nick Jonas was the second musical performer of the night. Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson from The Bachelorette introduced him, and he sang his big hit, Jealous. He was wearing a silver-colored shimmery jacket and black pants.
Then, Chrissy Teigen introduced Meghan Trainor and John Legend, who sang Like I’m Gonna Lose You. Meghan started off the song, then John Legend joined in. It was a more mellow, but very cool, performance.
When the Billboard Music Awards came back after more commercials, Mariah Carey was introduced by Idina Menzel. She took the stage after an absence of 15 years. Carey will be Las Vegas’ newest resident headliner, like Britney Spears. Carey sang two songs, Vision of Love and Infinity, during the show, and her voice sounded as incredible as it ever has sounded. She can still hit the high notes she has in the past, with seeming ease.
The Billboard Music Awards show award for Top Rap Song was presented by Danica McKellar, Winnie from The Wonder Years. It went to Iggy Azalea and Charlie XCX, for their song, Fancy. Iggy and Charlie XCX went up to accept the award. Iggy said “I appreciate the award so much.”
After another break, when the Billboard Music Awards show returned, Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa sang the hit song from Furious 7 about Paul Walker, See You Again. The song has been Number One for several weeks, and it has helped the soundtrack from the movie also be at Number One on the Billboard charts.
Then, Celine Dion presented the Billboard Music Awards show award for Top Male Artist. The award went to…Sam Smith. He was not there, recovering from vocal surgery in New York. Instead, a clip was shown of Sam Smith, with cards with words on them, thanking everyone for the award.
Next on the Billboard Music Awards show, following yet more commercials, Taraji P. Henson, from Empire, was up, and she introduced Jussie Smollett, Bryshere ‘Yazz’ Gray, and Estelle, to celebrate the music of the hit T.V. series, Empire. They sang Conqueror and You’re So Beautiful.
After their performance, Chrissy Teigen introduced Hozier. He sang his smash hit, Take Me to Church. It was another spectacular performance and one of the highlights of the awards show.
Then, the Billboard Music Awards show award for Top Radio Song was presented by the members of One Direction. It went to John Legend for his song, All of Me. He thanked his wife, Chrissy Teigen, for having inspired him, and all of his fans.
Ludacris next did a tribute to B.B. King, his famous guitar, Lucille, and his music. B.B. King passed away last Thursday. Ludacris said at the end of the brief tribute “God bless B.B. King.”
Following another commercial break on the Billboard Music Awards show, Florida Georgia Line introduced Little Big Town, along with Faith Hill, singing Little Big Town’s big hit Girl Crush.
The Billboard Music Awards show award for Top Female Artist was then presented by Ellen Pompeo. It was won by — who else — Taylor Swift. She graciously accepted the award, again thanking everyone involved, her fans, and everyone who had appeared in the Bad Blood video.
Next, Miss America Kira Kazantsev and actor Pete Wentz presented the Billboard Music Awards show award for Top Touring Artist. It was won by one of the big winners of the night, One Direction.
Then, Jennifer Lopez introduced Pit Bull and Chris Brown performing the song Fun. Chris Brown began the song, then Pit Bull joined in. Chris Brown was dressed in a cool-looking all-red suit. Pit Bull was wearing a grey suit jacket and white shirt and pants.
Zendaya introduced the next performer on the Billboard Music Awards show, Ed Sheeran. He sang Bloodstream. Sheeran is one of today’s hottest musical artists and he has influenced many other musicians with his songs.
Chrissy Teigen then introduced the duo who presented the Billboard Music Awards show award for Top Hot 100 Song, 50 Cent and Rita Ora. It was won by Meghan Trainor, for All About That Bass. She seemed very surprised to have won.
Chrissy Teigen introduced a performance that took place on the Las Vegas Strip, of Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea singing Pretty Girls. They put on a sexy performance of what many people are predicting will be this summer’s hottest song.
After another break, Chrissy Teigen introduced Prince Royce, who presented the Billboard Chart Achievement Award. The award was won by Taylor Swift. She thanked all of her fans for having voted for her, and said “This is such a good night! Thank you!”
Then, Fifth Harmony introduced the next musical performers on the Billboard Music Awards show, Nicki Minaj and David Guetta. They both put on yet another amazing performance, singing The Night Is Still Young and Hey Mamma.
Following another break, Ludacris introduced Kia’s “One to Watch” performer, Tori Kelly. She sang the song Nobody Love, and the audience cheered her on as she sang and accompanied herself on the guitar.
Molly Ringwald then introduced Simple Minds, who 30 years ago, did the soundtrack of Ringwald’s movie, Breakfast Club. Simple Minds sang their hit from 30 years ago, Don’t You Forget About Me. The band sounded as great as ever, looking a bit older, of course, but still sounding great.
Kelly Clarkson, introduced by Pentatonix, was the next musical artist to sing on the Billboard Music Awards show. She sang the song Invincible, and she put on an excellent performance, as usual, for her.
Chrissy Teigen introduced Hailee Steinfeld and Brett Eldredge, presenting the Billboard Music Awards show award for Top Country Artist. The award went to…Florida Georgia Line.
John Legend then said, as a tribute to B.B. King, Imagine Dragons would sing his hit song, Stand By Me. Imagine Dragons might seem like sort of an odd choice to sing this song, but they did an incredible job performing it in honor of B.B. King.
Then, the stars of the upcoming Entourage movie presented the Billboard Music Awards show award for Top Artist. The award was won by Taylor Swift, adding to her string of wins tonight. She said “This is such a good night!”
Kylie Jenner and Khloe Kardashian introduced Kanye West. He performed the song All Day. The censors were kept busy, silencing large portions of the song. The bits that could be heard sounded pretty good, but the parts that were cut interrupted the flow of the performance.
The Billboard Music Awards show was closed out by Kanye’s performance. Several awards were not presented during the show, probably because of time considerations, and to have time for the many musical performances. The biggest winners of the night included Taylor Swift, Florida Georgia Line and One Direction.
