Could Selena Gomez possibly be using Justin Bieber in hopes to sell more copies with her forthcoming studio album? According to reports, this could very well be the case. The 22-year-old, who is currently finishing up her upcoming record, has seemingly reunited with her on-again, off-again boyfriend right after she revealed her newest single, Good For You.
The song itself is doing extremely well on the Billboard Hot 100, having sold 110,000 copies in its first week alone. But many are convinced that all of the Bieber drama is one big publicity stunt to sell more albums once the record drops later this year.
Looking back at the songs that the former Disney star has released in the last year, there is a certain pattern she seems to be following; all of her newest tracks are aimed at her ex-boyfriend, and all of them are charting high. Even fans have questioned as to why SelGo has reunited with the Biebs, having seen the Hollywood singer stress on how much she has wanted to move on from her former relationship to start a new beginning on her own.
Sources are alleging that all of the Bieber romance is a smart marketing strategy for Gomez, who just recently signed a new record deal with Interscope. The label may be hesitant to see what the 22-year-old can do in terms of sales and whether investing money into the promotional stages is actually going to be worth it.
Gomez has always had strong single sales, but the same cannot be said for her albums. Her previous release, Stars Dance sold a measly 94,000 copies in its first week, compared to her BFF Taylor Swift, who pushed 1.2 million copies in 7 days — and that’s without the help of an ex-boyfriend for once.
Whatever the case may be, a lot of people are not convinced that Gomez and Bieber’s recent hookup is disingenuine. It was just last week when it was reported how Swift was allegedly fuming over the reconciliation between her best friend and her former beau. Swift cannot stand Bieber. So to see him get back with her seems strange. Especially when one considers the fact that Gomez spent a lot of her time with Swift, hoping it will be a good distraction to get over her split from the 21-year-old.
Now that photos of Gomez and Bieber have emerged online, the buzz for this Hollywood couple has gone through the roof. The hashtag ‘Jelena’ was trending for three consecutive days as fans discussed how and why the two were dating one another again. Yes, this marketing plot will definitely boost Gomez’s music sales, but it can also potentially hurt her friendship with the likes of Ellie Goulding and Swift — both who are not too fond of Bieber.
