Shots were heard around 7:45 pm local time near the Walgreen’s at the junction of Eubank and Central Ave., just south of I-40. Police Chief Gorden Eden was in a somber mood during a press conference in which he also announced an arrest of a suspect involved in a road rage shooting death, of a 4-year-old toddler dead saying, “…this is a terrible day. A terrible day.”

While speaking before the reported arrest, Eden touted the suspect as armed and dangerous, he also advised residents in the area to stay inside with the windows and doors locked. Sheriff’s deputies from Bernalillo reportedly assisted in the search for the suspect, that covered eastern Albuquerque as reported by ABC News.

What began as a routine traffic stop, ended with a critically wounded police officer whose name was being withheld pending notification of relatives. Chief Eden also requested prayers for the officer’s family.
