Kanye West ‘American Idol’ Audition Scores a Golden Ticket [Video]

In May 2015, Fox announced that American Idol would be renewed for one final run. The singing competition which once ruled on the network is calling it quits after Season 15. Viewers can expect the return of last year’s judges: Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. along with the reigning host Ryan Seacrest. The final season will also reveal Kanye West’s American Idol audition in hopes of scoring the infamous golden ticket.

Most fans, however, are not surprised that the hit show has come to an end. It has failed to retain viewership and even come close to normalcy over the past few seasons. Season 15 starts on Wednesday, January 6 with a host of audition reveals and reportedly will go out with a bang. Fans are already anticipating the host of past winners and contestants who will return to say goodbye and thank you to the show’s producers for the opportunity.

A few months ago Kim Kardashian-West let her fans know that Kanye made an appearance by showing a glimpse of his audition, but now the entire video clip has been released. It was a great treat to see him in a different light, appearing as a contestant in hopes of scoring a golden ticket and ultimately a career in the entertainment business. Fans will either have to watch the video below or catch it when it airs on the show to see how Yeezy stacked up against other contestants.

Over the years, American Idol auditions have been a welcomed hit as an introduction to the singing competition. Sometimes, viewers are pleasantly surprised by the vocal abilities of the hopefuls and other times they are totally caught off guard with the many William Hung quality performances. What about Kanye? Does he deliver the goods in all the categories that matter when it comes to the competition or is it more of an entertaining prank?

The Gold Digger rapper took the floor as a regular guy from the South Side of Chicago who is void of ego. It has been a long time since that “guy” has been seen. Of course, he had to follow the example of other contestants over the years that made sure to kiss up to the judges. Performing a throwback hit in true Kanye style he spit the following lyrics:

But I’m looking for the one… Have you seen her? My psychic told me she has an a** like Serena/Trina, Jennifer Lopez, four kids/And I gotta take all they bad a** to show-biz.

An original song? Yes, because he wrote it, but so long ago that the judges are singing with him. Gold Digger was recorded by Kanye in 2005 featuring guest vocals by singer and actor Jamie Foxx. The song which was released as the second single from his second album, Late Registration, peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Overall, the rapper delivered a suitable performance, with several language bleeps. He also scored by bringing along his famous and pregnant wife, Kim. Of course, the 38-year-old landed a golden ticket… although his dream to be a famous entertainer came true long ago.

American Idol did well to capture the impromptu audition for its fans. While undoubtedly a ploy for ratings, fans will totally love watching Mr. West perform for the judges as they all pretend that the superstar who has captivated audiences in more ways than one is an unknown Idol hopeful. In the end, Kanye West’s American Idol Audition scored the coveted golden ticket.
