Palmetto Bay, Fla.–Officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) were involved in a shooting with a violent 25-year-old wielding a pick-axe. The incident occurred in southwest Miami-Dade and involved officers from MDPD assigned to the City of Palmetto Bay.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. EST, officers were dispatched to SW 88 Place and 183 Terrace regarding reports of an individual violently breaking neighbors’ vehicles windows and puncturing their tires with a pick-axe. In total, six cars were vandalized. As officers arrived, together with family members, the individual ran inside his home and locked the front door. The family members gave access to the officers into the home where they were confronted with the individual still in possession of the pick-axe. The individual lunged at the officers and they were forced to discharge their firearm, striking the subject.

The officers attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the subject until Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and pronounced the subject deceased at the scene. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is conducting the investigation. No further information is available at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
