On Sunday, May 28, 2017, at 6 p.m. (ET), Wave Church will hold a special service to honor Service members. Under the vision of Pastors Steve and Sharon Kelly, Wave Church has always sought to value and honor America’s military and the sacrifices they and their families make every day to secure the country’s freedoms.
Wave Church leads Hampton Roads in honoring those who fight for our freedom on regular basis, not just holidays. This church reaches out to its vast military community by offering to counsel military families, sending resources to deployed military personnel, providing military cell groups, and holds two services each year dedicated to honoring the military along with a host of hospitality events and so much more.
Headquartered in Virginia Beach, Va., Wave Church, along with its seven campuses, has a history of honoring the military. In the past, the church collaborated with the “Missing in America Project” to give an honorable burial to several veterans whose remains were unclaimed. It also partnered with CBN to gift a veteran’s wife with necessary medical equipment the family was unable to afford.
Memorial Day often gets confused with Veterans Day; however, the Memorial Day holiday is really set apart to honor and remember military personnel who died while serving their country. It is particularly dedicated to those who died either in battle or due to wounds they received in battle. Although the celebration highlights deceased soldiers, Wave Church always includes those that are active, retired or have served in any capacity.
Aside from a true soldier, Memorial Day may not hold the same value. With all of the pool parties backyard barbecues, it is easy to forget why it is a national holiday and for the truth to be forgotten. Sunday’s evening service will recognize the military by taking the time to thank these men and women and their family members. According to Pastor Steve:
We always want to show our gratitude and honor the many men and women serving and sacrificing, some even with their lives, for our freedom.
Wave Church is known for its support of military personnel, not just in Hampton Roads but also across this great country. True to their style, after the special service the church will hold a “Memorial Day” themed reception complete with all the great food one would expect. Steve and Sharon constantly reiterate how important the military is to our safety and survival. These men and women sacrifice their lives every day in order for citizens of these United States of America can enjoy the freedom that many take for granted.
Wave Church will be hosting a giveaway for all military in attendance. The winner will receive a free cruise (terms and conditions apply). Active duty military members are encouraged to come dressed in their uniforms. All former and active duty military along with their families are invited to attend the reception following the service.
Acknowledging the true meaning of Memorial Day is essential. It is about more than just having fun and celebrating; it is a day is reserved for honoring heroes. Many have lost their lives while serving this country. The United States would not be the powerful nation that it is without the many people who have fought for the country’s rights and freedoms.
Freedom is not free; someone had to sacrifice and risk their own to save a life. Americans should forever be thankful for all who currently serve and have served, in any branch of the United States military. Why not pause on Sunday, May 28, 2017, to accept the invitation and join Pastors Steve and Sharon Kelly along with the members of Wave Church by attending a special service to honor America’s military.
The service begins promptly at 6 p.m. (ET) at the main campus located at 1000 Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, Va. For more information visit www.wavechurch.com or contact Timna Jones at (757) 481-5005.
