32-year-old Stefani Germanotta otherwise known as Lady Gaga burst onto the music scene over 10 years ago and hasn’t left since.
Lady Gaga announced her LV residency Enigma more than a year ago. The day arrived on Friday, Dec. 28 that she finally took the stage for opening night at the Park Theater. Something rare in show business happened that night. All the reports and reviews of the show have been glowing. It was well worth the year wait for the show, and it has actually lived up to all the hype it received.
The Grammy Winner is known for her signature elaborate entrances to her shows. In 2011 she hatched from a space egg at the Grammy Awards. At the 2017 Super Bowl, she jumped off a platform. The 2107 Grammy Awards had her walking into a dive drag bar belting La Vie En Rose from A Star Is Born.
Gaga topped all her previous show openings with the one she performed opening night for Enigma. The singer hovered in a wire-strung harness high above the sold-out 5,200 crowd which included in the audience VIP’s Katy Perry, Dave Grohl, Regina King, Orlando Bloom, Adam Lambert, and Jeremy Renner. Mama Monster wore a geometric baby-blue wig and a mirrorball-reflective unitard, strumming a keytar. The enamored crowd gave her a standing ovation as she sang her breakthrough hit ‘Just Dance’ which was released in 2008.
The singer followed it up with spectacular performances of LoveGame and Poker Face and was joined by dancers who were wearing metallic outfits.
The show consisted of fan favorites including The Edge of Glory, Poker Face, Applause, Alejandro and of course Born This Way. While singing the song Government Hooker she ordered the crowd screaming Get the up! Get up and f—–g dance! She also rode a giant robot as she sung Scheiße. Gaga also did a stirring cover of David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails’ ‘I’m Afraid of Americans ‘ which would have made Bowie proud.
Now let’s talk about those outfits. Gaga teamed up with her sister Natalia Germanotta and her longtime fashion consultant Nicola Formichetti to make creations which were outrageously unique. The looks ranged from a bodysuit that was covered with flashing LED lights which covered a nude colored unitard to others that were fluorescent and leather.
She also rocked a black bodysuit covered with silver foil with giant shoulder pads. Then there was the black PVC leotard and lime green ruffle coat.
Throughout the 90 minute set, the singer spoke to a benevolent artificial intelligence graphic which was projected on multiple oversized screens. She referred to it as the simulation and her enigma.
The show was officially closed with Born This Way, but she returned for an encore with a piano version of Shallow, from A Star Is Born. This gave us a sneak peek of her second show Lady Gaga Jazz & Piano which will be coming to Vegas on Jan.20 for 9 shows. That show will have Gaga performing stripped down versions of her songs.
Lady Gaga completed her first Vegas show that is scheduled to go well into 2019 to a deserved standing ovation. She appeared comfortable on the Vegas Stage and has raised the bar for other acts to come to the Vegas Strip.
