Catherine “Gypsy” Share, a follower of Manson and his lover, spoke in an interview with “60 Minutes Australia” the time she spent in California with Charles Manson.
In August 2019, it has been 50 years since Manson and several of his followers known as “The Manson Family” shocked people around the world when they went on a bloody, deadly killing spree in Los Angeles, California at four different locations in July and August of 1969. One of those killed was Sharon Tate, who was pregnant at the time.
Manson died on Nov. 19, 2017, while still in prison at the age of 83.
The three surviving members of the killing spree remain behind bars and hope to be released.
Leslie Van Houten, 69-years-old recently had her parole granted and is the first member who will walk out of prison.
Share joined the family in 1969 at 26-years-old. She says at the time she felt lonely and vulnerable and regarded Manson as God. She told Tara Brown from “60 Minutes” that she thought he was the closest thing next to Jesus.
She said it appeared as if he knew everything. Everybody took what was told as gospel.
Share served five years on unrelated crimes, and she said she was never expected or asked to take part in the murders. She also felt if she were asked, she would not have done it.
She said she would have died first because if she did say “no” she probably would have been killed.
When the reporter asked Share to clarify the statement, she said that she would have been willing to give her life rather than kill somebody else. She added it does not make her a better person than others. It was just the fact she was older and less susceptible.
Share thinks all members of the family should be released. Share said the people in prison are not the same people
they were when they were 18 and 20.

Leslie Van Houten will not walk out of prison if the Governor does the right thing and veto’s the parole boards decision.
