Cardi

Thursday, March 28, Cardi B was nominated for an IHeart Music Award 21 times in 18 of 56 recognized music categories, putting her at the top of the billboard for the Music Awards. Post Malone and Drake followed a close second behind her, each receiving 17 nominations. They are all competing for the highest prize in the show, along with top artists such as Travis Scott and Ariana Grande, who each received 12 nominations.

Cardi B was shy only two nominations of holding the record for most Music Award nominations. She follows a close second to Drake and The Chainsmokers, both receiving 22 in 2017. Taylor Swift, however, holds the record for most nominations ever received, with a high of 23. Although Cardi did not break this record, she has already made history once before with the debut of her album ‘Invasion of Privacy.’ After releasing this album, she became the very first female to win a Grammy for the best rap album.

Cardi B is not only competing against others to receive an award for the show, but also against herself since she is a double nominee in three music categories: Top selling song, top collaboration, and top Hot 100 song. Though Cardi is at the top of the billboards, there are artists who are well grounded on the board themselves. One of which includes the late XXXTentacion, who received 10 nominations, including top male artist bids and top rap and R&B artist. He was also honored in 2018 for his work postmortem, where Kelly Clarkson hosted the Music Awards. This year, T-Pain will be hosting the show.

Although Cardi B has been nominated a numerous amount of times for her work, her husband, Kiari Ciphus (known as Offset), is not on the board. However, musical couple Beyonce and Jay-Z have both been nominated for top touring artist and top touring R&B artist. Winners of the awards will be announced Wednesday, May 1, at 8 p.m. on NBC.
