Typically May is a month of both good and bad news for network television, with final decisions coming down regarding renewals and cancellations. However, over at The CW, it seems to all be good news, as they have announced that the final four scripted shows waiting for a decision have all been renewed for an additional season on the network.
According to “Deadline,” the four shows that were waiting for news were “In the Dark,” “The 100,” “All American,” and “Roswell, New Mexico.” While “The 100” is a veteran series of the network and bringing it back meant giving the show a seventh season, the other three were all freshman shows which meant that there was never any guarantees that they would be brought back.
For fans of “Roswell, New Mexico,” this is especially good news considering the season finale on April 23 left viewers with a lot of questions and a cliffhanger or two that demand to be resolved. On social media, fans were already starting a hashtag campaign to convince The CW to bring the freshman series back after the events of the finale. Now, it is a matter of waiting to see what happens with the show, rather than worrying about its future with the network.
With these four renewals, The CW brings their total for renewals of scripted shows up to a record-breaking 14, over their previous count of 12 scripted series renewals which were brought back for the current viewing season. Considering The CW has expanded to six nights of content for the current season, it makes sense that more shows would be a given a chance to return.
Now that The CW has shared that they are renewing the last of the scripted shows that had been waiting for a decision, it is all about potential new series. With the 2019 – 2020 viewing season being the last for both “Supernatural” and “Arrow,” The CW will have to find at least two new shows to fill the void that will be left behind when these veteran series come to an end.
