Madonna recently said in an interview with British Vogue that the world is punishing her because she turned 60 years old.
Madonna’s statement did not sit well with the hosts of “The View.” On the May 7. 2019 show, the hosts, all except for Joy Behar, thought Madonna was unrelatable to women
The hosts slammed the singer for not recognizing accomplishments of other female artists including Grace Jones and Diana Ross.
Abby Huntsman said that she does not feel sorry for the pop star.
When 63-year-old Whoopi Goldberg started the segment, she made it clear that it was her opinion. She said:
“Madonna is the cover girl of British Vogue. She claims people always try to silence her. They say she is not pretty, talented, and is 60 years old.” Goldberg continued by saying “this happens to everybody. Madonna will be just fine if another artist takes their place in the sun.”
Seventy-six-old Behar disagreed saying that male bands like the Rolling Stones are still touring, and Madonna has a real complaint.
Goldberg responded that she should not have an issue. She continues to produce new music, and tour, and has a new album coming out.
Huntsman said that she found Madonna’s entire interview to be unrelatable to woman, and she has no humility.
Madonna said she has no role models because nobody can do what she does.
She also said there are no other women on the planet who has raised six kids, while being a single mother and has a voice the way the pop star does.
Goldberg chimed in and said “Diana Ross! There are plenty of people who have done it.”
Meghan McCain agreed and said that there were plenty of women in the sixties and older who are recording new music and touring. She gave examples of 72-year-old Cher, 66 year-old-Pat Benatar, and 70-year-old Stevie Nicks.
She added age does not matter. She turned to her co-hosts and said they hustle more than anybody.
Goldberg added Grace Jones! Mcain apologized and said, Grace Jones!
Sunny Hostin said that she thought when it comes to women, there is ageism. However, she thinks Madonna did not say things as she should have, and it did not land well for her.
Hunstman interrupted saying does not feel sorry for Madonna.
Hostin continued with the comments about Madonna’s children.
Goldberg interrupted her by saying that people have always raised children.
Goldberg continued by saying Madonna can say that she can still be a rock and roller and she is a great mover and shaker.
However, she cannot say that there is nobody else who has done it. Many amazing women are doing just that.
