On the morning of May 16, 2019, “The Nature Boy,” Ric Flair, was sent to the hospital as a result of an undisclosed medical condition. The 70-year-old pro wrestling star was rushed to a hospital in Atlanta after suffering from the unknown condition. Flair’s wrestling sheet reported that he was recently dealing with a heart condition, so sources believe that the issue may be related to his cardiovascular muscles.
Although many people believe Flair’s condition to be very grave, his son-in-law, Conrad Thompson, stated that it “is not as grave or serious” as some are making it out to be. Thompson says that the hospital visit was actually scheduled, and that “The Nature Boy” is undergoing a procedure.
While it is still unknown how serious of a condition Flair may be in, this would not be the first time he was admitted into a hospital under unfortunate circumstances. In August of 2017, he had a medical scare that resulted in him being in the hospital for approximately one month. He was placed in a medically induced coma for 11 days and had a surgery to repair a ruptured intestine. The doctors gave him a 20 percent possibility of survival, but he ultimately made a full recovery. Shortly after, he married his long-time girlfriend, Wendy Barlow, who stuck by his side during the entire ordeal. Flair most recently went on to appear at WrestleMania 35 in April of 2019.
In a documentary released in November of 2017, Flair blames alcohol for the reason he ended up hospitalized, revealing that he dealt with depression after his son, Reid, passed away in 2013. His son died of an accidental heroine overdose and was found in of a hotel room in Charlotte, North Carolina. Flair says that after the tragic incident, he battled with alcohol misuse, consuming up to 15 drinks per day during his lowest points throughout his WWE career. He has reported that since then, he has been sober.
