Mexican Actress Edith Gonzalez Passed Away Due to Cancer

On June 13, 2019, Mexican actress, Edith Gonzalez, lost her life in a battle with cancer at the age of 54.

Born December 10, 1964, Gonzalez grew up to be an actress and dancer. She began her work on Spanish television networks such as Telemundo, TV Azteca, and Televisa. While working for Televisa, she landed important roles for Mexican TV. She made her first appearance on TV Azteca in “Cielo Rojo” and made her first debut on Telenova in “The Academy.”

In August of 2016, Edith Gonzalez publicly announced that she had been diagnosed with the disease. Though Gonzalez was widely known for her roles in soap operas and movies such as “Doña Bárbara,” “Sí, mi amor,” and “Vivir a destiempo,” she began to turn down recent role opportunities as a result of her declining health. The actress said that she re-prioritized the things in her life, and she needed to focus on her health. In April of 2017, Gonzalez took a brave step in facing her battle against cancer when she decided to pose for the cover of “Quién” magazine without a wig, revealing an entirely shaved head.  She did, however, attempt to make light of her situation by adding in some humor when she spoke of her condition. In August of 2017, Gonzalez told “El Universal,”

“Cancer is not cool, I talk to it and I tell it, ‘go away’. I take it with a sense of humor, nobody understands it, because I have a dark humor, but I will not allow this to defeat me, not physically, not spiritually, not mentally.”

Gonzalez was quoted saying that the cancer was “just a phase,” unfortunately, after struggling with stage four ovarian cancer and needing to have her lymph nodes, uterus, and ovaries removed, she was unable to overtake the disease.

Edith Gonzalez leaves behind to cherish her memory, one daughter, Constance, and a husband, Lorenzo Lazo Margáin as well as a multitude of friends, family, and fans.
