Disney is working on a live action version of their classic animated movie, “The Little Mermaid,” and while there has been some controversy thanks to the casting of Halle Bailey as the titular character, it seems that they are moving forward with finding other members of the cast. Of course, while Ariel is the heart of “The Little Mermaid,” we cannot forget her prince, as Eric is another important character in the story, and now it seems we may be getting former One Direction singer, Harry Styles, as the new Prince Eric.
While Styles is still just in talks to take on the role of Prince Eric, the fact that he was also in the running to play Elvis Presley might lend some weight to his chances. After all, the fact that he was up for the part of the King of rock and roll is definitely a point in his favor when it comes to landing an important role such as a live action Disney prince.
Harry Styles might best be known as a singer and former member of One Direction, but that does not mean that he could not be a great Prince Eric. As “The Hollywood Reporter” explains, while Styles is still in early talks to take on this iconic role, this would not be his first time in front of a camera, as he made his acting debut in the World War II drama, “Dunkirk.”
It seems likely that Harry Styles will ultimately get the part of the prince, as he does seem to fit the role of the character in many ways. It also helps that he is already a talented singer, and it is likely that “The Little Mermaid” will stick to its musical roots. However, fans will have to wait to see if everything works out for Styles in terms of officially taking on the role of Ariel’s human prince.
