Over the last few years, Prince Harry has made a name for himself as not only a conservationist, but also as an activist. In his latest effort to promote environmental conservation, the prince has taken the time to write a passionate essay revolving around the topic for “The Telegraph.” In his essay, Prince Harry gets “brutally honest” about what he sees as the main issues in terms of what he has seen on a global level.
According to “Harper’s Bazaar,” the prince understands that he is by no means an expert on the subject, but at the same time, he has also been a champion for the cause for the last 10 years, meaning that he has learned quite a bit about the issue and what needs to be done to save the environment. Working alongside scientists and other experts has allowed Prince Harry a chance to dig deep on the topic of conservation efforts, which is something he hopes to impart on others.
At the heart of the issue, Prince Harry feels that people are causing the destruction of the planet because of intrinsic selfishness and greed. The prince shared, “I have no problem in admitting that we are all part of the problem in some way, but a lot of us simply aren’t aware of the damage that is being caused.” This makes sense, as there are plenty of people who do not believe that there is a problem, with some even saying that climate change does not exist.
As Prince Harry explains, humans must co-exist with natural habitats and animals, in order to give our planet a chance to survive. In order to make progress on conserving the environment, the prince feels that everything has a place in the cycle of life and nothing should go to waste. Essentially Prince Harry believes that, “Conservation used to be a specialist area, driven by science. But now it is fundamental to our survival and we must overcome greed, apathy and selfishness if we are to make real progress.”
While Prince Harry has had to defend himself after using private jets to travel and being labeled a hypocrite when talking about environmental issues, it seems as if he has truly thought about what the world needs in terms of saving the planet and conserving the environment. Even though he may not be an expert, Prince Harry has clearly done his research when it comes to learning about environmental cycles and what needs to happen to save the Earth, which is why this essay is more than just a chance to make a statement.
Even though the prince is currently on a royal tour in Africa, it is clear that he wants to continue his conservation efforts and activism. With Prince Harry’s new essay, he certainly makes his thoughts known on environmental conservation known.
