Robert Axelrod has died at the age of 70. He played the voices of Lord Zedd and Finister in the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.”
According to his agent, Axelrod died on Sept. 7, 2019. “It is with a heavy heart that we write that client, Robert “Bob” Axelrod passed away yesterday in Los Angeles at the age of 70.”
In 1996, Axelrod played Lord Zedd in the flesh in “Mighty Morphin Power Ranger: Live.”
He played a myriad of characters, more than 150 over the years. Additionally, he wrote over 50 episodes of “Pizza Cats.”
In the early ‘70s, Axelrod was well known as a guitarist. He played folk and soul music. He also sang before becoming a voice-over actor.
According to his agent, Axelrod liked meeting his fans and “inspiring them to follow their passions. His beautiful and kindred soul will never be forgotten, and we take comfort in knowing his memory will live on in all those he inspired, met and knew.”
Axelrod was born and raised in New York City. As a kid, he appeared in commercials and did off-Broadway shows at the Soho Avant-Garde Theater as a teenager.
The performer starred in Michael Jackson’s 1995 video, “Stranger in Moscow.” The video comes from the album, “HIStory.”
Most recently, he played in the 2019 comedy-thriller, “Induced Effect.” The movie was released in April.
