A New York pastor is charged for the alleged murder of his estranged wife. The 63-year-old pastor from Westchester has been arraigned for murder, manslaughter and other charges in connection with running over his estranged wife and then hacking her with a machete. Reportedly, Pastor Victor Mateo ran over his ex-wife, Noelia, with her car before attacking her with a machete in the presence of her grandchildren and neighbors.
Mateo, the pastor of Christian Congregation The Redemptor, Inc., in the Bronx, was taken into custody in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, by the Pennsylvania State Police and U.S. Marshals Regional Task Force. The pastor was later extradited to the Bronx in New York City, where he was charged with murder, manslaughter, acting in a manner to injure a child and criminal possession of a weapon. Authorities described the brutal attack as follows:
When she left the home on Ellsworth Avenue to drive two of her grandchildren to school, Mateo struck her with his car, then ran her over with her own car that she tried hiding underneath.
As she was on the ground after getting hit, Mateo went back to his car to retrieve a machete, which he hacked her multiple times in front of her 11-year-old grandson and 9-year-old granddaughter.
Neighbors up and down the Throggs Neck locality came out of their homes after hearing the crashes and the woman’s screams, with some witnessing the horrific final act of evil the ex-husband allegedly unleashed on the victim in front of her grandchildren.
They say the apparent killing happened after some sort of argument, though the details of that fight were not immediately clear. He then fled the scene in his estranged wife’s vehicle.
The church, led by the pastor, according to Facebook is “a close-knit, Spirit-filled, bilingual congregation of worshipers of Jesus Christ located in The Bronx, NY. It is unclear what has become of the membership or who is now leading the congregation. However, it seems the people who worshipped at the Christian Congregation The Redemptor, Inc. loved and respected Mateo.
Noelia was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. The day after her brutal murder, a message on the church’s Facebook page reads as follows:
With great sadness, we report the passing into eternal life of our beloved Noelia. We shall miss you sister, and hope that we shall see you again.
The pastor cruelly attacked his wife, from whom he had been estranged for approximately a month, in front of her two young grandchildren. District Attorney Darcel Clark has vowed to pursue justice for the victim, as well as her family members who have been deeply traumatized by the terrible attack.
Witnesses say Noelia was covered in blood. Before taking her last breath she had crawled from the street to a small patch of grass on the curb, while her grandson and granddaughter stood across the street in shock. Reportedly, the victim was crying and praying as she died. Noelia was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.
Police responded to a 911 call about an assault in the Bronx around 7 a.m. Thursday. Police sources confirm the 58-year-old woman was run down by her ex-husband in his car on Ellsworth Avenue. After this, the pastor got into her car and ran over her as she was on the street. His victim tried to escape the brutal attack before being stabbed to death. Mateo is expected back in court on January 2020.
