“Mermaids: The Body Found” increases speculation on existence of mermaids

By Amanda Shore

Paul Robertson, a former employee of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), speaks in a two-hour Animal Planet special about his experiences with his research team while they were investigating mass whale beachings around the world. This television program, “Mermaids: The Body Found,” took about five years to complete and gives compelling evidence that suggests that mermaids could be real.

In this program, a sound clip that has been called “the bloop” is played as the first piece of evidence that there is an unknown or new species in the water. Robertson and his team were investigating the mass whale beachings in 2007. When they examined the tissue samples that they took from the whales, they discovered evidence of a SONAR weapon. They believed that this weapon caused the whales to become disoriented. The whales tried to escape the blasts of sound and ended up in waters that were too shallow to support their massive sizes, so they ended up beached.

To try and prove this theory, they pulled up one of their buoys that was recording SONAR activity. It was in this recording that the bloop was discovered. They recognized the sound of another animal mixed in with the sounds of the whales and dolphins. After more closely inspecting it, they discovered that the unknown creature was communicating with them, possibly warning each other to get away.

Later on, there was another mass beaching in South Africa. The researchers in South Africa had recorded similar sounds on their own devices. Robertson and his team traveled there to investigate. There, they were shown the remains of an unknown creature that had been found inside a great white shark. After carefully studying this creature’s remains, these scientists became convinced that it was a mermaid.

Unfortunately, the government confiscated the remains and their research as the team was about to return to the United States. The only thing that they had left was the bloop. Robertson tracked down one of two boys that had reportedly seen a mermaid body on the beach the morning of the first mass whale beaching. He says that he captured the mermaid on his camera phone. Robertson viewed this video as well as a drawing that the boy did after the event. The drawing matched what his team had found.

In addition to all of the scientific evidence that they found, they also looked to history for some evidence. There have been reports of strange spears and daggers found in sea creatures that fishermen have been finding for years. Robertson had found one of these tools in the great white shark. 16th-century drawings show very close matches to what Robertson and his team found. Ancient cave paintings show struggles between humans and mermaids.

Robertson stated in the program that he believes that mermaids do exist but that, unlike one of his colleagues who thinks that the only solution is to find them, he doesn’t want to find the mermaids anymore. He stated that he thinks the mermaids have survived this long because they know how to hide. He talked about how he doesn’t think that humans would be able to coexist with the mermaids without wiping them out. He is still trying to get the testing and development of the SONAR weapon to stop in order to save whales, dolphins and mermaids.

Whether they are mermaids or not, there are definitely mysterious and unknown species in the oceans. Watch “Mermaids: The Body Found” to decide for yourself.

If in fact they do exist why would the government try to hide their existence, why not put a team to study and try to communicate with them and see what can we learn from them, they just might know something that would be very helpful to us who know maybe even the cure for some of the deceases they we would like to cure for example cancer…but of course not all governments want is to have the advantage over other governments, …if I had the means to do it on my own I would try to find them and communicate with them just to know them and see how they live…even thou it´s pretty obvious…

Survivors of an ancient aquatic civilization. Descendants of Triton and Poseidon have lost their tridents and have to rely on small fishing arrows for weapons! They cannot even raise an electric spark let alone a thunder bolt!

  3. Milan Nikolic   January 1, 2015 at 10:06 pm

Anything is possible! Only thing that look suspicious is how are they make weapons (knifes) for hunting since they dont have chance to make them in the wather. Also if they are existing since 7 million years ago how they learnt to built thosr knifes…other than that it is very possible they are here in Oceans and Seas around the world.

    • Khipheyakhe   February 22, 2015 at 1:40 pm

Valid doubt about a permanently submarine culture that manufactures tools (hunting spears) for fishing =D Do they have gills for breathing? If not how do they manage to stay away from the surface of the sea and being sighted? Are the localized in the mid-Pacific waters? (Or, are they anaerobes or are they chemosynthesizers?) They would have to surface regularly for air, like whales and dolphins. Besides, our technology now should be able to put this matter beyond doubt. (Why should the government insist on secrecy on such species? Perhaps to protect them from extinction by inquisitive irresponsible trophy hunters?) Bizzare, fantastic, fabulous “ancient alien” stories. Mermaids. USOs (Unidentified Swimming Objects 😉

Confiscation….hiding things…sure signs that there is something they are hiding. I’d like to believe they exist. So fascinating!

I have three photographs of mermaid .. I get these photos in my whatsapp group on my mobile..they are clik by mobiles .. They are real not fake..

  6. Rick   August 7, 2014 at 5:25 pm

I don’t say they doesn’t exist because, if they have found bones and other physical and/or great evidences, then it’s certain there’s a new animal species… unless if it’s just another version of the Montauk monster.
Moreover, when a government confiscates any finding without any apparent good reason, it’s because they are hiding something.

However, after seing the show, it is clear that most of the video recordings seen on it and said to be “proofs” of the mermaids existance (not the ones that are computer animated), are fake, specially the one of the two boys who found it on the beach: It has all traits of a Screamer (a video intended to scare the person watching it when he/she less expects it), not to mention the differences in contrast of the creature’s body and the surroundings.

As for the bloop effect, it was also revealed to be just an icequake, although like almost anything in science, there is still a remote chance of it really being that said animal.

I’ve always felt that there has to be another type of Humanoid Creature relating to the waters. Because when we look at Natural Child Birth it’s way to amazing how a newborn baby knows just what to do under those conditions. I say conditions being that the human body temperature is around 98.6 degrees however once the birth is over the newborn baby is now in a new environment and a way much colder temperature of liquid fluid that is unknown to it And yet there is no indication that there was any struggle to adapt to a much cooler temperature. For this to happen for a baby then how much easier would it be possible for a grown man or woman to take to the sea and adapt to live in deep sea and over time metamorphosis take place & man as we know it changes just a little in certain areas so that he can compete in this new area or environment of life like the webbing between our fingers grow just a little bit more so that we can swim with greater ease. Every other creature on this planet has taken to the ocean over time and over came with metamorphic changes, snakes have done it birds are doing it everyday right before our very eyes. So thinking about this who could better adapt then man !!!

If the governments confiscated their research, it’s VERY obvious Mermaids DO Exist! ALL governments lie to it’s people… WE are NOT “alone” in the Universe or under the seas!

Real science is so fascinating and mystifying.
I’m offended that a once respectable channel would resort to this level of tripe.
What also really offensive is the number of people here who actually believe this crap!

  10. chris davis   January 1, 2014 at 11:33 pm

too many legends about their existence to ignore. I like the Dogan tribe legend that these creatures came from the Sirius star long ago, no Darwin theory. Why has the Sirius star been removed from Google sky. The crop circle that appeared in Salinas , Ca. DEC 30, 2013 had braille codes within them. 192 was the message. Iridium is 192 on the periodic table of elements . Iridium intake will make ones phychic powers very strong. See things for yourself and believe what you see. Don’t take any bodies word for truth, especially the government

If this is a hoax, which it appears to be, why did the University of Cape Town and the University of the Witwatersrand allow their names to be used ? They should sue for defamation and bringing their names into disrepute!! I did wonder why the UCT guy was dressed as if he was living in the 1970’s!

  21. Chris Wilson   June 24, 2013 at 3:34 pm

I guess when you publish online and borrow the name of a venerable newspaper people don’t immediately realize you are the equivalent of those black and white newspapers they sell in the grocery stores that publish pictures of sasquatches and ufos

  22. Mark   June 23, 2013 at 3:14 pm

If any of you guys would have googled the background of the show it wouldd say Charley Foley founder of animal planet gave orders to research mermaids for a show. It also says that all the perdons doing the interviews were actors. There is no proof that mermaids excist!

    • ginny   July 7, 2013 at 2:06 pm

Well while there might not be absolute proof they exist, there also is no absolute truth that they don’t. Giant squids ‘Don’t exist’ either or they didn’t 100 yrs. ago.

  23. Vince   June 20, 2013 at 11:16 am

Additionally, the show postulated that the mermaids are mammal and need air to breathe, even while remaining virtually undetected thus long because “do you know how deep the Marianas Trench is?” Uh huh … and how much air is down there? lol

  24. Amber   June 19, 2013 at 5:47 pm

You guys do know the actors are for the reenactments, right?

  25. polarbear   June 16, 2013 at 7:32 pm

what ever is people talk about this creature this is not something new in this century, people talking about this creature long time ago.. if this smting like only one two person seeing this creature no body beleive it. so its posibility that long time ago this creature appear any many people saw it.

  26. Eduajrdo Gustav   June 7, 2013 at 2:51 pm

There is a legal disclaimer that appears in the credits (near the end) that says something like “this is based on the possibility that mermaids may actually exist.” That is not exact, but it is written in a way that makes it clear it is not based on fact. Plus there is an ImDb page that shows the actors real names…

  27. Valentin   June 6, 2013 at 11:44 pm

If I’m not mistaken the videos that were played on the show were claimed to be “actual footage”, from that kid’s cellphone, a fishing boat etc. You don’t even have to replay the videos, because they are obviously fake. I watched this show laughing, I’d rather bet on Bobo finding bigfoot than these guys haha.

  28. R. S. Pony   June 6, 2013 at 3:45 pm

I found my rainbow sparkle pony eating a mermaid body!

  29. Lorne Johnson   June 2, 2013 at 9:47 pm

Thats funny. With the technology that we have. How is there anything that has not been discovered. I mean really, people are still looking for bigfoot. With the success of some television shows, i believe crirical thinking is a lost art in our society. Keep looking, you will find something that you will wish you never found.

  30. Richard Kimmel   June 2, 2013 at 9:49 am

Well, the show is obviously a fake. It’s all actors and disclaimers. The only thing that is real, as I recall, is the sound on the tape, and a “sound” is not the same thing as a mermaid now, is it? It has been several months since I saw the show and if you are maybe 9 years old it can be convincing. But if you have any capacity for critical thinking the whole thing falls apart. Oh, I’ve got to go- a flying saucer just landed in my back yard. Somebody call NASA.

  31. KS2 Problema   June 1, 2013 at 9:13 am

Clarification: when I wrote, “(Oh, and, whether true or not, I’m ALL for that sleazy and disreputable operation to be investigated from to p to bottom,” I inadvertently left out the information that I was referring to a reported fraud investigation of the people behind this ‘docufiction’ and the website that had been at mermaidsarereal.com.

  32. KS2 Problema   June 1, 2013 at 9:06 am

I think the Discovery channel should try their hand with an actual documentary for a change: how some people are as dumb as a bag of rocks.

The people who put this thing out called it ‘docu-fiction’ — that means it’s a STORY that they MADE UP about something they think will drag a couple eyeballs to the thoroughly sleazy Discovery Channel. (Oh, and, whether true or not, I’m ALL for that sleazy and disreputable operation to be investigated from to p to bottom.)

  36. mike   May 29, 2013 at 2:55 pm

The problem i have with this is that everyone asks for proof and when a video pops up every says its fake so no matter what nothing is legitimate enough for people.

  37. Posiden VII   May 28, 2013 at 3:01 pm

    I have seen a few first hand…
The people of the world should know the truth…they are far more advanced than we think and have 2/3 of the world to survive in…
The gov. just doesn’t want us to know what is really going on and how much harm we as humans on the surface have caused to the ocean.
These “aquatic apes” are a part of the our world and our DNA.
Thank you Paul Robertson and colleagues of his for not just researching, but for proving that they are among us.
Maybe someday, the gov. of the world will actually work together and make the world a better place, rather than just finding a way to make the most money for themselves!

  38. Judy   May 28, 2013 at 10:35 am

I believe we are not the only ones that exists in this world. Why wouldn’t there be aquatic humanoids. I think what we need to look at is why does our government agencies continue to lie and keep secrets of things that are of importance to all human beings. Our government has gotten way out of control. They are not my decision maker! They are probably pissed because this new species can’t pay taxes. LMAO… NOAA? what investigation have they done! Their credibility is no good, just like our government agencies!

    • 79mermaidfan   May 28, 2013 at 10:51 am

I totally agree on the subject of Why is the Government holding back????? Why is it sooooo important to keep secrets about other species out and about??? What’s the big deal? The truth is that we do know and chose to close our eyes and ears— guess these other species ain’t of importance to the world yet??? A world without lies and secrets is better for me… Just let it be already cheeeeezzzzz

  39. Sam   May 27, 2013 at 9:54 pm

Look up this topic and the scientists on NPR’s website before you discredit it. A lot of website have been seized on this debate by the US government.

  40. Roslynd   May 27, 2013 at 9:50 pm

I’d like to believe there are mermaids out there. I think there might be, or might have been. It’s entirely plausible. However, I question whether this film helps or hinders mermaid authenticity. They bring up good points, but this is not real. I’d like to see real evidence, not just speculation and movie magic.

  41. Joe Castaneda   May 27, 2013 at 6:51 am

Wow, just saw the show last night, some of the videos like the struggling fish with the spear in it looked like a video game shot, just unnatural movement! But the video that looked real was shot from the British Coast Guard with the two guys in the boat practicing water rescue with dummies, that one makes me think! there very well could be something out there. I guess the world is mostly water and it is possible some new life form could be living in hiding away from people.

  42. JTO   May 27, 2013 at 5:32 am

  46. Seriously?   February 28, 2013 at 12:53 pm

Gee, the first time this aired on television, I was like, oh cool. Mermaids are real. Then I freaked out at the cell phone footage. Probably fake though.

  47. Melissa   December 28, 2012 at 8:45 pm

You honestly believe we can simply write it off because an “offical” says it isn’t true? The NOAA can’t be blindly trusted anymore than the government. I’m not a conspiracy nut, or even a die hard mermaid believer, but I also see no issue with posing the question, “What if?” or “Could there be..?” There are signs of other life forms, and I don’t believe the the intention was to “fool people”. I’ll gladly take on the name of fool, if that is what being open minded means.

    • Sal Manella BF3   December 29, 2012 at 4:13 pm

If there are MerPeople I would Say it is some horrible Army or CIA expirament into Genetic Engineering, They are the kind of people who want to create a disembodied brain to put into the drivers seat of a YF22. Sirt of like in the movie “Donovans Brain”. Mer people might make better Navy SEALS than any land creature. They would be like porposes which are the only mamillian creature I know capable of killing a great white shark.

  48. Sigh   December 2, 2012 at 3:26 am

As people have already pointed out, it is a ‘fake’ documentary. The presentation of this article is grossly misleading since it fails to make it clear that the claims are fictional.

I saw the show Mermaids The Body Found I’m almost nine but i belived in mermaids so this was so wierd for me. The first mermaid I saw was Ariel the Disney mermaid so when I watched this i thought they would be more prettier so when i saw that they were blue i was FREAKED OUT and the video when the kids poked the mermaid with a stick it scared me so BAD but when ever the video showed up my sister would turn it down and watch it but i would cover up under my cover on the couch ’cause it has a big T.V

  50. Mark   November 23, 2012 at 2:36 am

They had me going, until I looked up the show and discovered Animal Planet refers to it as a “docu-fiction”. The evidence shown was entirely fiction.

But what I find fascinating is that the ideas presented aren’t entirely unplausible. It IS widely believed that Humans began to walk erect when they learned to find food in water. It isn’t all that far-fetched that some were compelled to focus their entire diet on seafood and evolved into aquatic mammals. It wouldn’t be the first time our ancestry branched. Neanderthals are a branch separate from our own which became extinct. Perhaps others successfully branched off and were able to thrive and survive by evading and avoiding contact with us. I’m convinced through personal experience that sasquatch are real. Considering we know more about deep space than we know of our own oceans’ depths, an aquatic primate/humanoid actually seems even more likely.

    • Sal_Manella BF3   December 1, 2012 at 9:09 pm

People are born with a blank slate of a mind. It is possible such a show might make believers out of some in what it is trying to say. What did Ben Franklin once say or write ?
You can fool most of the people some of the time, even if some
of the time is 2012 years ? If the maker of this film can fool only one million people out of 7 billion, just imagine the money he or she might make ? :-O

I belive to. well since the government has them captured why don’t they do something productive like to teach them English. then we can make friends with them. and find out all the other things that are in the ocean that we don’t know about. if they look like humans they probably are smart like we are. if we educate them. they can educate us.

I believe u so much I know I’m only 14 but after watching the show just a few min. ago wow it seems so real now that I see that image I don’t know y but I cry lol its weird but I don’t care its a very interesting thing to say about mermaids but like I said I believe totally 🙂

  53. Reagan Salstrom   October 13, 2012 at 8:02 pm

I, 4 1, totally believe u. I agree w/ Debbie, “just because u haven’t cn them doesn’t mean they aren’t real” and it defiantly doesn’t mean u have to drop a pile of, well, stuff on people just because they’re not afraid to believe! And, there is proof they exist. Up there. There is no CGI in that video. And in the actual episode on TV, they show the dimamics of the skull, and how the sound waves travel through water. Beat that!

    • Leo Polishchuk   July 30, 2012 at 11:02 am

There is a phenomenon of neoteny. Ambistoma be many generations to breed the fish, without completing metamorphosis. But sometimes it goes to the land and becomes an adult salamander. Similarly, the coelacanth! Once upon a time in Devon, Carbone, etc. it was such a creature – stegocephalia. He also had in the ontogeny of metamorphosis: coelacanth-ihtiostega-stegocephalia. This was a big fauna, large and small creatures, most were like crocodiles, but apparently, there were beautiful, smart … – A mermaid! Now is also a coelacanth, but they do not complete metamorphosis. Perhaps this is also neoteny? But sometimes develops a mermaid!? It is very rare …

IDK LOOKS TO PERFECT LIKE HIS FACE POP OUT RIGHT WHEN THE “USC” “Unidentified Sea Creature” did and looks like someone made it like video game sht like to fake but maybe its real or there is a real one deep in the sea…

  65. Joshua lee   July 17, 2012 at 4:17 am

You can’t refute that fact each culture ( Chinese Vikings and Spanish) had encounter mermaids before trading with each other. granted some of it was cgi but there’s been a truth if of for thousands of years. But it could be true that mermaids are out there, seeing how just found a new spieces of whales this year and we only explored about 10% of the ocean that consumers about70% of the world. Just Saying

  66. Mark S. Schroeder   July 16, 2012 at 11:49 pm

I have always thought that there was an Intelligent aquatic species living deep in the oceans. The oceans cover most of the earth’s surface. The ocean’s have hardly been explored, so it’s pretty much an unknown and undiscovered territory. And, there’s plenty of room for an entire intelligent life form to have been living under the ocean’s surface since the beginning of life without ever having exposed themselves to the human beings top side. There is so much we do not know. Recorded history and exploration is still in its infancy with so much yet to be uncovered and discovered. The carvings and drawings of Mermaids that have been found on the earliest ships worldwide and all throughout history tell a common story of a very familiar looking life form that should not be ignored. Why haven’t we found them? Because hardly anyone has been looking for them. Just because we don’t see something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

  67. Chris J.   July 16, 2012 at 11:47 pm

I am truly amazed at how many poor foolish people there are in this world so eager to beleive anything thats tossed out there in front of them. Is life really that meaningless for you that you would so willingly rank yourselves a mere animals? We are so much more than that. Yes the government lies…look who’s in office. The military might well be using sonar weapons that adversely affects Marine Life. But mermaids do not exist, nor have they ever. You can pretend to be an evolved monkey who beleives in fairy tales and myths, but I was created in the image of God. Now…let the indignant outrage and hate begin. LOL. Oh yeah…us “Fish People” (not mermaids, mind you) get to live forever whereas monkeys live short meaningless lives and cease to exist (at least thats what you think).

    • Fernando Valentine   July 18, 2012 at 8:32 pm

You start you response by saying how foolish people look to believe in things to escape their meaningless lives, then close your response by saying you were made in the image of God. Although I believe in something greater, many would call you foolish for your belief in an invisible being you have never met. Your ego seems to stand in your way of true knowledge. First, you being a human, are indeed an animal, no different or important to the universe than the squirrels running along roads. Image of God? whats with all the other animals, who made them? Get over yourself, humans have been on this planet for only such a small piece of time, and will probably be long gone while other life forms continue to inhabit this world. Are mermaids real? not sure, but I’m smart enough not to rule out the possibility, after all it may be crazy to think of something human-like living under the sea using spears, but then again, here I am, a collection of billions of atoms, typing on a machine made from billions of atoms, sending it to something else made from billions of atoms.

    • titansfanvol   July 19, 2012 at 7:37 pm

Cracks me up that there are so many people on this thread comparing this to the Tooth Fairy, etc. The deepest part of the Pacific ocean is 7 miles…MILES deep. They find new species of aquatic animals EVERYDAY. How can you possibly no that these things don’t exist? We know more about the surface of the moon than we do about our own oceans. We know, from what I have read and heard from scientists, about 3% of the ocean and what is in it. The beaching of mammals (dolphins, whales) only started happening after the Navy started testing SONAR. Bottom line. Doubt if you want, but it just makes you look unintelligent and uninformed.

    • AmBurr   July 21, 2012 at 10:11 am

Here’s my opinion: First and foremost GOD is GOOD! 😀 Let me sum up what I derived from the words of the Bible! GOD created ADAM in HIS image, and Eve from Adam’s rib… Adam had Cain and Abel before they had more chidren CAIN killed Abel and was cast off earth (dry land) into the Land of NOD (water) where he took a wife; then Seth was born and Eve was happy for Abel was dead and Cain had killed him so she lost both her kids! Adam and Eve’s firstborn were not of any other flesh other than man… GOD became upset because the Sons of God (aka pure men) were finding the daughters of Men (aka mixed with other flesh) fair and choosing them for wives over the daughters of Adam and Eve. They had corrupt GOD’S ways with Beastality and which is why GOD chose to get rid of all that he was looking upon (which was everything on DRY LAND) Except NOAH and his family and clean and unclean beast were referring to their true bloodline vs inbred; Hope you are following and this is making sense… Noah dwelt on LAND because LaMech had Noah with his wife that was on LAND and not the wife in the water.. Through his wife he learned of Cain’s actions because Cain’s actions were known on Land very well… This is why EVOLUTION happened…

I am a science teacher and do believe in the aquatic ape theory about evolution. I hope this fictional piece doesn’t move the aquatic ape theory even further into the range of silliness. Why would somebody as ignorant and insufficiently equipped as you even consider engaging in an activity that involves reading, much less independent thought? What do people get out of flaunting their stupidity and throwing stones at the people who dare to dream or believe the impossible? Do I think the mermaids movie was real? Not entirely. One thing I have noticed however is that in all the official disclaimers and news reports discussing the authenticity of the scientists and supposed physical evidence, not a single mention of the intricately crafted bone spears was made to discredit their existence. Maybe thats because they have been documented enough to fall into public domain and the greater community cannot deny them. Maybe so much of this film was faked because so much physical evidence actually was confiscated, I must admit the two main scientists seemed to exhibit genuine recall and emotions where the other scientists did not. Maybe they brought in actors to portray scientists who wanted to protect their professional integrity and didn’t have the courage to appear on film? And furthermore, who are any of us to say our oceans don’t hide an intelligent sentient culture? Most of you poor ignorant bastards don’t even know whats growing inside of your toilet bowl, let alone what exists outside your narrow scope of understanding. But what do I know? I’m just a guy who reads books and uses big words. I just wish humans would evolve a little.

        • GM   July 19, 2012 at 11:42 pm

You tell ’em Nick. It never ceases to amaze me the number of people that one might call “detractors.” Some people just can’t think outside the box. Where would this world be if not for dreamers and forward thinkers. All the original ideas and thoughts in this world were imagined by these types of individuals. Now most people would say that there are no original ideas left to be discovered, and that may very well be true, but that is no reason to stop one’s imagination and creative inner self, nor should it be a venue for harsh criticism. Enjoy!

      • titansfanvol   July 19, 2012 at 7:38 pm

I beleave it for sure our government lies to us on a daily bases. The govt deciedes what we should no and what should be hiden from the public. I for one am sick of it we dont need someone decieding things for me! We have been lied to our whole lives it’s time for it to stop. people should no the truth after all our tax dollars pay for everything they find out. They call America a free country but we are controlled like everyone else

    • Trish   July 16, 2012 at 6:58 pm

You folks do realize that this movie was a work of fiction. That the “doctors” were actors (look it up) and that no creature was actually found, right? At the end of the film, it even states that it is fiction–yes, the sonar stuff is true. What next? The Lock Ness Monster?

      • Fernando Valentine   July 18, 2012 at 8:38 pm

Didnt see that part, but got the feeling that this was the case after realizing all the “scientists” in it were fairly attractive, particularly the women

      • titansfanvol   July 19, 2012 at 7:40 pm

Again, Trish, we know more about the surface of the moon than we know about what lives in the ocean. We know about 3% of what is down there. Look it up. The Marianna’s trench is 7 miles deep. You think you know what is down there? I kind of doubt that.

      • Sarah   July 23, 2012 at 12:57 pm

People keep saying the scientists in this film are actors… No, during the “re-enactments” they are actors. During the actual “interviews” they are the actual scientists who worked for NOAA and the one who worked at the University of Cape Town… If you are going to refute something, at least get your facts straight, since you are saying that someone else didn’t…

  72. Tracy   July 16, 2012 at 6:34 am

I’m willing to accept the possibility of their existance but that willingness has nothing to do with this entertaining work of FICTION. Do your research, animal planet made the admission BEFORE it was aired that it was a work of fiction loosly based on two facts. Oh, diverdownie, this is to you. cheers! Oh the sweet taste of rebuttal.

Really? Is that supposed to be commen sense? If you watched the program you would see that the government was willing to go to any extent to cover up the concrete mermaid findings. So keeping that in mind if the discovery channel claimed the mermaid body or the boys video to be concrete evidence or fact do you really think it would have ever made it on the air? Don’t you find it strange that all they were allowed to claim as “fact” was the evidence that was publicly released (the unidentified sounds) before the government started seizing all evidence?

    • Leo Polishchuk   July 16, 2012 at 9:53 am

Sumerian Nephilim: “In the first year came from the Red Sea (Gulf), in a place that near Babylon (from the author: that Schumer), a terrible creature by the name” Oan ” and as Apollodorus tells the body it was all fishy, ??and out of … fish heads, grew another head, and likewise human legs have grown close to the fish’s tail. Voice as he was human. Picture it, and even now remains. That being said, he conducted a few days among the people, without taking any food, and taught people to read, and mathematics, and ownership of all sorts of arts, taught to live in cities, to found temples, to establish laws and geometry taught and shown how to collect grains and fruits, and generally taught everything that relates to the cultural life. Since that time nothing more has not been invented. With the sun being so, Oan, dived back into the sea, and spent the nights in the depths. Because it was an amphibian.” http://www.iisusbog.com/fallen2.htm#Nefilim

    • titansfanvol   July 19, 2012 at 7:45 pm

Thanks Tracy…I realize that the show was fictional in nature…but what I am saying is we don’t know…do you? Do you know every species of animal on the planet? Did you know that pluto has more moons than one? Open your minds please.

Mermaids, Uhm don’t let sea world find out about this!, sometime in our future will be the next big thing in aquarium around sea world, and don’t forget “Vegas” too!.

    • Ethan   July 16, 2012 at 2:50 pm

Do none of you understand that they have lasted this long because they hide. If we go looking for them we can further destroy their culture and where they live driving them to extinction. These `mermaids` are people just like you and me but have taken a different path in evolution.

      • Kate   July 18, 2012 at 10:59 pm

Navy to deafen 15,900 whales and dolphins and kill 1,800 more
According to U.S. Navy estimates, the use of high frequency underwater sound for testing in Hawaii, the California and Atlantic Coasts, and the Gulf of Mexico will deafen more than 15,900 whales and dolphins and kill 1,800 more over the next 5 years. Whales and dolphins depend on sound to navigate and live. Your signature and comment could stop this Naval program, potentially saving the lives of these ocean creatures.
That’s why I signed a petition to U.S. Navy, which says:
“Stop the killing of 1,800 whales and dolphins and the deafening of 15,900 more by ceasing the operation of the Navy’s underwater sound system in the Hawaiian Islands, the California and Atlantic Coasts, and the Gulf of Mexico.”
Will you sign this petition? Click here:

  75. Caleb   July 16, 2012 at 2:52 am

Now most of this was done by cgi obviously. they may have substantial proof and they may even exsist. Sure. But I do believe that society is not humane enough to coexist with people of another species wether it be mermaids or aliens. If society could our current government couldn’t. We are just not ready. People… other humans get shunned for being different. I could only imagine what would happen with other humanoids. Now as for evolution I am a full blown Christian. My grandfather was a pastor so I know a good share of the bible. BUT Christians these days are not open minded. Who’s not to say the big bang was God’s way of creation. Who’s to say 1 day for god is trillions for us. Time was created after him. The bible isn’t everything. There are things god hasn’t told us. Along with free will he gave us the ability to discover new things. All I have to say is study the bible hard but realize god hadbt told us nearly everything.

    • rochell   July 16, 2012 at 4:15 am

to me i’m more upset that the navy was harming any sealife on such a great scale with sonar testing. seeing all those whales beached because of the navy is very sad. i really do not care if mermaids exist. if that many whales are being harmed in testing it’s not right.

    • Jess   July 20, 2012 at 12:05 am

It is just as unfair to steriotypes all christians one way as it is to make general claims about all black people, white people, asians, muslims…ect. I 100% believe in God and that I am forgiven because of the sacrifice of Jesus. It is not my place to judge anyone, and I certainly don’t claim to know everything. I believe in the Bible. I agree with what a few of you said…who is to say God didn’t create the world to evolve because he gave us free will. Free will exists in this world and everything in it. I am personally not inclined to believe mermaids exist as a human type species because we as humans were created in his image but I don’t doubt that there are tons of animal species we haven’t discovered yet. I wish other Christians wouldn’t come in spewing insults at people because it’s so off putting and it gives us a bad rep. I am better or smarter than noone but I do believe in Jesus without doubt.

  76. Leo Polishchuk   July 13, 2012 at 12:40 pm

Human embryo has the rudiments of the caudal fin and gills. It remains of their ancestors – the mermaids! So, mermaids have existed in the Cambrian or the Silurian, it is our direct ancestors. http://spacenoology.agro.name/?page_id=5640

    • jeff h   July 13, 2012 at 3:18 pm

We also have tails and DNA similar to pigs. Animal planet presents pigmen: a body found. And for the sillies out there its a vestigial tail in addition to legs. Wait… two legs two arms a tail and a propensity for violence … the aliens movies are right and we must be related!

    • Leo Polishchuk   July 16, 2012 at 7:42 am

Biology has a big problem. In biology is incorporated the religion. It is so-called “theory of evolution from the original replicator to Homo sapiens.” This religion with the administrative method introduced in science and is considered to be “the only alternative to creationism.” It’s a lie, of course! There is another alternative: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=ru&sl=ru&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fspacenoology.agro.name%2F

    • Leo Polishchuk   July 16, 2012 at 7:52 am

Human embryo at an early stage has gills, caudal fin … But he can not use them. This is because genetic technology support was lost when the larva was in the placenta. Or in the egg. Macro-de-evolution is irreversible! But now, the frogs have a larva with gills and tail fin! They are versatile us. A Turbellaria, some species of which contemporaries and now have eyes with lenses, the brain is orthogonal to type, the organ of equilibrium, etc., they are active predators! – Some Turbellaria are also free-living Müller’s larva! Hence, their ancestors – in Vendian! They still have more versatile! Give Turbellaria such a trifle as a skeleton – and it is no easier to us.

So, Turbellaria in Vendian – a super-versatile creature. And before Turbellaria? Myxomycetes! According to the logic – even more versatile!

      • Gwydion Frost   July 16, 2012 at 3:14 pm

        Macro “de”evolution IS possible.

        • Leo Polishchuk   July 17, 2012 at 9:59 am

Where the path of synthesis of ascorbic acid and other “vitamins” and essential amino acids?
Where is the absolute regeneration, as in the Turbellaria?
Where are the gills? Where electric organs?
People – the victim of macro-de-evolution. And all of the current fauna – as well. Our ancestors were intelligent and versatile half-billion years ago.
          So, I have argued!

why is it so hard to believe in something bigger than ourselves? i dont know if these creatures do exsist or if they became extinct along with the dinosaurs. i do know this, everything we as humans touch , we destroy! we just can not leave well enough alone! we have to know , we have to touch, we have to see. we do not belong in the ocean period! if god wanted us there , he would have givin us gills! but yet we invade that world everyday, it isnt ours, the ocean belongs to the marine life, NOT HUMANS!
the ocean is so vast, we will NEVER know all the secrets it holds, somewhere deep inside of me i do want to belive that mermaids exsist, how wonderful would that be, does this mean you have to believe in aliens? well its a big universe it would be very arrogant to think we were the only ones!

  80. Damize   June 17, 2012 at 2:43 pm

I just want to say, that at the end of the video, it tells you that the Sonar stuff and “The Bloop” are real, and then it says that everything else is a work of fiction…

Whether or not a lot of it is true, the part that we’re really suppose to take out of it, other than the amazing evolution lesson, is what the Scientist says

If they are out there, he hopes they remain hidden, because humans have never done well co-existing with other humanoids…

I agree…I’m pretty sure there would be a crap ton that would go down if they were found. I do believe they exist, why would so many cultures with no contact with one another come up with such similar stories even into the 19th century if they weren’t real? There are a lot of things that all cultures seem to agree exist…makes you wonder, did we kill them off already without knowing (or even intentionally)? Or did they go into hiding because of something we did, possibly our advances?

    • Leela   June 18, 2012 at 4:31 am

I do agree with you on the last part, because almost all of the country on the world have the history of mermaid with different name, and beside it not like the president of those day side up with each other and said “Hey, let make a story out of mermaid to make the citizens believe in them for fun” that would be dumbs, and I do agree that the human must have done something in the past to make them go hide, if we didn’t, we already see them in the beach everywhere we go, and the mermaid have emotion too you know, they do care for each other and warn them about dangerous, although it make be bad if we catch them ^_^”

  81. Shadow   June 15, 2012 at 6:51 pm

I will be honest after I found out about the falsified videos and evidence I was mad. Now looking into other areas of evidence such as the spears and human anatomy and I found that there looks to be more than sufficient evidence to support their existance.

May i give some insight in this. I believe mermaids are real. And about the manatees being mermaids they live in tropical areas and mermaids have been sotted in cold temperture type of water like in place such as Europe, Holand, Korea, Japan etc… So even if you guys dont believ in mermaids they exist no matter how much you say they dont. To be honest your ingnorance amuses me.

  83. Truth Purveyor   June 8, 2012 at 1:59 pm

If mermaids exist George W. Bush has an IQ that is higher than the assessment of 90 (near moron) and Monica Lewinsky will become President after a sex change and have sex with a female intern who will keep the dress and after lengthy hearing be impeached.

  84. David   June 4, 2012 at 12:09 am

For those that believe the Animal Planet movie is real: I have some property to sell you. Trust me, it is a good buy. Also, I have evidence that the Blair Witch Project is real, and that Joaquin Phoenix retired from acting to become a gangster rapper. Thank you and goodnight.

  85. Fas   June 3, 2012 at 4:27 pm

I watched Mermaids: The Body Found documentary film on http://topdocumentarystream.com/mermaids-the-body-found/ though its based on fiction but explained with the actual theory of evolution. Interesting film

  86. dubs   June 2, 2012 at 12:47 pm

I do not deny the slim possibility that these creatures could be real or could have existed at some point along the line of evolution; nor do I deny the slim possibility of other mythical creatures of legend(bigfoot, champ, nessy, God, etc). There is as little evidence of the existence of these creatures as there is proof.

    For community review:

IMDB listing of the mockumentary, these ‘scientists’ are actors.

Read down, if you will, and you will find this:

‘The film is science fiction, using science as a springboard into imagination and centering the story on the following real-world events:

•In the early 1990s, the US Navy began a series of covert sonar tests, which were linked to mass die-offs of whales, which washed up on beaches throughout the world. For years, the Navy denied they were responsible for these beachings.

•In 1997, scientists at the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recorded a mysterious sound (called “The Bloop”) in the deep Pacific, which was thought to be organic in nature. It has never been identified.

    These are facts.’

Given that admission, the one right there(^) it goes without saying that anything in this show beyond those two nuggets of knowledge is farce.

I am completely baffled that this conversation is still going on, though simultaneously pleased that it has continued so long. I am having way to much fun with this, I argue for a living but generally when people debate, they debate points of view, not lofty theories and assumptions based not on fact but loosely constructed extrapolations.

    • Aksia   June 30, 2012 at 11:22 pm

You forgot about the fairy tale theory of evolution and atheism. No physical or observable evidences for them either. Good day.

      • Philip   July 14, 2012 at 11:21 pm

evolution is real and it’s been proven thousands of species of animals have evolved over tens of millions of years….it’s just that your simplistic and one sided mind cannot grasp any concept outside of what the bible tells you….talk about one-sided thinking….it’s obtuse and just plain singular thinking of people like yourself that have plagued scientist for years…..god you people are just the epitome of short sightedness…

        • Ally   September 3, 2012 at 6:15 am

People should just respect what other believe in and not call them stupid or retarded. Im just sick of people calling Christians who base their life on the Bible idiots. You believe in evolution and I dont. So? Lets not judge.

Anyway, this whole topic is interesting. I cant believe Im just hearing about this now. All the evidence is somewhat convincing, but, wow, I just cant seem to grasp the concept that something like that is lurking in the ocean. Who knew?

Although, I still believe that God created humans that looks exactly like us before and did not evolve. This whole mermaid thing is a little far fetched to me. Just one mans opinion thats not to be judged.

I watched it with some hesitation but what I find so funny about some of the doubters is that for thousands of years people have believed in stories in the Bible that are almost laughable and hardly possible…and yet there is actually evidence of this mammal/fish and there are so many people calling it ‘ridiculous’ or like Dubs…who posted several times, calling names etc. There is more evidence to say that there are these creatures than there are not and this evidence has been around for thousands of years. Many people, fisherman, etc. claimed to have seen them. Even Christopher Columbus, who by the way was trying to prove that the earth was round and not FLAT which was a belief for a long time. We know more about the surface of the moon than we do about our oceans ON OUR OWN PLANET…also, if one thinks about the Universe, how large it is and how magnificant it is, how can anyone even speak to whether or not it’s true? I do not trust the Government to tell the truth, especially with regards to something like this. Why would they want to admit to killing whales and dolphins? And if it is true they certainly wouldn’t let the public know because it would cause such an uproar. Anyway, there is more evidence than not and I believe it is possible. The most important thing, as many of you have said, is that the military STOP THE SONAR testing. We know FOR A FACT, that it is killing mammals in the oceans. If the mammals go, then we go. Peace.

    • diverdown1   June 1, 2012 at 8:18 pm

I just realized I didn’t finish my thought about Christopher Columbus. He was said to have seen mermaids on his historic voyage. Remember, the Queen of Spain and most others thought the earth was flat. That was not true. The earth is round and it is in the middle of the galaxy, one of millions of galaxies in the universe. It is funny to me that anyone can say anything is ridiculous when, honestly, we really don’t know how we got here, where we came from, where the universe came from, etc…DUBS, this is to you.

      • dubs   June 2, 2012 at 4:10 am

diverdowns, stop having downs. If you read my entire post you would realize that I am willing to accept the possibility of merfolk. When you clearly missed is that my point of view is that those who take this mockumentary as fact are the dolts. Also, you seem to be at odds with a few of the other ‘believers’ here in that you are willing to accept that in our infinite universe anything is possible. There are those who would say mermaids are more likely than aliens, despite the fact that an alien can simple be a microbe in a pool of juice on a far away planet. Learn to analyze an entire statement before throwing base comments out there. Again, if you missed it, I’m willing to accept the possibility of their existance but that willingness has nothing to do with this entertaining work of FICTION. Do your research, animal planet made the admission BEFORE it was aired that it was a work of fiction loosly based on two facts. Oh, diverdownie, this is to you. cheers! 🙂 Oh the sweet taste of rebuttal.

        • dubs   June 2, 2012 at 4:11 am

Oh snap, someone has the same opinion as I and still feels the need to adversarial and belligerent. This work of fiction is proof of nothing, and to be so certain the exist is just as ignorant as being certain they do not. You miss the point.

        • diverdown1   June 4, 2012 at 7:50 pm

I appreciate your rebuttal and agree that I flew off before reading it twice…which I should have done. I just get frustrated because I hear so many people deny things and then the next thing out of their mouth has something to do with the Bible or something religious in nature, where there is absolutely no proof…burning bushes, dead people coming back and ascending to heaven…that sort of thing. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a good debate. Thank you.

          • ssmcivilian   June 17, 2012 at 4:25 pm

dubs is just an idiot and a common sheep. Don’t waste your time in replying to his kind. Believe me I’ve wasted precious time in trying. Just let him exist as he is, ignorance is bliss, for his sake that is.

  88. Vivian   June 1, 2012 at 5:52 pm

I agree with with Mr. Paul Robertson. Humans would not be able to coexist with what he is calling a mermaid. Humans have a way of destroying most animals in the ecosystem that’s why we have so many endangered animal species. Look what we are doing with the giant squid. Not long ago we were not sure if they existed. Now we are having problems with people over fishing for them.
I believe we just need to leave this new specie alone so that it may not become wiped out. Like Mr. Robertson said, “the only way this specie has been able to thrive is for one reason, they know how to hide”. No telling how many of this specie the government has covered up. I’m sure these cover-ups occur is because it was the naval sonar testing that beached this animal along with the whales, which unfortunately seems to be happening in waters near other countries. If the general population of U.S. citizens new that this naval sonar testing is not only responsible for the beaching of whales but also a possible link to our own human evolution there would be a tremendous uproar against the government. I am all for ceasing naval sonar testing in waters where whales and dolphins migrate, feed and birth there young.

    • dubs   June 2, 2012 at 4:16 am

A: ‘Dr. Paul Robertson’ does not exist, that was an actor in a fictitious drama.
B: I highly doubt the general population would have an ‘uproar’ against the government knowing the beached whales were allegedly tied to sonar testing. Case-in-point, there was no bank run during the recession, even at its worst. There are far less bleeding hearts out there than you think. Furthermore who care if even 30% of the US population would contest that practice, we are a fraction of the population of the world. The navy really has nothing better to do than deny the existance of mermaids? Comspiracy theory less please.

  89. emily ragudo chaidez   June 1, 2012 at 4:19 pm

yes i believe and i agree why do so much and so much that they had accomplished…anything can get covered up……there was so much to think about

  90. Benny T   June 1, 2012 at 2:34 am

okay my question well my first question any way has any seen mermaids the body found and if you have good cause that should answer your first question right there my question why hasn’t any who try to go looking for our miss relatives to but a stop to the doubt of their existence we know they exists but we need more prof

    • Chrissy   June 1, 2012 at 5:16 am

remember all the sittings off CA. people said serpent like, or like a curve of tire humps, something like that. What if they have been sighted by us all this time. Even in ME and in MA. for hundreds of years. All those ships logs, were all the sailors crazy. Those people on the show looked heartbroken. I feel bad for them, just now realizing our government is only out for its self and never plays fare or admits when they are wrong. To those that spoke up and put on the show I say thank you so much and I am so sorry for what you went through and still are going through.

      • dubs   June 2, 2012 at 4:19 am

Those heartbroken people on the show were actors, they make a living out of looking heartbroke. Also, when talking about the ‘evidence’ being taken there was not even a flash of anger across any of their faces. Would you not at least exhibit a tid bit of frustration if 5 years of your work had been taken from your hands and destroyed? I would, and I refuse to believe the dramatic syntax was a substitute.

        • sherry believes   July 19, 2012 at 2:20 am

@dubs..if you don’t believe, then what brings you here? Go mind your own business. Forget about ever seeing the documentary. Some of us are open-minded…let us be. The navy needs to stop the testing..bottom line. The narriators of the program admitted some fiction was thrown in there. The rest of it is believable. It was amazing. Just leave it alone. Get off the web-site and go agitate someone else.

    • dubs   June 2, 2012 at 4:53 am

You cannot ‘know’ and still have a lack of proof; you can only hypothesize. Therefore the may not exist, then again they may. To be certain of the uncertain is a terrible path to take. Faith is a myth, to believe is folly, to know is the right way to go but can only be done so with proof, not the need for more proof. Thats just counterintuitive. This show is not proof, it is fiction performed by actors and admittedly so by animal planet.

      • dskancer   June 14, 2012 at 11:13 am

dubs, the “paintings” and drawings on cave walls that date back far into time showed aliens, mermaids and more. All along history people have seen and recorded events. The Bible accurately wrote events long before they happened.
Why is it that you seem to(want)to be the ultimate spokeman on what is or is not? If you are the ONE that really holds all the “other” proof then by all means present it to the public and stop being a sad anti-everything little dweep.

  91. g m voeth   May 31, 2012 at 3:05 pm

The real Evidence would lie in the communications which seems to have been intercepted. But a WARNING should go with this. If the communications were done by the US Military, you might be risking your life to decode the intelligence residing within the intercepted carrier waves. I have heard from special forces like peoples that playing with communications is one of the quickest ways to loose your life prematurely. That spectrogram looks very much to me like either a fabrication or a short communications bleep, possibly from a submarine. Nationality unknown.

    • Chrissy   June 1, 2012 at 5:37 am

when my dad retired from the military he made sure I knew from many stories he told, keep your eye on the uniform, it’s all about power and control and they see everyone and everything as expendable to get and keep it. Do you really believe the big wigs tell the peons the truth?Just because you worked for them doesn’t mean you know anything. No our government always does whats best for it’s people. They would never lie to us. ohhh please. How much of our tax dollars went to this sonar weapon? Do we have a vote on this, what weapons we want here? What if your kid was in the water when this happens?Or saw it? What right do they have to threaten families, children? Why do we let them?

  92. Leah   May 31, 2012 at 5:02 am

Being an author of fiction stories, normally my opinon of the unknown isn’t taken seriously; however, here I have to say I didn’t believe this at first. My best friend and I recorded the show, so we could see if it was corny and fake. After watching about twenty minutes of it, we were attached and I do say, I believe this story to be true.
The government does control a lot, but with somebody like Obama in the whitehouse, we could find out a lot that we never knew about before; MERMAIDS!
I for one loved the aspect of the story, and hope to see more. But! Look, not touch! Let the mermaids be.

    • dubs   June 2, 2012 at 4:23 am

Google ‘animal planet mermaids’ and you will find their press release before the show hit the air stating this is a work of fiction. Are they part of the government cover-up to hide the existance of mermaids? If so how can you believe a word of a clearly compromised institution. The theory of conspiracy is transitive.

  93. lola   May 31, 2012 at 10:18 am

i do belive that there real they have do much evidence about them…but then again only god knows whats out there and the creatures he has created

    • dubs   June 2, 2012 at 4:21 am

So I’m guessing you are buying into this work of fiction. Based on that you are buying into the thery of the aquatic ape. Based on that you are buying into the theory of evolution. Are you a weekend christian? Its all or nothing when it comes to matters of faith; especially when you want to refer to things being ‘created’ by Him.

  94. morimoto2   May 30, 2012 at 4:03 pm

Even if there were solid evidence, it would never see the light of day if governments have anything to do with it. It is in the best interest of the church to keep people in the dark. It is their way of maintaining control.

    • stump Pass   June 1, 2012 at 2:09 am

That certainly seems to be the case. We are persuaded to believe obvious lies every day. The social stigma for thinking on your own is powerful. The forces you encounter if you get out of line are more than one can deal with. Like the inquisition, it’s easier to say you believe whatever they want you to believe.

    • diverdown1   June 1, 2012 at 8:19 pm

I agree morimoto2. Just look at the catholic church and how they took many books out of the Bible for that very reason. It would have caused a major uproar. Sadly, you are correct.

      • dubs   June 2, 2012 at 4:27 am

We live in a secular society, the church has nothing to do with it. Furthermore if these creatures exist, and have sightings across the world, there are plenty of governements that align themselves with religeons that would love to acknowledge the existance of them. Hindu and Buddhism specifically. More ‘sightings’ have taken place off the coasts of the indian ocean and indonesian islands than anywhere else. Do you really believe that if those governments could confirm their existance it would not make it back to American ears? Be less US-centric and become a world citizen in the 21st century.

  95. Valerie   May 30, 2012 at 2:59 pm

The possibility of mermaids is pretty damn certain! There’s just too much stuff in this world that we cannot explain and maybe there’s a reason why they have never been seen! if you think about it, what if the ocean was completely drained out?! Lol sounds silly but then and only then would man see just what and how many creatures that haven’t been identified! What about the mysterious city of Atlantis?! I believe there is such a place. I love the view of the ocean but I never interfere! Too many things in there and its not my place. I say if there are mermaids I hope they never really be discovered! Man would just have a field day and probably display them in some crazy aquarium or better yet train them like they do with orcas at seaworld!!

    • dubs   June 2, 2012 at 4:30 am

Given there is ZERO hard evidence of the existance of merfolk it is ignorant to say it is certain they exist just as ignorant as it is to say it is certain they do not. If it comes to a matter of faith then that is up to you, though if there is no proof you cannot say it is real. If you cannot say it is real you also cannot say it is not real because there is very likely not proof of their nonexistance. This mockumentary proves nothing.

  96. reenmom   May 30, 2012 at 1:08 pm

Legends have continually been found to have a basis in fact. There have been countless sailor’s stories regarding the giant octopus, which were generally considered as exaggerated fish tales until a recent discovery of a giant octopus. I suggest that one should not dismiss possibilities just because they do not possess the physical evidence.

    • dubs   May 30, 2012 at 1:16 pm

To suggest that they do not exist for lack of physical evidence is as foolish as accepting this work of fiction as physical evidence. Personally that is my reasoning for being agnostic, for what its worth. There is no physical evidence of a God, though it is equally as ignorant to suggest there is no possibility for a ‘presence.’ Cynicism is a gift.

      • erik   July 6, 2012 at 11:54 pm

agnostic, sorry but NO…you my nonfriend are an athiest being an agnostic is to be enlightened.agnostism is different sect. of the christian church.they believe woman are equal to men in the church they also believe we dont need a church nor priest to find god.that god is in us,and that we are all gods in are own right.if you have faith in a anthropocentric god,but yet think its not possible for mermaids.or they were all actors, the real actors are the gov-religons that believe in a all powerful god, weres your proof there agod whom has no control in life nor after life.i can kinda put my head around a god that lets evil run rampit on earth, but what about the evil spirits that terrorize the living..weres god there free reign in the after life too huh.calling yourself a agnostic means to have a opened mind…agnostics were shunned from the church becaused they stepped out of the box..you my nonfriend are stuck in abox…..

    • Aaero   June 1, 2012 at 2:42 am

Legends usually do exist for a reason. The video sounds fishy (excuse the non-mammalian pun!)but this is beside the point that the unknown exists and it always will. It may not be what we think but then again, we have no idea. Some of the beings washed up from the depths are unidentified. The unknown happens everyday. If we haven’t seen it, it does not mean it does not exist. We just don’t know everything – fortunately! It’s human nature to assume we know everything.

  97. Mel   May 30, 2012 at 8:51 am

I think mermaids are real. I cannot say that this doc(moc)umentary has proved it for me. It’s just something that I have always believed was out there. I find the existence of mermaids far more believable than that of aliens. It is also easy to believe that humans and their brash nature would wipe out the mermaids. I personally could live peacefully with mermaids, I know that others cannot. Just look at what they did to the Native Americans and that was only 200 hundred years ago. I’m willing to bet the government would wipe out the mermaids and still deny they ever existed.

    • Chrstina   May 30, 2012 at 5:27 pm

I would deffently agree with Mel. I think people are used to being top dog above all other animals and just the thought of any other kind of human life freaks most out. the goverment would hide things like this and rid of it. If the gov. knew there was a huge metor heading straight towards earth do you really think they would let us know so our last minuets of life would be caotic? there’s so much stuff just here on earth we have no idea about and maybe we souldn’t.

    • mella   June 1, 2012 at 2:17 am

And after I had dinner with you’re mom last night I’m not so sure bigfoot doesn’t exist either.

  98. lizzy   May 30, 2012 at 7:17 am

okay. Scientists will always be finding out new things. Every day there’s something new to be learned. so yes i think it could be possible. But we’ll never know till we see. One more thing, now a days technology sucks! you can do just about anything with technology….so who the f*** knows!..

    • Polly   May 30, 2012 at 8:08 am

We are learning new things all of the time, and it is awesome…but your language insults the nature of the science….

  99. Craig Hastings   May 30, 2012 at 6:24 am

This documentary could have been more readily excepted by viewers had the producers not immediately referred to these mysterious creatures as “mermaids”. Another species of a sea mammal may indeed exsist and may very well have been discovered. To believe scientists and researchers have discovered all there is to discover in our oceans depths is the most unbelievable assessment one could make. I don’t except the “apes to water” theory depicted here. If this is an undiscovered species it surley evolved much like dolphins, whales, sharks, etc. What I most believe now after seeing this film is that “man” is probably most responsible for the beaching of countless whales with our all important quest for the most powerful weapon. Deep sea sonar blasts of military orgin are logical explainations for disorientation of sea creatures that reley on this very science to guide them on their way each day. Mass destruction by sound is nothing new to any of us if you think about it. If I can break glass with a very little sound wave why couldn’t I crack the hull of an iron ship with a very large one? This is one weapon I’d want to be the first on the block to own.

  100. Someone with a kept secret   May 30, 2012 at 6:23 am

I hope someone rich! Can help and feel how I and others feel for these ocean creatures…. As for the government and whatever else out there hurting or covering up or experimenting/ torturing or hunting them out! Please stop! And let Nature be. Or whatever it is that brought them. Our world is polluted with all sorts of messed up things and now the ocean is dealing with our crap as well. No wonder we get punished with massive Tsunami and Hurricanes n Tornadoes and earthquakes etc! Because we just don’t stop f***ing around and poking our noses where we dont belong…. Whatever man!!! You f***ed up many times already now just STOP!!! Enough is enough!!!! Don’t bring more cruelty to our world or theirs! Peace man!!!!

  101. clinton towery   May 30, 2012 at 5:52 am

There is a reason why one of these have not been found dead….its the same reason no one ever found a dead Bigfoot, THEY DON’T EXIST!

    • Jonathan   May 30, 2012 at 7:31 am

and thats why were still finding new species everyday you ignorant f***

      • geraldine pietronico   May 30, 2012 at 11:13 am

🙂 you don’t see air. i guess that don’t exist either!

      • melissa   July 16, 2012 at 5:31 am

Now! Now! There will always be nah sayers. Mans arrogance and fear is why he is moving so slowly on the evolutionary scale. We must be patient for some to catch up with us more open minded folks.

    • Christina   May 30, 2012 at 5:34 pm

you must not really realize how huge this planet is. we have hundreds and thousands of acres of land that we don’t have anyone messing with. if there are very few big foots in the woods of north america or mermaids n the oceans its very very possible they can hide and not be found! if a big foot died so to say you think a person would find it before coyotes? if a mermaid died do u think it would float to the top before a shark swallowed it? its like a needle in a hay stack. just think about it

    • Chrissy   June 1, 2012 at 4:51 am

I have bears in my yard all the time and see moose every where. I spend so much time in the woods every where but in all my years I have only found one moose bone at the bottom of a stream where the mice and others couldn’t get it. How dare you say something is fake with out any proof. Go out there and prove it’s a fake. We need to stop letting the government control not only us but the entire planet and all life that’s on it, in it. “In God we trust” on our money, above the judge in a court room. They think they are God. What rights do we really have? Are we just worker ants? What right did they have to do those sonar tests? Is this what we want?”We the people”, we need to speak up. Do something, anything, even if we just use words and demand no more secrets, keep raising our voices, writing letters, just keep on talking about, something has to be done.

      • dubs   June 2, 2012 at 12:28 pm

You have a very US-centric view of the world, Crissy with an H. The American government does not control the world. Congress cannot even agree on legislation. I’ve worked for the government, they lack the coordination to control the world, muchless ‘all life on it.’ If that were the case, they could get Russians to stop fishing particular species of sturgeon that are listed on our endangered list but not Russia’s. Or is that another coordinated government cover-up on the part of the American covernment intended to snow us into believing the sturgeon is not endangered? Their arms are just not that long, if you are so afraid of them, you could always move to Canada, just avoid the homicidal porn actor they are looking for when you get up there. ::crosses fingers::

they are more common in asian countries, you see them more in the islands of the philippines and thailand where they more frequent at night. i was more convince one day when i saw a man and his son arguing, the son is a very good looking guy, but his father was doubtful, so what the father did he submerged his son on a steel drum full of water, after a few minutes the son was strugling to get out of the water, he’s father ask him….now tell me son…are you a”MAN” or trying to be a “WOMAN” the son replied ….. I am a “MERMAID”

  103. g m voeth   May 30, 2012 at 5:15 am

I watched this great sci-fi movie which seems done in the spirit of the “Blair Witch Project” and am amazed to see such a well done sci-fi movie. The spear points remind me of those used by eskimos, the US NAVY does not have any SONAR weapons (I was a SONAR tech) the sound really powerful must be for seismic research which must penetrate the ground. They used to do seismic research with nuclear bombs years ago. To me it is only a very well done SCi-Fi movie and little else. If true, these sea creatures would warrant consideration for RIGHTS and Privliges. Even if they are a different specie related to humans. I think they are not real tho, all my life (50 some years) I have seen nothing to support the movies claims. DID THEY PROCESS the sound clip for spread spectrum modulation or other bnew forms of radio (Underwater communications can be single sideband like radio too), Jolly Good Show, A great NEW SCi-Fi.

  104. Texas   May 30, 2012 at 4:52 am

For those who want to say some of the things on the show looked fake I agree but there also was a lot that looked very real and convincing. Now before discrediting this people must realize the government has their hands in everything and possibly allowed this to be put out there with some footage and opinions that seemed far fetched to try and ridicule this entire subject to make people think nothing of this. This is the same thing they tried doing with aliens and alien spacecrafts being witnessed but, obviously, they did it to no avail. This seems to me as though the same thing is happening wich is why this probably did not end up in headline news on news stations. The government wants people to feel its stupid to believe in this type if stuff.

  105. brian kraml   May 30, 2012 at 3:53 am

It showed and talked alot of evidence ,and very convincing! And we all can believe that our goverment is always and has hid important information from the public , I think and feel the gov should tell us the truth about all!!!! Weather we want to know or not,we deserve the right to know!!!!

    • geraldine pietronico   May 30, 2012 at 11:09 am

      don’t hold your breath!!!

  106. Bayfia   May 30, 2012 at 2:48 am

I saw this film on Sunday night and was amazed! It was very well done, and I felt it was entirely believable. My research the next day and today has turned up a press release by the Discovery Channel – Animal Planet indicating it was created for entertainment purposes and to encourage people to consider possible explanations for the existance of mermaids based on the Aquatic Ape Theory that is presently being promoted in at least one university as a possible explanation of human evolution. I think is was a marvelous film. I am most impressed. The U.S. Navy’s role in the suppression of vital information seems realistic and understandable as well. I think it was an amazing, entertaining film well worth taking the time to watch, and think about.

  107. slithra   May 30, 2012 at 1:54 am

all the recordins online have been speed up to much, and when people slow it down, the results arent very good, lots of websites have been taken down, and this is defenetly a gov. cover up, whach this site be taken down next week, i bet on it.

  109. bigtoe   May 30, 2012 at 1:32 am

You could tell the show was fake….the female “scientists” were way too hot! And all the “scientists” had perfect haircuts.

    • miscelanious   May 30, 2012 at 2:26 am

if you think about it, the scientists would look that way becuase they would not want to look terrible on T.V. (you most likely would want to look good on camera too.) not only that but there is some scientits that look like they could be models. if it was fake how would you explain the rcordings and the witnesses and the video of the mermaid being poked by those kids. therefore the show was not fake.

      • bigtoe   May 30, 2012 at 2:50 am

Have you seen a hollywood movie in the last 10 years? CGI? If they could animate the creatures in the historical sequences then they could make one appear from whale carcus, or pile of seaweed….

I’m not saying they didn’t do a good job of fooling almost everybody I know who watched it (including me), but by the end instinct told me it was Mockumentary about what could be, not an accurate account of what happened.

My seven year old will now be scared to go into the water on vacation, and we just had gotten over “Soul Surfer”

What kind of parent are you? Talk to you child. There are more dangers at our schools and playgrounds then in nature. What about sharks, jelly fish and perverts at the beach. Don’t be so close minded,

        • miscelanious   June 2, 2012 at 2:10 am

i’m sorry your child won’t go in the water now. but if they truly did fake the show, how do you explain the cell phone video by the two kids.

  110. John Chunn   May 29, 2012 at 5:55 pm

Navy killing whales, porpoises and mermaids! Navy must feel very good about genocide that we taxpayers fund for their gay activities.

    • alan leddon   May 29, 2012 at 6:45 pm

I note that you use “gay” as an insult. Funny how people see as bad in others the things they like least about themselves.

  111. kaitlyn   May 30, 2012 at 12:25 am

if any of you had actually watched the show, you would realize that since their research and scientific evidence had been confiscated and destroyed there is no way that they could publish this show as being fact. even if they had the evidence then and their research truly did prove the exsistence of mermaids, without acknowledgement from some governmental agency, all of their work becomes debatable and merely theory. also seems sort of strange that dr. paul robertson’s website and this documentary’s website have been seized by homeland security, along with a military officer’s anonymous confession that this was a cover up. seems like pretty solid proof to me…

    • miscelanious   June 2, 2012 at 2:17 am

i’m only thirteen and i can realize that the government is only making you think that the entire show was a joke

  112. got2tellu   May 29, 2012 at 11:19 pm

I believe that there is a chance mermaids are real, they find new species of spiders, bugs, snakes in the rain forest or jungle, and not to mention the new species of whales that have been found, so why not a mermaid. No one on this earth has a clue of every living thing that exists on it. Hopefully for those species that havent been found, for their own safety they can stay that way cause humans only do more harm than good, if a species has been surviving this long without the help of a human and living through all the crap we do to the planet like pollution, oil spills…just leave them alone.

    • miscelanious   June 2, 2012 at 2:22 am

i agree with you completely but wouldn’t you find it cool if you could see a real mermaid.please be honest, besides, if you did see one,you don’t have to tell anyone, right?

  113. AC   May 29, 2012 at 11:07 pm

hmmmmm…..that sounds fishy, do we have anything about that half man half horse thing they found in Kentucky?

  116. Jack   May 29, 2012 at 10:11 pm

Dudes, I’ve got a mermaid living down the block at the Channel of where the James River and Chesapeake Bay meet…right down the block…and she’s smoking hot! I would definitely date her…fish smell or not! We’re both kind of shy and so far she has only given me a few waves with her middle finger (must be a mermaid thing). I’m definitely in love!

    • miscelanious   June 2, 2012 at 2:34 am

was her face kind or threatening because if it was kind then maybe it is a mermaid thing, but if her face was threatening then ….. she was flipping you off.hopefully her face was kind.

  117. AnnaMarie   May 29, 2012 at 9:59 pm

My cousin thinks merpeople are real. she had a claim in ’03 saying, “some fish lady was singing to me.” with her being 4 i believed her.

And of course merpeople have right to live in secrecy, sometimes we do not need to discover them, just keep it as a myth so that way people will countinue on with life knowing merpeople are real or not…

    • miscelanious   June 2, 2012 at 2:38 am

yes but if we don’t discover them, we won’t know if we could possibly be linked in history somewhere. who knows we could be related to them. so why not discover them.

  118. Omega3   May 29, 2012 at 9:01 pm

I had Mermaid meat back in 1989 and when i was done enjoying the nice slab of meat my face looked like the footage of the beached Mermaid where in the corner of it mouth it was bloody it was running down my chin and everything tatesed like chicken with a gamey taste

  119. Bear   May 29, 2012 at 8:16 pm

Think about it. How could such a creature exist? It’s one species from the waist up and another from the wast down…they would never go together. The upper human would need the lower part it doesn’t have in order to survive, and vice-versa. It couldn’t eat or mate as either creature could. It’s a romantic notion but that’s about all. Can you imagin a man in love with a mermaid who smells like fish from the waist down? Sex would be impossible of course. Give me aliens every time!

    • pip   May 29, 2012 at 8:21 pm

have you heard of a platypus?

    • miscelanious   June 2, 2012 at 2:45 am

if you had paid any attention to the video you would know that there upper body looks similar but is almost completely different.we used to look identical at one point before we evolved in different enviroments.
if they can’t mate how do you explain them living up to this time.

  120. Ladonna   May 29, 2012 at 8:01 pm

I love the idea of mermaids and that it could be possibly but i would think they would have pulled one up already they could live in the deep you never know anything is possible, but it has been a myth since 546bc but it could have just lasted longer than others like Zeus. I believe God is a myth an there’s scientific proof that the only thing in the sky is the stars planets and galaxies I don’t mean to offend you if you are religious but the show got my imagination going crazy lol all

  121. Moonknight   May 29, 2012 at 7:59 pm

I just think its funny. We as arrogant beings, with all our money and perfection. Wow would it be funny we seem to find out the things we dont believe in. Lets say in the next few years yellowstone arupts, all the sudden the “Bigfoot” is all over, running down the street. It will be too late then to document it. The Hawaiian island has a major eruption and the sea temp rises, and wow here are bodies. AS we all know, global warming is NOT happening, not because what we have done or anything. It’s a natural “Science proven therory” of how our world has it’s cycles. We are in for a real shocker very soon. All of our books have told us everything so.. if it’s not written or seen by now it’s not true. Ever have faith is something? Maybe just hold out hope for something? Ever heard of maybe just keeping an open mind?
Nah… we all know whats out there because its what we know. We know everything!!!

  122. Rita Faye   May 29, 2012 at 7:59 pm

It seems we are always arguing over if something does or does not exsist. Ever since man went to sea, there has been the pictures and stories of mermen and mermaids. As for those who say they can’t be because of Christianity, You know God created the Dinosaurs and they lived for years before man,. . . . . . . Their bones are found everywhere. Cave drawings depict the hunt of them. So…o..o..o..o… why not Merpeople?Just because we haven’t ran in to them before? Look at that tribe of natives living in the jungle down in midle americas. Short people, never saw a white person before, talk about culture shock! All I am saying is Keep an open mind, You may meet a Merperson sooner than you think.

  123. derrik2k   May 29, 2012 at 7:57 pm

One thing that you ALL are forgetting is that a work of Fiction is only so because it is not based on Facts… If they were able to keep the evidence, and if they had the actual proof, it could become a work of Non-fiction, or even a real Documentary. I am not speaking one way or the other just clarifying things for those who think they know, everything is Fictitious until they have proof, even the “Theory of Evolution”….

  124. Unknown   May 29, 2012 at 7:30 pm

They said; God created us, but the real question is who created God.

Answer: The people who wrote the bible, is the one who created God, and they wrote in the bible that God created us. Simple, just used your common sense people.

    • unknown   May 29, 2012 at 7:45 pm

Um…no, the discipiles actually were the ones who wrote the bible…you would know that if you read it…

      • Unknown   May 29, 2012 at 7:53 pm

So this what you call disciples; are the responsible of all of this, because they created God.

        • unknown   May 29, 2012 at 9:51 pm

nooo, I’m saying the diciples were the ones who wrote the bible and that they did not create God.(: I never said they were resposible…

          • Thomas Boussum   May 30, 2012 at 3:01 am

The disciples didn’t write the bible. The bible was written by prophets, kings, shepherds, etc…There were only 12 disciples…Those were the ones called by Christ when he started his mission here. Read your bible.
I’m not even a Christian and I’m not THAT ignorant.

      • titansfanvol   July 19, 2012 at 7:31 pm

No, the disciples did not write the bible. I have read it and studied it. Many, MANY people wrote the bible and sadly, there are parts that the Catholic church took out hundreds of years ago. Do your homework before you attack people.

    • reenmom   May 30, 2012 at 12:52 pm

What logic you think you possess. So, let me query you this — what came first, the chicken or the egg? Substantiate your premise with facts please, although I doubt that is possible for your obviously limited mind.

      • sicnslik   May 30, 2012 at 2:46 pm

        neither the rooster came first

    • miscelanious   June 2, 2012 at 3:05 am

um…. how did all the comments on mermaids and how they could possibly be living turn to who created god.

  125. amelia   May 29, 2012 at 7:29 pm

Shakespeare said it best, “there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosopies”. We know more about the moon than we do about our oceans… I, for one, like the idea of mermaids… however, if they ARE out there… we should leave them alone and let them be…. we ( as a species) have a terrible track record for interactions with other species… we either hunt them into oblivion, “study” them or kill them with all of our diseases. Swim fast and deep mer-people.. stay away from things with 2 legs.

  126. Dill   May 29, 2012 at 7:17 pm

Does the fact that fishermen have been pulling out license plates out of sharks fro decades mean these mermaids are motoring about on the bottom of the ocean?

    • slithra   May 30, 2012 at 1:44 am

no, you could not have a car at the bottom of the ocean because it will rust, you cant use it

  127. Gary   May 29, 2012 at 7:13 pm

Anything IS possible,There are narrow minded people that don’t understand or even take the time to try,My question to the one’s that don’t get it is ,you believe in GOD don’t you, ever see him?

  128. JaqenH'ghar   May 29, 2012 at 7:10 pm

People, people.. please calm down. A few things here. First of all, I’d like to say that this show was excellent and highly entertaining with surprisingly good acting. It definitely had me checking all kinds of facts. However, the show states that it is a work of fiction. I do not doubt at all that the US Navy has weaponized sonar technology that happened to kill whales and other cetaceans, but the “bloop” tape is the only real evidence that this show presents. The “aquatic ape theory”, or I should say hypothesis, bc theories need evidence, is plausible but never happened. To all the poeple saying we’re always discovering new species of fish that were thought to be extinct, that’s bc they are fish, they do not need to surface to breathe, thus they stay hidden. These creatures would have been highly social and most likely would have been captured at least once in history. Definitely wouldn’t be living in Mariana’s Trench. Lastly, all of the “scientists” in the show aren’t real. No people exist that go by those names and occupations. I really do wish this were a real show but it wasn’t and it’s almost criminal, even though I very much enjoyed it, that they are allowed to air these “mockumentaries” or “docufictions” bc the majority of people believe everything they see or hear no matter the source.

    • Somebody that talks   May 29, 2012 at 8:06 pm

Hey people they hole Mermaid thing is really cool i so believe to all, but if people looked in to it to much people could just wipe them all out like Robertson colleagues, listen people of wiping out animals if the mermaids are more like animals we will kill them off like animal, if there more like people we will concur them like people

    • trav   May 30, 2012 at 1:30 am

right on, it was a work of fiction. all were actors. anyone remember “the fourth kind”? similar type of trickery. entertaining though.

  129. Ryan   May 29, 2012 at 6:42 pm

I know that the entire thing is basically a reenactment. The idea of evolution makes sense. The phone video obviously is 100 percent fake. If the government confiscated everything I think they would remember to check somebodies phone also….. but if any of this is real why would they dilute it with obvious fake things like the phone video???? If any of this is true and the government is hiding something how did this get on TV in the first place????

    • slithra   May 30, 2012 at 1:48 am

actually, it is intirely possible they forgot, it was new tectnology, not many people had it, they most likely assumed that the kid didnt have one.

  130. Missy   May 29, 2012 at 6:40 pm

I for one, enjoyed the show very much and am curious to know more about the possibility of the existence. We live in a world where we constantly think the unordinary cannot be possible. Nothing is impossible. Until there is more proof, remain open minded.
I would also like to add, what about all the stories the old sailors talk about? The stories about the mermaids luring the sailors with their absolute flawless beauty and killing them for food consumption.
The facts are there. Can’t be so sure about the evidence unless I, and each and every one of us saw it for our own self.
But I for one, believe it’s entirely possible!

    • omg.!!(:   May 29, 2012 at 9:58 pm

thank goodness.! I loved it too.! and it really makes you wonder…:D

  131. JR Jackson   May 29, 2012 at 6:35 pm

Give these creatures weapons; stainless steel or more durabale alloy, with which they are able to
defend themselves against sharks, if they are to
prosper. Diamond tipped, gold coin (ancient) in-
cluded in the design if that is what is wanted in
return. Wear bullet proof vests, body armor, when
handing these things to the creatures.

  132. Doesn't matter   May 29, 2012 at 6:33 pm

I do believe in them… I know for a FACT there out there. Think about it … Them finding tools and there is proof so no one tell me there is no proof. Have any of you gone down to the bottom if the pacific to look for bones? I didn’t think so they are real. Have you ever swam in the ocean? It feels great and we are born able to hold our breath and swim. That video wasn’t real of corse they went gonna show military evidence. Evolution happens we all know that. And have you ever seen a person with webbed fingers or toes. I have she was one of me best friends. Every thing adds up. If you never heard of whales and dolphins then someone came and said hey there’s a mammal that’s like a fish that stays in the water, you wouldn’t believe it ether. I know for a fact there here but they don’t look like a sparkly little half human half fish thing. I ,for one, am glad they showed this show. Maybe the people are actors and the videos are fake but now everyone knows there here.

    • mark R   July 16, 2012 at 4:31 am

If you KNOW they are real i would love to see your proof. I would like to meet one.

  133. Lenore   May 29, 2012 at 6:20 pm

I was so captivated by the show, and I definitely want to find out more. My questions are, why would we control what the South African government does with their aquatic research specimens? Is our Navy that all-encompassing? Why would the Navy want to cover up such an earth shattering discovery? Just to save face? Why hasn’t a mermaid body been found in a great white before? Why did the researchers leave NOAA? Was NOAA part of the cover up?

Could the researchers be so desperate to stop the beaching of the whales and dolphins that they fabricate a new species, to draw attention to the sonar testing issue?

I need to do more research. I love the idea of the “missing link mermaid”!

    • ignoramouse   May 29, 2012 at 6:47 pm

Hilary Bergman: I 100% agree with you..The government hushed this up real quick…Knowning the government there wanting to catch them to try to control them as military weapon….what else could it be why government wants to shut it up…

  137. Lydia   May 29, 2012 at 6:02 pm

I found it very interesting. What I have a problem with is our military harming these mamals by the sonars. If they are real, we need to leave them alone. I sometime ashamed of our race of how we distroy nature and all that GOD created. GOD has made us to evolve and to adapt to our enviroment.

  138. Keith Kornatoski   May 29, 2012 at 6:01 pm

Reminder to all nay-sayers …. years ago a Coelecanth was discovered which supposedly had been extinct for millions??? of years … and yes there were actors playing the parts in the “re-creation” video(s). … but on the other hand … much like UFOS / BIGFOOT /CHUPACABRA / etc. why is there no direct proof??? … someone could have easily snapped a photo of the remains found in the shark and squirreled it away for another day to resurface…this is mysteriously missing…

    • Merman Tony   May 29, 2012 at 8:09 pm

I saw the show.It did bring up alot of interesting facts about the the ways things evolved oover the years and time. Like one person said that there are so many things that have not been proven but we know that they are out there somwhere ,like champ in lake champlain in upstate NY and nessy in scottland. So we know they are out there. We will see them in time maybe not in our lifetime .

  139. Gideon ande   May 29, 2012 at 5:58 pm

Mermaid is real. In some countries in Africa. People worship them. Its only in developed they do not believe their existence. They are dangerous being.

its fake obviously. have u not seen movies before? FAKE MERMAID DUH

  140. Synfoo   May 29, 2012 at 5:39 pm

I’m not saying that mermaids are fake or real BUT this show is 100% fake. You can even go to the imdb page and it lists the actors who play the researchers. Nothing about it is real. It was very entreating though. The “footage” was crap, but some of the points made were neat (like the evolution from water apes, explanation for our slight webbing, etc).

    • Mermaid   May 29, 2012 at 6:35 pm

I don’t care if you believe me or not,but mermaids and mermen are my ancestors, when my 5 times great grand father married a pretty woman in England, which is my 5 times great grand mother, they obviously had 2 children, one night my ancestor was having a bath,my 5 times great grand father peeked at her through a key hole, and he discovered she was half fish, she seen him,and jumped out the window,at nights she would come and breast feed her baby, the oldest one was 3.It’s been passed down from generation to generation, about our mermaid ancestor, she was beautiful, when she’d go on land she had legs, but as soon as she touch water, her legs would go together and become half a fish,I’m not the only one that has mermaids for ancestors,I could swim under a lake or ocean for 40 mins, with out air,I have 2 little holes behind each ear,I have very long red hair and blue eyes,my kids and I love to swim it’s in us,my children dream of mermaids a lot,so do I.They talk to me,and they have magical powers, which they left behind to me,I could hear peoples thoughts, and I could feel how their feeling,When my friends are sad,I could feel it or my relatives,I phone them and ask them, you are lonely aren’t you, they used to ask me how I know, not my relatives, cause they have mermaids ancestors too,not all of them, theirs a few of us left, but they do talk to us and tell us,if you ever need some thing,we’ll be there to help you,my kids all have physic powers, they also know things that are gonna happen or when a person is gonna die,yes there are mermaids and mermen, but not all of them are nice, infact the majority of them are mean and ugly,as for my 5 times great grand mother, they say she was very beautiful, she fell in love with my 5 times great grand father

      • Someone with a kept secret   May 30, 2012 at 5:50 am

If you are really talking truth and not joking like most closed minded and ignorant people have about many things or topics. Answer me one thing: what about me can you tell that is related to this you talk about? I see and hear alot of things that alot of people would not imagine being possible but there is something that I never talk about. And if you are real then you should be able to figure it out

FYI I know they are real and I’m not BS!

  144. Matt   May 29, 2012 at 5:27 pm

my grandmother told me that his father to make a living had to search for big seashells underwater that believed to produce pearls (we still have some of those big shells up to now)..as he surfaced to get some air my great grandfather according to my grandmother saw a human-fish like creature came out of nowhere looked scary and was making this ear popping noise..that was in the Philippines back in early 1900’s when it happened..

  145. Anthony Pay   May 29, 2012 at 5:09 pm

the evidence speaks for it’s self that it really is a merman real as it it and surpriased that the proof was a video phone. Now I believe in mermaids and mermans. solid proof that exsitence of paranormal does in deed float in and out of human kind.

  146. Frank Enstien   May 29, 2012 at 5:01 pm

I have kept my first camera phone and it does not zoom or auto focus like the video on the beach. It is a fake or recreation. the sonar or sound waves may be the HAARP weapon focused on the ocean or a reflection of the HAARP wave.

    • Taylor   May 29, 2012 at 5:11 pm

In 2004, many people filmed the earthquake/tsunami in the indian ocean. Many of those had zoom capability. So its quite possible that a phone in 2004 era, which is when the video was supposedly taken, could have taken it.

  147. OAK   May 29, 2012 at 4:59 pm

The show “Mermaids: The Body Found” Defiantly was entertaining just like monsterquest or Finding Bigfoot. But like those shows there has never been any proof of Bigfoot, Lochness Monster, UFOs ect.and now Mermaids. Even photos of those phenomena are not proof because so many cant be proved legitimate. The legends live on because of ancient peoples who needed examples of creatures to make their stories and beliefs and gods real to those who would listen. I would be a believer with any of these creatures if there were ones in captivity alive or dead.

  148. Melissa   May 29, 2012 at 4:57 pm

I watched this last night and I have to say the most intriguing piece of evidence they had was the cave drawings. Nevermind the camera phone footage, btw, it was an obvious remake due to the fact that the camera on the phone was probably pretty crappy. But my arguement is simply this, ancient people told many tales back then both for historical preservation and for entertainment, however, cave paintings were strictly made so that the events that were depicted were left for all to see. Paintings and drawings were made of actual events and happenings. I believe mermaids are a possibility and anyone who says its impossible because of the lack of physical evidence I have two words for you:GIANT SQUID! Despite years and years of mariners claims of sightings and dead washed up specimens the beast was finally captured on film and the skeptics had to eat a crap ton of humble pie.

    • Dav3   May 29, 2012 at 5:22 pm

Melissa, you know what is also funny… There are cave pictures of dragons/dinosaurs, large animals but yet the scientist who uncovered that at a time there were dinosaurs and humans walking together, they got shuned… Even paintaing from the 1100-1500 depict it also. GIANT OCTOPUS, another good one.

They created a great hypothesis. But if you watch until the VERY end of the “documentary” it does say that it’s all a work of fiction, but the sounds or “The Bloop,” where they originally got the evidence is real.

    • David estrada   May 29, 2012 at 7:00 pm

Steve, aparently you werent listening to the whole show, their evidence was confisacted and destroyed. Their DNA sample was destroyed, the only thing they had left was the blop and the video from the boy, which they themselves didnt know existed untill the visited the boys. All the computer graphics were fiction all the scenes from the lab were fiction because they had no hard evidence anymore. They spent a few years with Animal Planet making this to get the info out. They didnt just make all this up and then give it to animal planet to air, Animal Planet wouldnt put something like this on air if they themselves did not believe there was some crediblity to the story.

      • dubs   May 30, 2012 at 12:11 pm

Ok, I’ve been laughing my ass off this entire time at a majority of these posts(mermaid ancestors and holes behind your ears? 40 mins underwater? roffle go set a world record and beat guiness then we will talk.) But, david estrada, dont be a dolt. To mirror your pedantic tone, you clearly were not reading at the end. It states that the whole story is fiction, ie not real. Animal planet even put a press release out on their website BEFORE the show aired saying it was a work of science fiction, based on fact, and then springboarded into the imagination. They state the two facts upon which the show is based: the navy did sonar testing which was loosly tied to beached whales and a bloop happened somewhere once and they dont know what it is. You seem so deadset on saying this whole thing is real when the publishers prefaced the airing of the whole show, via press release, by saying, ‘this is all fiction and speculation, enjoy the show.’ Furthermore, to the rest of the tin-foil hat wearing yahoos, the admission that the only two facts going into the creation of this MOCKumentary were bloop and sonar, that refutes any possibility of credibility to any other footage shown, statements made(by actors), alleged actions taken(by shadow governments lol!), or photos displayed. Also, to those talking about sites being blocked by homeland security, etc: have you never heard of marketing? I must admit it is a genious marketing ploy to ham up the mockumentary because it has worked amazing well on some of you. To those who ‘want to help’: google the title of the show(Mermaids: A Body Found) and read the press release issued by animal planet. Then, go to dictionary.com and type in fiction. You just helped yourself be a little less slow. Now I know none of these real facts I’ve stated will convince a die-hard idiot who believes this piece of entertaining television that it is in fact that, entertaining television. Think, if you will, of the radio broadcast of H.G. Wells’ ‘War of the Worlds.’ There were people who cut off the program halfway through, packed their families, and headed for the hills. They never heard the disclaimer at the end of the program stating it was a work of fiction; much like many believers never read the disclaimer at the end of the program. By the way, the blair witch project, grave encounters, amitivyville horror, etc all start by saying this is a true story(thats part of the PLOT) and finish by saying, ‘by the way for anyone dumb enough to this this is true, its not.’ In a final thought, if you still think this is all true and somehow proof of anything, I promise the warning about the bathtub on your toaster is a lie. I still cant stop laughing at the psychic, fishish, superhuman swimmer who’s grandfather commited beastiality. lolol Thanks for the laughs. Good one Animal Planet, you spawned a new group of dolts who are actually going to make children one day, if they have not already done so, and pass on the notion that this crap is real. Mermaids could exist, but this movie does nothing to confirm nor deny that possibility; and its a small, small, small possibility. Have a good one, dont die in a fire(or bathtub with a toaster.)

do you think you can post that again i didn’t see it the first 3 times you put it up.

  151. Eric Williams   May 29, 2012 at 4:45 pm

I am a natural skeptic. I am skeptical of anything like this that doesn’t appear in the mainstream media and equally skeptical of all those folks who KNOW there’s no such as any given thing. Until we know everything, which will never be, we will never know that there is no such as anything. Evolution is obvious and new species are found all the time. In the 1800s, gorillas were believed by most to be fictional, yet now they are the mainstays of virtually every zoo and circus. I don’t like faked documentaries like this because they are fake, but it doesn’t fully discredit the potential existence of any new species. As for evolution, it doesn’t really matter whether we believe in it or not, it’s going to keep right on happening. Yes folks, there are a lot of crazy conspiracy theorists out there, but there wouldn’t be if there weren’t so many crazy conspiracies…..

    • KC   May 29, 2012 at 5:51 pm

Really? Mainstream media? My friend, you will definitely never know what is real and what is make believe if you only believe what is reported by mainstream media. You ARE living in fantasyland and don’t even know it.

  152. adam   May 29, 2012 at 4:42 pm

Let’s be totally honest…the fact that this was made is almost a guarantee that there are no mermaids swimming around out there.

you can thank MonsterQuest, Finding Bigoot, Lost Tapes, and a slew of other epicly bad TV shows for this opinion.

    • Anne Todd   May 29, 2012 at 5:25 pm

Yes, More “MonsterQuest” show next to Mermaids again…Bigfoot, Monster and real Monster is under sea/ocean and bigfoot, and others, too…

Does anyone thought that the bible was the most successful fictional novel ever written, and because of its popularity a group of people build an organization.

    • John Chunn   May 29, 2012 at 5:52 pm

Bible is a collection of edited books by many authors and their own accounts it seems of folklore. The existence of God versus Merman and Mermaids are two different leaps of acceptance. I can’t start that but I can state that Catholicism is a cult. No where in the Bible requires the ritualistic groveling required and convoluted thought process that are meaningless if one were to believe in God.

      • 1969 lms   May 30, 2012 at 5:32 am

The Bible is nothing more than a Book of Jewish Fairytales. I don’t think believing in mermaids requires any more faith than believing in the Bible.
As for this mermaid program, check out Animal Planets website, the “bloop” and the beached whales were the only facts in this fictionalized story.

  154. Brandon Tasner   May 29, 2012 at 3:58 pm

look at your body, humans are built for water. im a scuba and free diver, the ocean feels more comfortable than anything. to think that there couldnt be mermaids is stupid because we know more about the moon than our oceans. and a dolphin couldnt make the bloop because if you have ever heard different dolphin pitches they are high, not extremely low. Somewhere in our timeline we did belong to the ocean, there is no way that not every human cam onto the land. Mermaids are a species of human, just older. Those scientists even though probably fake showed real information, cause how did all of those civilizations from thousands of years ago all have legends of mermaids when communication between the places could not be made? And those videos are most likely fake but there is still a great amount of evidence supporting the idea that the species of humans we call mermaids could still be alive. The government hides whatever they want to so it’s no surprise that they would block every website that involves this topic. To be able to find the truth you would need to be able to get a recording of the bloop, go into open ocean on a boat, play the bloop underwater with a type of microphone that sends the bloops frequency through the water, and either jump in with a camera in a scuba suit or lower a camera into the water and do this for days at a time around the world. Mermaids do exist because humans exist

i thought the camera phone video was just crap i mean it was animated !
i wounld like to see the full video but cant find where.
i want to believe i really do ,think about it if they were like us that would make sense i mean the fact that dolphins relate to us and that scientist say we came from fish its pretty cool i mean, again, IT WOULD MAKE SENSE!!!!!!

  156. bob   May 29, 2012 at 3:22 pm

I worked with navy undersea acoustic warfare, the fact is we spend most our time trying to be very quiet and listen intently, we can hear conversations in hulls of ships hundreds of miles away. And if we are listening the enemy is listening.
Think about it, if a acoustic weapon strong enough to liquefy flesh was used during a battle every ship submarine and torpedo for thousands of miles would know exactly where you were and destroy you post haste, a weapon like that would be tactically useless,

  157. Rolando Giz   May 29, 2012 at 2:23 pm

My father in law told me over 20 years ago that while fishing for shdimps south of Cuba in the 1950’s he caught someting similar to what they described on the show it was screaming and it look like a kid it gave them a fight and they had to released it they told the Cuban government and they told them that they were drinking.

  158. Ctef   May 29, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Well if any Of you non believers stopped and thought about it, if te government seized their stuff, and stopped their researc, then of course they’re gonna lake
Them not exist, they’ll hide the department, and lie about the scientists, the ones in the movie are played by actors, it said so in the video. Would you realt want to go on television if the government has already silenced your work and could do more? No, but you’d want to get your story out. The videos they showed could have been re-done just like everything else, and the cgi was all showing you how, evolutionarily, these creatures could exist. I’m obsessed with mermaids myself and in researching them, I came across both the drawing and cave drawings, those at least are totally real. And if you blatantly announcing the government has covered up something this big on national television, I myself would cover my ass by saying it was fake too, and not having the real people play themselves. All the facts stacked together, you can’t deny that it could be possible.

  159. Steve kommata   May 29, 2012 at 12:52 pm

I think there is a entire show about mermaids and it looked like they actually had some footage of them too. They looked surprisingly a lot like us, I believe its called H2O?

    • jair   May 29, 2012 at 2:15 pm

      yup i watch that

  160. Jan   May 29, 2012 at 9:53 am

I watche a video of divers filming real mermaids they is an island where they are but no one knows of you can watch the video on YouTube I think but not sure what the link was so you would have to search real mermaids, if I find the link I will post!!
They are not vey friendly with te humans they come in contact with and they have psychic powers, apparently can be quite dangerous, but people don’t believe what they don”t see or her about do they, mermaids washed up on shore YouTube!!

    • Byron Triandafyllidis   May 29, 2012 at 10:58 am

Although I’ve believed in many conspiracies, the photoshopped fish with spears tin them is enough for me to say this is all BS. It’s a Mockumentary with some truths…the bloop, the fact that mass deaths of whales here in Australia happen to coincide with US Naval vessels coming for a visit. Maybe that’s where the real conspiracy lies. Trying to divert, mask these truths with BS. A false conspiracy to hide the real one… The whales and dolphins are killed as a by-product of sonar and the US Navy doesn’t give a shit

      • THall   May 29, 2012 at 3:57 pm

Amen! If my country’s navy is causing these beachings, it fills me with shame and rage. Bad enough to do it on our own coast, but to do it off the shores of other nations is beyond disgusting.

  161. Liz   May 29, 2012 at 9:51 am

I can’t be the only on here who does not find it a slight bit ironic that both websites believeinmermaids and drpaulrobertson have both been seized by the US State department.

Something fishy is going on here.

    • THall   May 29, 2012 at 3:46 pm

This is exactly the point I was making earlier… The website “seizures” are themselves fake. When governments seize websites, they don’t leave an attractive graphic that incriminates them. If you try to open a website that has really been shut down, your browser just gives you an error that says the page won’t load.

      • jacob   May 29, 2012 at 4:09 pm

you’re actually completely wrong, they do put up that image when they seize a website domain, i download music off of file sharing websites, a few months ago the government came in and seized the websites, the same image comes up now on them.

      • ginger   May 29, 2012 at 7:05 pm

Jacob is right. The government does leave graphic markers such as the one seen on http://www.believeinmermaids.com. CBS did a news story about websites seized by the government and they show what the graphic marker looks like (which government department is part of the seizure will determine which department logos would be included on the graphic.

For evidence of that, you can find the CBS story at http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57332223/feds-seize-150-websites-selling-fake-goods/

      • Justin   May 30, 2012 at 3:03 am

Not true watch-movies.net was seized by the U.S. government and did in fact have a big U.S. seal on the page.

        • THall   May 30, 2012 at 4:56 am

I think there is a big difference between the seizure of a site which facilitates crime, and a site that the government is trying to “sweep under the rug”. Of course they put a large government graphic on sites that are seized for crimes, or aiding others in the commission of crimes. The idea there is to make it very obvious that the site was seized for illegal activity (stealing music and movies is illegal, after all). When the Feds are trying to make something disappear, as the posters I was responding to were claiming, the error code is how it is done (I can’t reveal the source of that information, but I do know with certainty that it is true). That being said, I will confess that you are most likely correct in this case – the seals are probably legitimate, given the information provided by larry williard, who posted the reason for the seizures; fradulent claims against the US. That is a whole different story. Either the sites were seized because they were full of liable, or they were seized because they were indeed full of truth that the US government wishes to discredit. I don’t know which, and I don’t believe anyone here knows either. I tend to support the old adage: Don’t look for a zebra when a horse will do. For the record, I never claimed that the story behind all the CGI and re-enactors wasn’t true. I only said that it was a probable hoax, and I stand by that.

  162. Dolphins   May 29, 2012 at 8:32 am

Let us not forget the hundreds of dolphins that died in Peru! They were killed. The findings show they died from acoustical trauma! What? Why? Blue voice.org

  163. Kage-Hi   May 29, 2012 at 8:11 am

i do believe and religion is a load of crock.
we have dozens of religions, each one has mythalogical monsters and creatures, some extent of alienish activity, and superhuman abilities.
on top of that scientist have proven evolution and so has common-sense.
we have evidence and witnesses to thousands of species yet to be proven to exist and some of the evidence is real, even without proving the creatures actually exist.
why do you have to bag on the phone vid they downloaded origenal content from the origenal, blew it up to tv size and enhanced it like the cops, cia, fbi, csi, ncis, and anyone else does, yes i quoted tv shows based on real equipment.
    beloieve goddamnit believe

  164. Mickey   May 29, 2012 at 7:46 am

Everyone was so focus on the footage of the beach… If this whole thing is real. They wouldn’t show you the real video, It’s a reenactment of the video itself. Wrap yourself around the actual idea…

  165. gulfbeachgirl   May 29, 2012 at 7:33 am

animal planet flick was pretty unbelievable. U would think those former NOAA scientist would have a pic or two of their own in personal files. But how is it that mermaids have been a part of history for centuries around the world??????

  166. john   May 29, 2012 at 7:21 am

if all this “is a hoax” what about the cave paintings and records of the drawings from different cultures/civilizations around the world that didnt have contact from different time periods and also the “stories” of fishermen seeing things in the ocean. what about the guy in the dark. why hide your face if all this isnt real? come on people you all know you have that “what if” in the back of your mind. we cant be the only “human like” species out there.

  167. shawn   May 29, 2012 at 6:55 am

i almost thought all this was real till i seen the video this kid had on his cell phone. a phone that old wouldnt have a video that good. someone should find some kind of “proof” on the web and post it on here

    • larry williard   May 29, 2012 at 7:06 am

Notes at the end of the film:

None of the Institutions or Agencies that appear in the film are affiliated or Associated with it in anyway. nor have approved its contents, Any similarities in the film to actual persons, living or dead, is purely confidential.

Though certain events in this film are Fictional, Navy Sonar tests have been directly implicated in whale beaching.

The bloop is a real phenomenon. There is still debate about what it may be.

      Kind of says it all.

      • mark R   July 16, 2012 at 5:03 am

thank you for putting that up, i read it at the end of the show also.

  168. Slab   May 29, 2012 at 6:51 am

Anyone else notice the “faces” in the waves of the pictures posted?

    • Erhan8   May 29, 2012 at 7:26 am

We as humans are conditioned to recognize faces. This we see them everywhere. Pretty cool though.

  169. Chris   May 29, 2012 at 6:48 am

IT’S A “MOCKUMENTARY” you damn conspiracy theory nuts! The movie even tells you it’s fake at the end of the credits. Although, I do believe the movie was put together well (acting could have been better), just like the alien mockumentary, 4th Encounter. It made me wonder,”what if”. And apparently it’s already done that with all of you crazies.

    • x   May 29, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Some of it has to be fake duh… Reenactments are not real…. thus their reason for saying some of the content is fictional. Jeeze people have a little imagination… just cause you think it is or isn’t real doesnt mean you have to completely go off on everyone that believes the opposite.

  171. Ashley   May 29, 2012 at 6:07 am

I myself am watching this for a 3rd time, I find alot of it very mind boggling, & interesting. Aside from the video they showed at the beach (which was far fetched) I think there are very probable reasons the government would hide a discovery like this, not just expeRimentation, but also because society would make a sport of hunting this creature just like everything else rare & exotic, & there is also the fact the govt hides the majority of things they discover for reasons we may never know. if they are out there, if mermaids exist, the best way to help them would be to keep society away. Overall, back to our reality, if there is something so precious, if not, the fact that naval testing has harmed so many creatures is just wrong. Humanity is cruel. There is no way to help those creatures unless you can control people, & good luck with changing society.

    • melissa:)   May 29, 2012 at 9:10 am

You are right. For some reason, humans have to have something that no one else has. Why are we so damn spoiled? We seem to think that every other creature that is not like us belongs to us. Mermaids are not like dogs, or cats, or fish. They are like us. Let them live their own lives like we do!!! Mermaids are actually pretty smart, probably smarter than us. They know to stay the “F” away from us!!!

  172. Marion   May 29, 2012 at 5:35 am

The “Navy man” made a statement that sounded like the incident happened with beached creature, even if the video was fake. Some see the actor names and claim it is all faked, but I think the names were real and they were re-en-actors. Does anyone know about the 16th Century drawings or the cave drawings?

    • Ariel   May 29, 2012 at 6:36 am

The scientists in this show do not exist. They are actors. Dont believe me, Google thier names. Paul Robertson and Rebecca Davis are fake names NOAA even has a staff listing that has all personells contact information. The department they claim to work for doesn’t exist either. I found headshots of the actors in less than 10 min on google. As much as I wish there were mermaids I cant ignore the facts. The only truth to this “documentary” is the whale beachings and the bloop recordings. I wouldn’t be suprised if Naval secret testing had a hand in the beachings. As for the bloop recordings they are probably dolphins. Dolphins have very large brains with highly devoloped languge areas like humans.

      • simon   May 29, 2012 at 3:49 pm

in case you forgot they left NOAA so that list of personel info wou not have them on it anymore and they arent fake names if you didnt get results from your search then ou have a horrible search ngine. and ven if they were portrayed by actors it doesnt discredit their research at all. oh and those headshots are of the actors that portrayed them in the re-enactments. andre weideman candice d’arcy and sean cameron michael.

  173. THall   May 29, 2012 at 4:07 am

I watched the show. There were tell-tale signs that all, or at least most of the footage was fake, and the blocked websites all have this pretty graphic with a claim that the sites have been seized by the government. If the government (or those nasty Christians) were trying to sweep this “reality” under the rug, they would not put up a graphic that incriminates them so obviously. They would simply shut down the URL and you’d see the generic error message from your browser. The crying shame is, this probable hoax muddies the waters on the controversial subject of whale beachings, which do look to be caused by the activities of man. The recordings of the artificial and very loud sounds that precede these beachings are real, and are well distributed throughout the world and the scientific community. I’m not an animal rights activist, but the idea that the wholesale slaughter of so many whales and dolphins (and, hell, maybe cousins of man) is happening because someone is experimenting whith high powered sound waves, and they don’t consider these animals important enough to stop makes me furious, should make everyone furious, and has to be stopped somehow.

    • bj   May 29, 2012 at 1:20 pm

first christians arnt nasty government playing brother maybe and if you job you will find unicorns so get your facts straight ok

      • THall   May 29, 2012 at 3:11 pm

I’m sorry, you misunderstand. I don’t think Christians are nasty. I was just being ironic, since many of the posts were claiming that Christians were hiding the truth because they “don’t want proof of evolution getting out.” That is pretty funny… As if Christians had that kind of power. Besides, many Christians believe in evolution to some degree. The idea that Christians are all the same – now that is a hoax! maybe we can ask the unicorns about the mermaids. I’m sure they know the answer.

  174. CK   May 29, 2012 at 3:44 am

Do I believe in aliens? Absolutely not. Extra terrestrial life visiting earth poses one immovable problem which is travel time. However, with the exception of space, the ocean is the least understood and explored. The videos looked highly skeptical, video quality on phones back then were not that fluid. But I do believe they could very possibly exist along with all of the other ancient species we have yet to discover from the ocean.

    • Jerrod   May 29, 2012 at 7:35 am

How can you and others be that dumb to think we are the only living beings out there. There is us the human on this one planet, and how many planets in this galaxy? And how many galaxies? And after answering that you can still say we are the only ones out there, now that is just plain stupid thinking….

  175. Dl   May 29, 2012 at 3:13 am

This is one of the stupidest “documentaries” I have ever and I do mean EVER seen. I have seen better acting at my son’s second grade pumpkin play. I am embarrassed for anyone that believes that piss-poor excuse of a cell phone video. Here -let me show you a nice bridge you may be interested in… Unbelievable. Two hours of my life I will never get back. I’m pretty sad about that.

  176. ANONYMOUS   May 29, 2012 at 3:09 am

  177. s12   May 29, 2012 at 2:47 am

the way i look at it yes their evaluation but i do believe with my hole hart that their is a God and if their is something else out their we should just let it be because most people are scared of what they don’t understand

  178. mark   May 29, 2012 at 2:34 am

I watched it,, somthin’ fishy.. mermaids?? and the kid withthe phone camera>?? more fishy.. ratings ratings ratings.. maybe ufo’s are involved too…

    • bryan   May 29, 2012 at 3:01 am

doesnt make sense they have evidence of the mermaids no ufo just listen to the experts

      • David   May 29, 2012 at 5:13 pm

Let me say this, I don’t know if there are Mermaids. But it would not surprise me. There are new species of animals found everyday. And there are parts of the ocean that we know nothing about. Just like I do not know if UFO’s are real. But if you think that out of billions of planets out there that we are alone, then you and all the other people that think this way, need to pull your heads out of the ground. Just because there is no proof, doesn’t mean that they are not there. Especially given the fact that humans, as a species, tend to destroy everything in sight.

  179. Sam   May 29, 2012 at 1:59 am

The best ways to help found out how creadable the scientist are what other scientist think of them. Then look at scientific work on the aquatic ape theory. Look to see if the case they made holds up under scientific criticism they maybe make a real call.

  180. Thomas Henry   May 29, 2012 at 1:54 am

The one thing that made me suspicious was the boy didn’t seem to scream or react instantly when the “mermaid” jumped towards him. I would have crapped my pants.

    • The Riddler   May 29, 2012 at 3:10 am

He was sacred stiff. Or more like frozen with fear. It happens when your mind sees something it can’t understand instantly and goes into a “loading stage” in which you almost freeze with confusion and fear.

  181. Ruben   May 29, 2012 at 1:54 am

I may have evidence I found 4 years ago but don’t know who to show now im certain of what it is after seeing same thing in show halve hand and piece of scull

    • Jerry   May 29, 2012 at 3:31 am

Ruben you’ve just confessed to being a serial killer that keeps trophies of their kills…!!!

  182. What really   May 29, 2012 at 1:35 am

Hen I look this up the next morning after watching this show. I went to animal planet to see the footage again. Did any notice the website. Believeinmermaids.com . It was blocked, yeah like it was limewire.com or something.

    • bryan   May 29, 2012 at 3:04 am

the government knows whats going on but there scared to show it god damnit we have to do something the navy is going to kill them all

  183. Lowell Weicker   May 29, 2012 at 1:19 am

The only motive I could think of for the government to hide their existence is religion! The common traits between man and the mermaids would suggest evolution and it would further the claim that we are a product of our environment as opposed to creating it, as the Christian religion teaches us!
There are more than a few Conservative Christians in high places of the government! Our politics and government have been dominated one way or another by the Christian Right for the last thirty years. Reaganomics wasn’t the only thing we got out pof that era!

    • irishgard   May 29, 2012 at 9:06 pm

      Ooook…. Lowel is crazy!!!

  184. meg   May 29, 2012 at 1:06 am

All i wanna know is when will they find the jamaican speaking crabs?

  185. SHADOW   May 29, 2012 at 12:48 am

Not to mention, word spreads fast among scientists, too many to kill quietly. too many to bribe.

  186. SHADOW   May 29, 2012 at 12:47 am

be honest, there are thousands of people who want a president dead, he or she dies, they say terrorists. A scientist dies and no one knows why that scientist would have an enemy. They don’t like taking chances with anything.

  187. Hilary Bergman   May 29, 2012 at 12:45 am

If the CIA can have JFK killed they would have no problem with this. Let’s not be naive

  188. SHADOW   May 29, 2012 at 12:42 am

now on a more serious not. I believe our friend just hit upon something interesting. Two scientists framed for a bizzare crime would be a good means of shutting them up were it not for the little known fact that every scientist is friends with at least two other scientists and this is one thing you can’t get around. They would be missed and people would investigate.

  189. Hilary Bergman   May 29, 2012 at 12:40 am

That’s so true. I’m surprised the CIA hasn’t tried to frame those scientists for a crime and then throw them in jail. It happens all the time

  190. SHADOW   May 29, 2012 at 12:35 am

Thank you someone who understands studying an organism does not need to entail dissection. I agree that like many things it should be a secret like the other dark, untouchable secrets found by humans.

  191. Amy   May 29, 2012 at 12:33 am

Just like anything else discovered by man this would be exploited and hunted as well. Not saying it is true but if it is, like Nessie, aliens, etc it needs to remain hidden. We are a destructive race. Look how many animal species are already extinct.

  192. SHADOW   May 29, 2012 at 12:32 am

Also, scientists think logically all the time. This move has nothing but drive and conviction and belief behind it. Also, Roswell, I love that topic and feel that you should know that there were two species of aliens discovered.

  193. SHADOW   May 29, 2012 at 12:30 am

I agree with that much, who would sacrifice that much unless they were driven to do this by an unbelievably strong passion. I would think this much of an assumption to be correct.

  194. Hilary Bergman   May 29, 2012 at 12:27 am

WAKE UP PEOPLE! The government has been hiding stuff like this since they found aliens at area 51. Dr. Paul Robertson is a world renowned scientist and would not jeopardize his career for a hoax. This is real

    • yari ny   May 29, 2012 at 1:30 am

There a saying I got to see it to belived it and the true will come out one day ppl said crazy shit for money

  195. Jason   May 29, 2012 at 12:23 am

I don’t know if mermaids are real or not… But why all the secrecy? I’ve been trying to research this online and these sites have all been taken down. Click the links and see for yourself.

    • Mystyic   May 29, 2012 at 12:52 pm

Your right. This is sure proof the gov. is covering something BIG up. Like they did the Bigfoot that was found several years ago,and the Roswell crash. It really pisses me off. They do not have the right to lie so boldly to the public. Like we are all blundering idiots. Who knows what’s out there, that they have hid from us. This only makes the mermaids more credible. Our evolution more believable.

      • slithra   May 30, 2012 at 1:51 am

and actually, if you read the constitution, all this takeing down sites and hiding info is against our rights as us citizens, we have a right to know

  196. SHADOW   May 29, 2012 at 12:23 am

I have seen the reports, the spears, the evidence that does add up. This is a real phenomenon and as odd as it sounds there is only one explanation and that will inevitably relate at least somewhat to the mermaid theory.

  197. SHADOW   May 29, 2012 at 12:19 am

there are plenty of things hat don’s add up but the fact that no evidence of the physical varriety does because what is the fastest way to discredit a theory… get rid of the evidence to create the same kind of thinking that you..I seriously mean no offense to you because you raise a valid point…are exhibiting. I know it is what I would do. They can tell information but without the physical evidence it seems impossible.

    • David estrada   May 29, 2012 at 6:51 pm

A great example Shadow is the Eygpten government has stored away items that could prove man kind is older then recorded, that eygptiens werent the ones who built the Prymids, but they refuse to let researchs study them. I’m not saying that south Africa wants to hide the truth, but I believe that the US CIA and Military got involved and had the evidance destroyed in order to cover up the dangers of their Sonar testing. Question yourself? What would or will these people gain by presenting a fake to the world? what did they gain? Why did NOAA fire they all at the same time? They gain nothing but allow you and I to know what is going on, for you and I to voice our opinion to or Governments and put and end to the death of hundreds of marine life

  198. deadman   May 28, 2012 at 11:59 pm

im watching the show for the third time as i write this, and ultimately i would say a good deal of this is real, but just as much of it is fake. if something like this was real, it would be in the news, papers, everwhere. the government couldnt hide this kind of thing. it would not just be put on animal planet.

    • Silvergunsuperman   May 29, 2012 at 10:23 am

You really have NO idea how the real world works ,DO YOU?The Lame Stream Media is Owned by the very same people that would not want this getting out.

    • David estrada   May 29, 2012 at 6:42 pm

Deadman: the world is a place where those who are in charge make the rules and those who arent are just sheep for the slaghter… Our (the US) government has spent billions on this Sonar system in the last 15 years, NOAA was able to halt the testing the California waters in early 2003 because of the stir is was causing to ocean fish. They want this sonar in use and active on our ships no matter the cost, money, human life or hidding the truth of the damage it causes to animals. This show was scheduled to re air on Monday night, but some how its been canceled… go figure some one in the higher command didnt like what they saw..

  199. SHADOW   May 28, 2012 at 11:48 pm

aside from all that you have one thing like the fact that people are as described and that says something. you want to say it’s fake… get off your ass and find evidence that shows it’s fake, if you can’t even do that that you have no right to say weather or not it was fake.

    • rose   May 29, 2012 at 12:24 am

hey i so agree, already found info to prove their hiding something, but most of the sites are blocked or the goverment wont let you in

  200. SHADOW   May 28, 2012 at 11:46 pm

this wasn’t fake you foll… take away everything that wasn’t shown directly the footage, the parts, the barb; you have historic accounts of speared fish that you can’t refute as well as this simple fact why would a fishing crew throw a net back when it was full of fish? that was real and if you are too stupid to understand that than you clearly do not know how to process information.

  201. Rebecca Simon   May 28, 2012 at 11:43 pm

It was a mockumentary. That phone video was so ridiculous and faked. I was offended that they would put out that kind of junk. It would be nice to believe in mermaids…but show me something real.

    • meg   May 29, 2012 at 1:04 am

Youre absolutely right. I would have liked to believe this until i saw that “””footage””””

    • David estrada   May 29, 2012 at 6:35 pm

Amazing how you could detremine the video was a fake from watching the show! Are you an expert in video graphics that you were able to analized the footage and determine which sections were faked? if you chose not to believe, thats fine, thats your choice, but to claim something is fake with out any real hard examination of the footage yourself in real life, then dont make claims of stuff you cant yourself prove to be a fact…..

      • Tyler Picha   July 16, 2012 at 3:06 am

I was intrigued and skeptical also. But I slowed down the video of the kid on the beach and it was very staged. The best angle to film is with the monster’s left hand reaching for the boy, as the creature reaches for him, the boy does not scream and you do not see the whites of his eyes showing fear (micro expressions) . I don’t know about you, but when I am startled, I jump and react with my hands. Just watch a couple of episodes of “America’s Funniest Home Videos”. Also, with a cellphone in hand, I would probably drop it and certainly not run with it pointing at my feet, you would see the motion of my hands in full stride as I ran as fast as I could. The only way I could film my feet in retreat is if I had a camera strapped around my neck. Plus, there was no cursing, or cautionary comments, or joking. Although the documentary type fiction was very good, it can easily be picked apart.

  202. Cc   May 28, 2012 at 11:24 pm

Good recap but it was a mockumentary…

  203. Meguro2006   May 28, 2012 at 11:11 pm

    What about Mermen?

  204. dustton   May 28, 2012 at 11:08 pm

I have seen and saw thousands of strange things in the ocean. I do believe in mermaids. But, like Nessie and Footie, we need to leave them alone!

    • yari ny   May 29, 2012 at 1:24 am

It’s about time someone spoke out. Many human tend to keep a lot of thing in secrets hopefully nothing bad happened to these creatures. I always belived they were true it was just a matter of time.

  205. holly   May 28, 2012 at 11:02 pm

    how do i help??!

  206. mike prada   May 28, 2012 at 10:54 pm

how do i find out more information?

    • omega   May 28, 2012 at 11:12 pm

theres not much out there… sensitive materials. this could prove evolution
