Hooper captures the essence of the stage play

The trailer for Director Tom Hooper’s big screen adaptation of the stage play “Les Miserables” has debuted. To say that Chairman Adam Fogelson of Universal Pictures is delighted would be an understatement. Ecstatic is more like it. Early reviews suggest this star-studded, large-scale musical film will be a big hit with moviegoers. That should please Universal executives concerned about the bottom line.
Hooper certainly captured the emotion this period piece is known for. He artfully incarnated the seediness and grunge of 19th-century France. He maintained the elements that made Victor Hugo’s masterpiece a hit on Broadway and stages way beyond.
The film stars some of Hollywood’s most stellar actors; Russell Crowe, Sacha Baron Cohen, Hugh Jackman, Helena Bonham Carter, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, and Samantha Barks. Anne Hathaway, who portrays Fantine, provides an amazing rendition of the show’s most intense song “I Dreamed a Dream,” which is featured in the trailer.
This is a must-see for all who love emotion-filled movies.
