Katy Perry Burned By Text

The ever lovely songbird that is Katy Perry has been telling the world about her very short marriage to English comic and actor Russell Brand. Katy has revealed that she got “burned” by Brand via a text message! Apparently the 38 year-old Brand took “breaking-up” lessons from British singer Phil Collins, who dumped his Mrs years ago the same way, via a text message.

The 28-year-old pop star decided to open up about her relationship with the “former” womaniser that world knows as Russell Brand, in the July issue of Vogue. She also talks about her relationship with musician John Mayer and about how painful her breakups are.

She also reveals that she hasn’t heard from Brand for some time now. Katy, who is now Smurfette in the Smurfs sequel talked about how she thought that the 38 year-old comic was “a magical man” when she first met him at the MTV Movie Awards in 2009.

Brand very publicly flirted with the beautiful Katy and they got married the next year (2010 in case your math is a bit rusty) and a short year and two months later, they divorced under that good old “catch-all” irreconcilable differences.

They divorced, quite amicably, in 2012.

Of her ex-husband, Perry says, “He’s a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him. Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011.”

She admits that she thought he was brilliantly funny and it was a kind of humour that allowed his fans to forgive a lot. But the funny side of Russell Brand soon wore off for Katy.

Perry said that he was, “Hysterical in some ways. Until he started making jokes about me and he didn’t know I was in the audience, because I had come to surprise him at one of his shows. So. Hysterical to a point. I mean, I have to claim my own responsibility in things. I do admit that I was on the road a lot.

Although I invited him time and time again, and I tried to come home as much as I possibly could. You saw that in the movie,” she said. The movie that Katy is referring to is the documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me. She went on to say, “That wasn’t edited to leave footage out — there wasn’t any footage of him.”

The pop star continued, “At first when I met him, he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they’re like, I can’t handle the equalness. He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting.

“I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day. I let go and I was like: This isn’t because of me; this is beyond me. So I have moved on from that,” she added.

The next “serious” fella in Katy’s life was fellow singer John Mayer. Somewhat amazingly, Perry says that he wasn’t a rebound relationship. What is even more amazing is how Katy could decide to get into another relationship after getting burned by Brand and by text message to boot! But this star has got guts and she went for it and, as she said, it wasn’t a “rebound.”

“No, not at all. No, I was madly in love with him. I still am madly in love with him,” she said, “All I can say about that relationship is that he’s got a beautiful mind … Beautiful mind, tortured soul. I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken bird.,” she said.

Katy Perry opens up to Vogue journalist Vicki Woods, who is happy to relate that the 28 year-old songstress can “can drive like James Bond” in her rented Maserati and that she had no problem keeping up with Brand “because of the quick-fire slapstick/deadpan, adult/childish wisecracking and point-scoring.” Those are Woods’ words, not ours, but as a wise man once said, “Damn it, we believe her!

Perry let the journalist hear her latest song which, appropriately enough, is about “broken birds” and another tune that is a raw recording of an experimental track she’s calling “Bad Photographs.” Again, appropriately enough, both of the songs are about breakups. The first song is about Mayer and the second, apparently is about Brand.

Katy said, “I titled it ‘Bad Photographs’ because the idea is that when people are in a relationship they only take photographs when they are happy, and sometimes when it ends you realize maybe it would be important to take photographs when it’s not happy.”

“So I have this idea,” she said, then played the lyrics: “Looking back we should have taken photographs … of all the unhappiness … coz now my mind’s playing tricks on me … I forget we are not meant to be.”

According to her, the childhood she endured wasn’t a great deal of fun. Her family constantly moved and she wound up not going to school as much as she should and her parents beat her, hearing all that, it’s amazing that she has such a good sense of humour.

If you don’t think she has a good sense of humour, look at her wardrobe. Described by many as “zany” Perry has a taste for the wild and wonderful. If you look at the picture spread that she did for the July issue of Vogue, which was photographed by Annie Leibovitz by the way; she’s in some eye popping floral gowns and is boasting a “natural” makeup look.

When you read the interview and see the pictures you’ll wonder how any man in his right mind could upset this beautiful person, who is drawn to broken winged birds of the human variety. It boggles the mind that Russell Brand could “burn” Katy Perry via a text message, but then, it was probably easier than doing it in person; on him that is.
