The 41st American Music Awards are going to be held this coming Sunday, November 24, in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater. This year’s show will be broadcast at 8/7:00 C on ABC, and it will feature some of the hottest musical performers of 2013. The nominees were announced on October 23 by will.i.am. and Kelly Clarkson. The host this year will be Pitbull. Read on to see who was nominated, what musical acts will be performing, and who I predict will be the winners!
Leading all nominees with six are Macklemore & Lewis. This should come as no surprise, as this incredible duo has had lots of success in 2013, with three of their songs charting. They were “Thrift Shop,” featuring Wanz, “Can’t Hold Us” featuring Ray Dalton, and the same-sex marriage anthem, “Same Love.”
Macklemore & Lewis have been nominationed in six categories. The categories are New Artist of the Year, Artist of the Year, one for the new category Single of the Year for “Thrift Shop.” Favorite Pop/Rock Band or Duo, Favorite Rap Album, and Favorite Rap Artist.
With five nominations each Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift are tied in second place for the honor of being nominated for the most awards this year on the American Music Awards show. Florida Georgia Line Robin Thicke and Rihanna have been nominated for four awards each, and Imagine Dragons and Bruno Mars are next, with two nominations apiece.
Before I mention who else has been nominated, the performers for the American Music Awards show this year are going to be some of the best ever! Katy Perry, for instance, will open the show singing “Unconditionally.”
Other musical performers who will take the stage are Lady Gaga (featuring R. Kelly) singing “Do What U Want,” Kelly Clarkson, A Great Big World (featuring Christina Aguilera) performing “Say Something,” Imagine Dragons, Florida Georgia Line, Ariana Grande, Pitbull (featuring Ke$ha) singing “Timber,” Luke Bryan, One Direction, Kendrick Lamar, TLC and TEA, Rihanna, and Jennifer Lopez, who will do a tribute to Celia Cruz. Miley Cyrus will be the closing act of the America Music Awards show.
The presenters of the America Music Awards show are going to include many of the top names in the Entertainment industry, such as Taylor Swift, 2 Chainz, Jaime Alexander, Akon, Kristen Bell, Marc Anthony, Ciara, Michael Bolton, Chris Daughtry, Nathan Fillion, Fall Out Boy, Juan Pablo Galavis, Daisy Fuentes, Jennifer Hudson, David Grohl, Heidi Klum, Joan Jett, Bill Maher, Lady Antebellum, Andrew McCutchen, Kelly Osbourne, Maia Mitchell, Hayden Panettiere, Nicole Richie, Jeremy Renner, Emma Roberts, Naya Rivera, Sarah Silverman, Zoe Saldana, Kevin O’Leary, Alicia Silverstone, Mark Cuban, Daymond John, and The Ceremonies.
The nominees for the American Music Awards Artist of the Year award are Macklemore & Lewis, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift. I’ll give the nod to Justin Timberlake for the award this year.
The nominations for New Artist of the Year Presented by Kohl’s are Florida Georgia Line, Phillip Phillps (American Idol winner), Ariana Grande, Macklemore & Lewis and Imagine Dragons. Vote online to determine who wins this award at the link at the end of this article. Voting has officially closed for the other categories. My choice is Macklemore & Lewis — who do you think will win?
In the category of Single of the Year, three songs have been nominated. They are “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line (featuring Nelly), “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore & Lewis, and “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke. “Thrift Shop” will probably win, but I’ll go with “Blurred Lines” to win this award.
There are three singers nominated in the category of Favorite Male Artist – Pop/Rock. The singers nominated for this award are Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, and Robin Thicke. With two ablums released this year, I’ll pick Justin Timberlake to win this AMA award.
The three talented female performers up for the Favorite Female Artist of the Year are Taylor Swift, Pink, and Rihanna. This is another of the major awards of the night — who do you think will win this award? I like them all, but I will say that Taylor Swift will take this award.
In the category of Favorite Band, Duo, or Group – Pop/Rock are three of the past year’s hugest acts — One Direction, Imagine Dragons, and Macklemore & Lewis. One Direction will likely win, but I will go with Macklemore & Lewis to win — I might get this prediction wrong, though.
There are three albums up this year on the America Music Awards for Favorite Album – Pop/Rock. They are “Red” by Taylor Swift, “The 20/20 Experience” by Justin Timberlake, and “Take Me Home” by One Direction. I will play the favorite here, and pick One Direction’s album to win.
Moving on to the category of Favorite Male Artist – Country, there are three male singers up for this award on Sunday. They are Hunter Hayes, Blake Shelton, and Luke Bryan. My prediction is that Blake Shelton will take this award.
In the category of Favorite Female Artist – Country, the three females nominated are Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, and Taylor Swift. Any of these talented women could win — at the CMA award show, Miranda Lambert won. I will say that Carrie Underwood will take this award.
Then, in the category of Favorite Band, Duo or Group – Country, the three acts nominated are Lady Antebellum, The Band Perry, and Florida Georgia Line. They’re all great groups, but I will say that Florida Georgia Line will be the winners of this award.
Favorite Album – Country has three albums nominate this year on the American Music Awards show. They are “Crash My Party” by Luke Bryan, “Red” by Taylor Swift, and “Here’s To The Good Times,” by Florida Georgia Line. “Red” will win this category, or — won’t; but, that’s the album I’m choosing.
In the category of Favorite Artist – Rap/Hip-Hop, there are three who have been nominated. They are Lil Wayne, Jay Z, and Macklemore & Lewis. I will say that Macklemore & Lewis will win.
What album will win the award for Favorite Album – Rap/Hip-Hop? The three that have been nominated are “Magna Carta-Holy Grail” by Jay Z, “good kid, m.A.A.d city” by Kendrick Lamar, and “The Heist” by Macklemore & Lewis. Probably the last of these will win, but I will go out on (not much of) a limb and say that Kendrick Lamar’s album “good kid, m.A.A.d city” will win.
Up for the American Music Awards show award for Favorite Male Artist – Soul/R&B are Robin Thicke, Justin Timberlake, and Miguel. They’re all fantastic artists — I will say that Miguel will be the winner.
There are also three people nominated in the category of Favorite Female Artist – Soul/R&B. They are Alicia Keys, Rihanna, and Ciara. All of these women are also extremely talented singers — I will say that Rihanna will take this award.
That brings us to the category of Favorite Album – Soul/R&B. The three albums up for this award are “The 20/20 Experience” by Justin Timberlake, “Unapologetic” by Rihanna, and “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke. I’ll say that the winner will be “The 20/20 Experience” by Justin Timberlake.
In the category of Favorite Artist – Alternative Rock, the three nominees are Mumford & Sons, Imagine Dragons, and The Lumineers. I like Imagine Dragons a lot — they might win — but, I’ll go with Mumford & Sons.
Who will get the AMA award for Favorite Artist – Adult Contemporary? There are three artists up for the award — Pink, Bruno Mars, and Maroon 5. My pick in this category is Maroon 5.
In the category of Favorite Artist – Latin, the three nominated are Romeo Santos, Prince Royce, and Marc Anthony. I will say that Marc Anthony will win this award.
Then, there’s the category Favorite Artist – Contemporary Inspirational. Will tobyMac win, or will Matthew West or Chris Tomlin? My choice is Chris Tomlin.
A category I am really beginning to get into more is up next — Favorite Artist – Electronic Dance Music (EDM). Up for this award are Daft Punk, Avicii, Zedd, and Calvin Harris. I like them all, but I will say that Avicii will win.
The last category is Top Soundtrack. The three albums up for this award are “Pitch Perfect,” “Les Miserables,” and “The Great Gatsby: Music from Baz Lurhmann’s Film.” I will say the soundtrack for “Les Miserables” will win.
