Latina telenovella star Karla Alvarez has been found dead according to reports from Mexican journalist Gustavo Adolfo Infante. Infante also reports that Alvarez died of respiratory failure

Alvarez, 41 appeared in Spanish-language program Que Bonito Amor this year and was known for playing villains. There were rumors that Alvarez was battling alcohol and eating disorder issues.

Alvarez gained recognition for her role in Maria Mercedes, according to Latin Times. She also appeared in Buscando El Paraiso (Searching for Paradise), Acapulco,and Cuerpo Y Alma (Body and Soul). She had a starring role on Mi Querida Isabel in 1997 as well as La Mentira (The Lie),  La Intrusa (The Intruder), Alma Rubelde (Rebellious Soul) and others.

She was once married to Mexican actor Alexi Ayala. Alvares, born in Mexico City also appeared on the reality television hit Big Brother VIP in 2003.

Carlos de la Mota tweeted, “Surprised and saddened by the death of (Alvarez).” Comic Adrian Uribe wrote, “Surprised with the death (of Alvarez), may she rest in peace.”

Alvarez spent 20 years in theater and television. She graduated from the National School of Dance and the CEA of Televisa and was found in her apartment on Nov 15. Although she spent a great deal of her career playing “the bad guy” Alvarez was loved by Latino audiences across North America. Online comments and tweets continue to pour forth as news of Alvarez’s passing spread and was confirmed.

There were other rumors that Alvarez was being forced off her current program due to her addictions. Many of her characters were young, disillusioned or rebellious creations that seemed to reflect the inner turmoil of Alvarez’s personal life. Her marriage to Ayala ended in divorce a few years ago and she had not been in a serious relationship since.

Alvarez was nominated for Best Young Actress in 1995 for Prisonera de Amor (Prisoner of Love). She was nominated in 1998 for Best Female Newcomer (Mi Querida Isabel– My Dear Isabel), 1999 as Best Villain (La Mentira-The Lie) and in 2007 as Best Supporting Actress for her role in Herida de Amor (Wounds of Love).

There is no information on what may have caused the possible respiratory failure and no information on funeral arrangements at this time. Alvarez, 41, has been found dead in her Mexico City apartment. Fans and fellow actors are shocked and saddened by her passing, and await answers as to why this beloved actress is no longer with us.
