Columbus Short Is Fired After a Scandal of His Own

Scandal star Columbus Short is dealing with a scandalous problem of his own that even “Olivia Pope” can’t fix. The actor has officially announced on Friday that his time with the ABC political drama has come to an end. Short has been confirmed fired from the series following recent personal and domestic legal matters that have made headlines and could prove detrimental to the successful ABC series.

The 31-year-old actor known for his role as the dutiful “Harrison Wright” on the popular Thursday night drama has been involved in an alleged domestic violence incident brought to the courts by his wife, Tanne Short. His estranged wife has filed papers seeking a restraining order against her husband. The couple have been married since 2005. In court documents, Tanne Short alleges that her husband put a knife to her throat with threats of killing her. A temporary restraining order has been grated by the courts pending a court hearing set for May 6.  Tanne Short has subsequently filed for divorce seeking irreconcilable differences.

This is not the only run in with the law for the troubled actor, having been in jail at least three times in the past three months. Columbus Short made headlines earlier this month following a physical altercation at a Los Angeles bar where according to reports, the victim in this case sustained injuries to his face at the hand of Short. While Short did turn himself into authorities following a warrant for his arrest, charges in this incident have not been filed.

Scandal has been a bona-fide hit for ABC growing exponentially in popularity thanks to the power of Twitter. Fans of the show live tweet during the 10 p.m broadcasts on Thursday nights with real-time commentary on the series characters and plot twists. The season three finale of Scandal which aired on April 17 left his character “Harrison” in a cliffhanger that will make it easy for series creator Shonda Rhimes to remove the character from the series or possibly have it recast. This is not the first time an actor from a Shonda Rhimes series has been handed a pink slip. Back in 2006, Grey’s Anatomy star, actor Isaiah Washington, was fired following hurling an anti-gay slur and a co-star.

Starting out in the entertainment industry as a back up dancer for artists like Britney Spears, Columbus Short reinvented himself as an actor in his own right and has been acting for some time appearing in films like Cadillac Records, Save the Last Dance 2 and Stomp the Yard.  Scandal is the actor’s highest profile project yet, having been a part of the acting ensemble since the series debuted back in 2012.

The actor has not made any of his own specific comments regarding the allegations brought by his wife, simply stating through his publicist that he will have his side of the story heard in a court of law. On the topic of his being fired from Scandal, Columbus Short acknowledges his time on the popular ABC show with praises to his talented co-stars and best wishes to show creator Shonda Rhimes and series leading lady, Kerry Washington.
