Dinosaur at Creation Museum Does Not Prove Great Flood Theory

DinosaurA very well preserved cluster of dinosaur bones belonging to an Allosaurus was found and put on display at the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky. The museum’s president, Ken Ham, is very excited about the museum’s new dinosaur and believes it will help children understand the great flood of biblical times. Ham and his team at the museum believe that the dinosaur, Ebenezer, died from a very rapid burial caused by a great flood which, according to them proves that there was a rapid flood a few thousand years ago in which Noah and his family survived. However, science is largely ignored with respect to Ebenezer. Claiming Ebenezer died in a great flood does nothing to prove the theory and is, in fact, a lie.

Ham hopes to use the dinosaur to illustrate accounts of history according to his preferred religious book, the Bible. He notes that many secular museums utilize dinosaur bones to illustrate evolution and the extensive history of our planet.  Ham wants to tell the story of the Bible utilizing the same medium. Experts at the Creation Museum believe that Ebenezer died in the Great Flood, which took place about 4,500 years ago. According to a geologist whom studies the Bible and its relation to our earth, Ebenezer was in extremely good condition when found, with most of his body still intact, lending to the belief that he was quickly buried in the flash flood.

Science claims that dinosaurs roamed the earth long before man. The first dinosaurs appeared over 200 million years ago and roamed the earth up until about 65 million years ago when there was a mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period. This mass extinction marked the end of dinosaurs as we know them. According to this scientific base, Ebenezer and the rest of the dinosaurs died millions of years prior to when the Creation Museum claims and millions of years before the great flood theory. Because Ebenezer is a dinosaur and not an evolved species still seen today, it is impossible for him to have died as recently as 4,500 years ago.

Science claims that humans have inhabited the earth for longer than the bible claims the earth has existed. Divers in Mexico recently found a human skeleton that is 12,000 years old. The oldest found human like remains are 4.4 million years old. Not only are the oldest remains dated long after dinosaurs went extinct, they are dated longer than the Creation Museum claims the earth has existed. The Creation Museum educates people about humans by claiming that they were created by God, in His image; on the contrary, science claims that humans evolved from the ape lineage, about five million years ago. The human species as we know it now has existed for 100,000 years.

The Creation Museum hopes to show a different side to the story of the dinosaurs. Their version of when they existed, as well as when and how they went extinct, is drastically different from the story that scientists have proven through radiometric dating and the study of remains. Scientists have studied rocks that are over 4 billion years old, concluding that the world is 4.55 billion years old. If the next great genius of the world were to be born into a group of people who believe and tout inaccuracies, the world would lose out on the ability to progress and grow, possibly hindering the ability of humans to survive.

Science is an important, accurate tool. Scientific facts, such as how long the dinosaurs lived and when, should not be taken out of context to appease religion. This mindset is detrimental to progress. While the version of creation the Creation Museum offers may be interesting to Christians, claiming that the dinosaur now on display was killed in the Great Flood is suspect in its reasoning and certainly does not prove that a flood was responsible for the death of any dinosaur.

Science says cavemen had to deal with dinosaurs but you say dinosaurs died way before man was alive. Which way is it? Can’t have it both ways.

I was at a dinosaur park yesterday with my children and I overheard one mother explain to her children that the dinosaurs lived on the earth until the great flood killed them all. I nearly choked when I heard that as it is quite a bizarre explanation.

Then I looked up on Christian views on dinosaurs and I was shocked to find that this belief is prevalent and how much science is attacked as being full of guesses!

I am Christian, but I do not dismiss scientific research that effectively explains a whole lot more about our planet and universe than some guy at a two-bit creation museum.

While the internet is no proxy for gauging the level of intelligence of people, but there are a lot of dumb and ignorant people out there who seem to base their beliefs on only what they can see and what is obvious. The ark story is hilarious – Noah got all the baby dinosaurs (because all the main species where lounging around his backyard which backed on Dead Sea) and put them on his boat but when the flood was over the dinosaurs died because the world was so different after the flood. That was a huge WTF moment for me and sealed the deal on that “theory”.

Citing all of the ancient art (which somehow was drawn 4,000 years ago) which depicts dragons/dinosaurs is their evidence that man played along nicely with the likes of T-Rex (not the band) and the ‘raptor is ridiculous. Ancient man found those bones and depicted them on their walls. They didn’t see them alive but presumed them to exist, hence the myth.

Anyway, I could go on but my head is spinning…

It’s bad enough our politicians believe they can change history to create artificial legacies. Shame on the Creation Museum for feeding mis-information to our children. Great article!

It is a profound relief to find at least one article on this subject published on our site that stands up for science. Thank you for defending reality, Courtney!
