Reiki: A Deeper Understanding

Within the medical field there exists western medicine which a majority of people use today and then there are such things like Reiki which is a form of alternative medicine. Unknown too much of the average populace, alternative health is a common practice just like any other type of medicine. Some find it to be more helpful to them than the regular intake of pills that a licensed doctor may prescribe. Some find that they stay away from the alternative field simply because there is no understanding of it. While it is true that alternative medicine is not for everyone, Reiki has been seen to be quite helpful in hospitals around the U.S. When it comes to the subject of Reiki, many do not know neither what it is nor what it does and often it is seen that before partaking in something different, people need a deeper understanding on the subject.

Reiki is a natural healing technique coming from Japan and was first discovered by a man named Mikao Usui. In Japanese, the words mean ‘Universal Life Energy’ since the word ‘Ki’ is used to mean energy. People may better recognize the word ‘Chi’ when it comes to speaking about the natural flow of energy. Gaining a deeper understanding of Reiki may open up the mind to different possibilities when it comes to health. The basic purpose for this healing technique is to reduce the levels of stress within the body and bleed it from its systems.

The way in which this healing process is administered is by the touching of the practitioner’s hands on another person’s body. This is how the unseen life force of energy is transferred through the Reiki user into the body of the patient. It is believed that if one’s life force is low or somehow affected in any way the body can then fall prey to illness. This works in reverse as well meaning that if the energy within the body is high and flowing properly then there will be no illness in sight, no stress felt, and the mood will become better.

It has been said that Reiki often feels like a warm radiating glow that flows throughout and around the body. It has also been stated that not only does this technique help with illness but targets the emotional spectrum, the mind, as well as the spirit within. Part of the deeper understanding of Reiki includes that fact that one does not have to believe in it for it to work. Another part to understanding what Reiki is in actuality is that it is not a religion. According to the original master of the technique, Mikao Usui, Reiki is spiritual in nature therefore the belief in God, for instance, is required to learn and use it.

A common place where Reiki is not beginning to appear for frequently is in hospitals and clinics around the U.S. With more and more individuals seeming to become more open minded about holistic healing and health, Reiki is amongst the few treatments that is gaining more acceptance within the medical world. It has been seen to even be a cost-effective way to assist with the improvement of patient care. One example of Reiki being used within the common, western medicine is through a doctor by the name of Vega. Vega is a Reiki Master as well as a nurse and uses this healing technique with her regular practice. Because of this she has grown in popularity with the patients through word of mouth. Even much of the hospital staff has taken notice of her.

When it comes to Reiki, a deeper understanding of it may be necessary for some people to open up to it. As more holistic methods of health become accepted the medical field continues to grow. As it continues to grow, perhaps in the future, there shall only be one type of medicine instead of the classifications seen today.

Since, it seems, that it was never corrected in my article, I’ll say it here. The belief in God is NOT required for Reiki to work. Nothing is required for it to work. You don’t even have to believe in it for it to work.

From medical point of view there are some people who consider Reiki as an alternative healing therapy. Some think that Reiki cannot heal at all. However what is interesting here is that nowadays many doctors are taking interest in learning Reiki to bring about a positive change in how they deal with patients.
