Chief Keef Skips Court Hearing for DUI Arrest

Rapper Chief Keef is a wanted man in the state of Illinois after choosing to skip his court hearing regarding his March 2014 arrest for driving under the influence (DUI). The appropriate authorities have already started looking for the 19-year-old, who will be brought to jail upon his capture. The rapper will be released on $50,000 bail.

Keef, whose real name is Keith Cozart, was placed under arrest in March for being under the influence of marijuana while operating a motor vehicle. Keef was cooperative with officers upon the inspection of his vehicle, which reportedly exuded an extremely strong smell of marijuana. He admitted to smoking the substance before he began driving, and did not object to taking a sobriety test. The rapper failed to pass the test and was immediately placed under arrest for driving under the influence, an act he did not attempt to resist. In addition to the DUI charge, he was also booked for driving with a suspended licence as well as given a citation for having no proof of insurance. The DUI arrest came as a shock to many, as the rapper had only just been released from court-ordered rehab for marijuana addiction. The rehab did not appear to stick, however, as he shared a picture of himself smoking the substance on the social media site Instagram a mere three days after his arrest.

This is not Keef’s first altercation with the law. In fact, for only being 19 years of age, the rapper has a remarkably detailed rap sheet in terms of legal conflict. He has racked up a large debt of unpaid child support for his two children, one of which he fathered at 17 with a 15-year-old girl. In November of 2013, Keef’s attorney confirmed rumors that his client was the proven father of another child, born to a different mother than the first. The attorney gave the statement that the rapper admitted the parentage first hand, after being provided with proof that the baby did indeed share his DNA. Although he has paid some amount of money to the mother of the first child, by some accounts he still owes the woman a substantial amount and reportedly has no intentions of paying the rest of his dues. The 29-year-old mother of the second child is reportedly asking for $25,000 in child support back pay.

The Illinois native was also involved in a shooting that occurred in Chicago this March, an incident that left one person in the hospital. Keef was implicated in the crime after he shared a picture on his Instagram that showed him and a friend posing with AK-47’s, with a caption that read “Another situation. Already.” His rehab stint centered around his testing positive on three random drug tests for use of marijuana, this while he was on probation for a speeding arrest. The results of the drug test landed him back in jail, from which he was released upon the promise to attend rehab for his addiction.

It is unclear, as of yet, when Chief Keef will be captured by police and returned to jail. Authorities say they are putting in their best efforts to locate the rapper.
